If I understand the new cba correctly there should be some strife on young teams where everyone is competing to be the designated player, right?
Say the thunder a few years ago.. Wouldn't Durant and Westbrook have been competing to become the designated player? And if Westbrook feels they are gonna give it to Durant what is to stop him from forcing a trade to Orlando where they'd be thrilled to offer him the $ that OKC can't?
In this regard it might be good for the league in that it breaks up stars and sorta discourages multiple tank years.
Like Philly has an issue on their hands already between Simmons and embiid if embiid stays healthy.
A team like new York would have strife too though. Say Melo or rose was a little younger and less injury prone and coming up as a free agent and we're eligible for the designated tag. They'd want the money. But obviously the Knicks would want to save the money for Porzingis. This is gonna cause a ruckus. Particularly if the young guy is still in the Ingram unproven stage.
I like all the chaos and trade rumors this will cause.
Teams like the Spurs who focus on character are going to rule the new CBA
