Ooh, America. Had that greatest hits tape back in the 80s. It's not the manliest music out there LOL, but great melodies.

Fats ranks his favorite America songs (excluding Horse w/ No Name - which would probably rank #3.5 on my list)

1. Tin Man

2. Sand Man

3. Ventura Highway

4. You Can Do Magic (some 80s gold)

5. Sister Golden Hair

@Snidely

Let me know if this works.

Fats Jazz Fusion Mix - 147 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/7d85U6YR913ZrBwrCsLNCG

That is my Spotify Fusion Jazz list. Been working on it for a few weeks. 147 songs so far. Still a long way to go on this one, so much music to cover. I have a serious weak spot for 70s Brazilian influenced fusion (George Duke, Flora Purim etc..)

If that works, here are some others (Yosemite, you might like the Phish and Zappa mixes)

Fats Live Phish Mix - 62 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/6DY6vgblGYgKJ9ioEE4zGB

Fats Studio Phish Mix - 53 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/0U9Ytyp91wGbDIUAG3PKYh

Fats Frank Zappa Mix - 101 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/0Juephuu0uPATVxXfurLLT

Fats Old School Funky R&B Mix - 178 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/5eBWxCgcCTWx1tUmkBFm1g

Fats Classic Rock Mix - 217 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/5WVCKfVM285LI2CSqV5lXC

Fats Ween Mix - 34 songs
https://play.spotify.com/user/fatlever/playlist/62p1MShrCgthW63NfpFfK0

The hip-hop mix is still very much an early work in progress. Just haven't been in the mood lately. I've just been wanting to jam the past 6 months.

Have you seen the Fallon parody of this song that came out during the height of Linsanity?

I couldn't find it on Youtube, but The Daily Beast has it.

I'm a sucker for the 80s. Have my own critically acclaimed playlist of 80s pop rock, Euro Pop, New Wave, etc.

It did work. I've been working my way through the list. Phew that's a lot of music! Fun too. Really enjoyed the Chuck Mangione tracks, and psyched to find albums by George Benson (Good King Bad) and Wayne Shorter (Native Dancer) I hadn't heard before. Also really opened my eyes to Spotify, I've had a Spotify acct but been too lazy to move away from my Itunes library. I listen to a lot of Samba/latin inspired jazz, esp west coast jazz, from the 60s-70s (Cal Tjader, Stan Getz, Wes Montgomery). Went thru a stage where I collected CTI albums some faves including Stanley Turrentine Sugar, Ron Carter All Blues, Jim Hall Concierto, Hubert Laws Morning Star, George Benson Shape of Things to Come, Kenny Burrell God Bless the Child. I'm gonna check out your R&B mix next, looking forward to that. Cheers.

unfortunately not. just ever-growing on my iTunes library (and thus also on my iPod). I might have to try out Spotify some day though.

you have rick and morty to blame for this. it all started with this song "goodbye MOONMEN"...then i found it was Jemaine from flight of the conchords. they got this idea from the song "Bowie's in space" ..then i was like what song does this parody? seems like its like 5 different songs but i settled on "life on Mars"

Cool, I'm glad you are enjoying it so far. Hide and Seek by Mangione is one of my all-time favorite songs. They rip that song to shreds. I went thru a massive George Benson phase when I was in college. I probably have 12 of his albums on CD. World is a Ghetto is probably my favorite song of his. That guitar solo at the end is phenomenal. Like you, I had a bunch of those CTI albums from the 70s. Almost all of them are good. However, I hate the fact that they would add orchestral strings on top of everything they produced to give all their albums that cheesy elevator sound. I read a long time ago that those added effects were solely the doing of CTI. I wish they would remaster all those albums w/out the strings. If you like some of the Latin/Samba stuff, then you are going to LOVE the George Duke stuff.

Let me know if you have any recommendations to add to the fusion mix. There is just so much great stuff out there that I've never heard and will probably never hear in my lifetime unless someone points me in that direction. I tried combing thru some other large Fusion play lists on spotify for ideas.

I might do an 80s play list next. It would be heavily leaning towards 1980-1985. I generally view the late 80s as one of the worst eras of music ever. Everything in that period had that god awful cheesy synth sound with electric drum machines. I have a hard time listening to anything that doesn't have a real drummer. I never got into 80s metal or 80s indie/goth stuff either, which is probably two of the better things during that time period. By 1986 I had discovered classic rock, so there was just no interest in listening to Paula Abdul, Poison, Beastie Boys or REM when I could be digging thru years of Hendrix, the Beatles etc...

At some point I need to do a live Grateful Dead playlist. There's about a billion live Dead albums on there.
