Unless PDX pulls of an epic tank job from here on out we should be right, Dallas has a hard run.
Chances we trade the pick for someone like Thomas Robinson? I would do it in a heartbeat.

I read somewhere not sure if it was this thread that we didn't want to bring 2 rookies to camp next year. (We don't have a second round pick)

I'd throw Ramon Sessions at them if that made them do it. I wasn't high on Robinson for the #2 pick, but for a pick outside the top 12, I'd certainly love that value.
But of course, the Rockets' FO aren't nearly as stupid as the Kings' FO, so they wouldn't do it.

Exactly what I'm getting at, I think it was Whitfield who said so.
Rumour has it that Houston will go for Smith/Jefferson in FA rendering Thomas Robinson glued to the bench (permanently)
If we offer Houston the PDX first for Robinson then I think Morey will view it as a 5m dollar salary dump for a lotto pick or a lotto pick for Patrick Patterson.
For a team like Morey trying to put something meaningful around Harden then 5m capspace plus a lotto pick would probably get the job done.
Lin
Harden
Parsons
J.Smith
Asik
+McCollom/Plumlee/Olynyk etc.

Morey did an Ainge (pre-KG) and is collecting assets to turn into something he actually wants, if Bennett goes number 5 in this draft and around the deadline the team who drafted him's GM called us and said they want Taylor+McBob for him would you say no? Knowing he wouldn't fit us longterm?

I hope then we get on the telephone and try to trade Biz to the Suns for 30thand 34th picks and pick Lorenzo Brown 6'4" PG and Ryan Kelly 6'11" PF/Center. This allows us future time to develop both players. Both are sleepers in this draft.

Re: The Portland Pick Watch Thread
everyone keeps saying 2014 is a better draft. that may be true for the top 5 picks, but if we get the portland pick next year (which is a HUGE if) it will probably be in 13-18 range. is the 2014 draft as deep in that range as the draft this year?

Re: The Portland Pick Watch Thread
I think it very well could be, fats. We still don't know how many of those guys like Goodwin will stay in school due to lackluster performances this year. Then you have guys like Rodney Purvis that could blow up, and there are other under the radar players like Isaiah Hicks* coming to school next year.

Re: The Portland Pick Watch Thread
Obviously the 2013 draft carries more certainty because this crop of players is closer to the NBA. So I think the better question to ask is this: Is there a player potentially available at 13 that is worthy of buy-now status?
I think you could make a case for multiple buy-now candidates. And with that added certainty, why try to project a distant group out another year or assume we will be drafting from the same position?

Re: The Portland Pick Watch Thread
Just to weigh in with some ramblings.
I honestly think Cho doesn't want to bring two rookies into camp as he stated, maybe that means he wants the Portland pick next draft or maybe that means he will trade it.
We are a funny lot us Bobcat fans, we have stated numerous times that we cannot sit through another trainwreck of a season and that our franchise cannot sustain as we are currently, and yet, we don't want the draft pick this year? This would really help.
We could take a player who can contribute and who we need or we could trade it for a prospect who has at least had one NBA training camp and season.
I would do the PDX pick at 13 for Thomas Robinson, I honestly think Houston would do this deal and Robinson plays a position we need plus has a great rebound rate which we reallly, really, really need.
If not Robinson then Olynyk and Plumlee would help us both next season and longterm.
No matter how weak the draft is perceived to be, we shouldn't turn down a lottery pick (if offered) or be disappointed if we get it through the lottery.
I honestly don't think this draft is weak at all (I'm no expert) and if we want to make a trade for a difference maker type player/prospect then we will have to trade some combination of Kemba/MKG/Biyombo or our current pick or Detroit pick, the pick from Portland offers us some form of flexibility.
This offseason may be the most important and intriguing in our history.

I am beginning to agree. Next year we will want to tank for Wiggins, and we will be horrible enough to do so. Year after that with another young team there will be another star college player that we will want to tank for. We have gotten so use to losing that its something that we expect.

I think this is what Cho means by the OKC model, tank like crazy for at most 3 seasons and then consolidate your assets.
We have in tank mode for 2.5 seasons after this, we need to show not just the fans but players that we are committed to winning short term.
Kemba(Sessions)/McLemore(Hendo)/Gilchrist(Taylor)/McRoberts(Robinson)/Biyombo(Haywood)
That team for both now and the future with amazing upside, also the pieces fit.

Re: The Portland Pick Watch Thread
I seriously don't think we can add anybody with the Portland pick that will be definitively good. Best case scenario is getting a Goodwin, Poythress, Cauley-Stein, Adams, MCW type of underachieving freshman but long on potential that figures it out and makes strides as a pro. The Olynyks and Plumlees of the world aren't locks to contribute IMO.

Don't forget that Cho mentioned spending big on a free agent this off-season. I know it's no guarantee, but take this roster, plus an experienced player for solid minutes and mentoring, and I'd be happy.
P.S. First post. I've creeped on these forums long enough, so I decided to chime in. Nice to have somewhere to discuss Bobcats basketball since no one in Clemson seems to care too much about the NBA, let alone the Bobcats.

It had less to do with "tanking" or "consolidating assets" and a whole lot more to do with having three very solid drafts - which as most of us know, is a total crap shot.

Re: The Portland Pick Watch Thread
Which is why I think Cho will trade it for a more well known commodity.
Thomas Robinson is a rookie top 5 pick who had the misfortune of being drafted to the Maloofs and somehow despite being decent in limited minutes got traded for a bag of spuds.
He has his limitations in terms of a post game and does think he is a SF sometimes but he rebounds well and does have an insane motor, I think his inflated ego will be bumped down a notch if he gets traded again which would be a good thing.

Welcome to the boards.
I think that may be a smokescreen, we're semi-tanking for Wiggins next year, we will rent the capspace I believe.
I agree our core plus some seasoned players would be good.
