Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
It's really dangerous to read too far into anything that comes out of Lee of JP's mouth. They are just sharing their canned responses they had planned all along. We aren't mortgaging our future if we package other teams picks to acquire a star. They said this since day one and then sold off Mark Williams once a deal they liked appeared. I think they're willing to add talent more than just make draft picks, but I also don't think that means they're going to trade assets for 2 years of Kevin Durant or a Jimmy Butler for example.
We obviously cannot go into next season with this roster. They talk about the core 4, which means nothing to me because they've shown they're willing to trade arguably the 2nd or 3rd best player of that core if they think it can improve their assets/roster.
Make no mistake, I'm not defending these two at all. I wouldn't have hired either and going back to last season and it bothers me when they give these corporate PR lines that provide nothing but emptiness.
We truly don't know what they're going to do, but the owners seem to want to invest at the ground up from the facilities and staff to the roster and are starting at the bottom.
I hope they realize what we need to do to become a team on the rise+playoff capable. It will require leveraging some of our assets to accomplish that since we don't have cap space to do anything beyond the MLE. We'll know more by like August I guess.

Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
I think the views around the NBA that they are turning the team around and doing such a great job of adding picks... is pretty surface level. Like most views on this team have been.
It really isn't that hard to be terrible, rent your cap space away and take on players nobody else wants to get picks. Teams do it all the time, losing games in the NBA is an easy task.

Absolutely, and it's even easier to do when only 1-2 other teams in the NBA are playing that game. Who else was in pick accumulation mode for the last 2 seasons? I'm not complaining, I think it's good that we have additional draft capital to maneuver with now. Something we have seemingly NEVER had even before the Bobcats.
But now you have to make it useful. Don't sell off talent only to acquire swings at talent 6 years later while the talent you do have left on the roster just rots away. It can easily create a never-ending cycle of "not enough talent, so trade away what talent we have for future talent and then do the same thing 2-3 years later because we waited too long to try winning".
The time to try winning was actually last year, but I get it. New regime, coming in late in the game, not a full off-season to evaluate and put a comprehensive plan together that wouldn't have resulted in risky moves... but I think we have enough here to know what this team needs in order to have a chance at competing and it sure as hell isn't just "hope everyone ends up healthy".

them pushing the idea that we need to patiently endure some prolonged level of garbage to attain in the end a long term sustainable successful program is total BS to any non casual NBA fan. thats not how good teams are built and there is no such thing as sustainable success in the NBA, theres cyclical phases builds and rebuilds. some teams skip phases sometimes by getting lucky or being in a desirable market. pushing that to fans that haven't watched a decent team play in their city in 25 years should get them laughed out of a press conference. there will never be a sustainably built organic free roam farm raised Hornets premier franchise dynasty. they need to focus on getting cycle of middling run out of this core by significantly adding talent to it or move on from it.

it is total BS to a casual fan too when you consider what we've recently attained in the draft.
Peterson inherited a team with multiple cornerstones already in place. Despite Kupchak's best efforts to ruin things, he added LaMelo, Mark Williams, and Miller in the span of 4 drafts. Adding another top pick, wherever it falls in the top 7, absolutely should yield another quality player (whether you make the pick or trade it). What more do you really need to tank for? Start building up the supporting cast instead of signing all of the absolute worst offensive players you can find, and actually give this core a chance for the first time.
investigate Adam Silver

Everytime Zion name is mentioned we are always listed as a possible suitor.
There has to be some real interest especially if we don't get a top 5 pick. The franchise has to make a splash move this off-season.

That's good to see. Hes my favorite hornet after Miller. I want him to get healthy, stay healthy, and us to keep him.

Yes and yes. Coop may never put on the kind of strength needed to play the 4 full time. Zion acquisition at good value is worth looking into. But only at a discount. Injury and conditioning history is still a big red flag.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I am not asking much. No excuses for failing to upgrade Josh Green and for not removing him from the starting lineup at the very least.

He’s one of the least aggressive players I’ve ever seen start an NBA game. His main goal seems to be just getting a nice sweat in and running around a bit.

Re: Offseason 2025 Thread
Thoughts on NAW as a potential MLE target this summer? I think we would definitely need to move Josh Green. cant be paying both of those dudes to play the same role.

Better than another g-league reach for sure, and certainly would be an improvement over Green. But who’s gonna take Green and what can we get for him? Seems he’s either in the wrong role here or he’s truly a very limited player.
