Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Monk was the best selection for us but I am not so sold that he will be a star. He is undersized and does not create that well of a shot but he does show promise by his ability to get out well on the fastbreak. I am super happy we selected him tho. I think we can finish top 4 in the East next year.

These are who I want with our picks in order
THEM - Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen

Good read, thanks. The more I read and see on the videos the more I love this pick. This dude has a lot of funk and flair to his game. Probably the most for a Hornet since LJ. We may have scored a future star here, fellas.
What a great week - replacing Plumlee and Belli with Howard and Monk, wow. This should be a fun year in the Hive and our future is looking a lot brighter now.
Go Hornets!!!

OK - the important stuff:
Will Dell be able to guide Monk to the choice huntin' and muddin' spots?
How will the Kemba/Monk duo be branded?
King Konk? Memba's Only?

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
As much as I want to see him develop his PG skills to where he can effectively play both guard spots, I really want to see him grow defensively.
As thirsty as this team has been for guys that can get buckets, they've been just as desperate for two-way players. Maybe becoming a "two-way player" is expecting too much from Monk who's main strengths are on offense and given his lack of size, but I'd like to see him not become purely a one-way player. I mean, there will be a lot of times, especially at the end of games, where he'll be playing next to Kemba to generate offense... and we saw how garbage the defense became when Marco checked in. Not that he needs to become a defensive ace, just maybe slightly above-average in reasonable matchups. Am I expecting too much out of him?

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
I'm not advocating for a crappy defensive player, but I feel like we always draft players with high defensive skills, and an offensive game that needs polishing and a few years to develop. I'm ok with us going in the other direction here for a change and letting the defense grow.
I don't think Monk will ever be all-defense in this league, but there are a lot of players with Monk's offensive prowess and confidence that do just fine in this league and become franchise cornerstones. Defense is important, but for a team chocked full of defensive minded players, I'm ok with this.

Same. Not to mention, I think its easier for a player to improve defensively vs offensively.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Monk didn't get to handle/pass a lot in Kentucky's system. I think he's more than capable. I'm excited to see what he'd do in ours.
I'm glad we finally have a young athletic skilled talent in the draft. He's exactly what we need.

I should say, I love the Monk pick. We were sorely in need for more offensive weapons. I mean, it's pretty bad when your team's second best scorer averages 15 on 40% and I don't even know who would have been considered our third best scoring option last year... Marco? Lamb? Marvin?

Dell will hook him up!
IF Clifford plays him Marco minutes Monk will make the all-rookie team.

You'd think that with it being a guards league The Monk will absolutely light up the summer league with his ability to create and make shots.
I can't wait to see him out there for us.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Will be a perfect spark plug coming off the bench for a second unit that is desperate for any kind of scoring and play making.
Unless he develops into a PG I have no idea who he pairs with in the backcourt so we don't get abused on defense but that's the least of my worries with Clifford. It will get figured out to at least be passable.

Exactly not my favorite player, since I always high on a defensive minded and high effort guy. But as a fan I hope he will prove me wrong and make me grow to like him more.

That shot in the NCAA tournament against unc was cold blooded, he probably even got fouled on it. Of course unc came right back with the game winning shot but still. IIRC, Monk got in foul trouble in that game or disappeared for most of the game for some reason but he came alive and went off for the last five-ten minutes (game time) to give UK a chance.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
I've never been this hyped about any of our draft picks, well, since Adam Morrison anyway. Most of my knowledge of Monk comes from videos and stuff I've read about him, but I like everything. He is the perfect guy for us. I said we needed to go out and get us a Klay Thompson/Devin Booker/Zach LaVine type and we actually went out and got it. If Monk pans out, he's the 1b to Kemba that we've all been dreaming of. I didn't think for a second that Monk would actually fall to us.
investigate Adam Silver

I have to admit. The nickname "Uptown Monk" is pretty clever. My brain only thinks of 70s music puns. For those not from Charlotte, we call the downtown area where the arena is located, "uptown".

Q. Explain to me the difference in your shooting range and two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry’s shooting range.
A. Mine is better than his.
Q. When you start off 0-for-10 in a game, what do you do?
