Since we have no other answer in sight for our terrible frontcourt I'm just going to go ahead and assume that Kalk is going shock us with how good he is.

Please don’t expect too much. He’s even more limited movement wise than Mark on defense.

Can maintain a stance at least. Clip's from two years ago, but still think he could stand to bulk up.

He’s going to get killed off the pick and roll. Solid depth piece though especially if he can start hitting the deep shot. Definitely has a role in this league.

Not sure what to make of him yet. I'm not really in love with centers that can only play deep drop coverage like that. It's why someone like Moose will always be ahead of him if I were choosing lineups. But he does seem to have pretty decent hands and can finish around the rim. He's like a stiffer clingan. Was definitely hoping we'd see him launch a few more threes in this first game. I think that's his best chance At getting real minutes.

I saw about what I expected from Kalk, did well for his first NBA level game. At his age he’s more ready to give some good minutes than much younger kids. But Ryan’s ceiling is reserve center, a good one. His 3 pointer requires a long windup, so he will launch it when given enough empty space.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I think he has a legitimate chance as a poor mans Brook Lopez. They have very similar skillsets and body types.

Won't average many rebounds (as most larger centers tend not to for some reason) but he can get 10pts and 2.5 blocks per game and shoot some threes.

I wasn't very impressed by him

Not enough ass nor athleticism to be a starter or main backup

I think that's the Edey argument all over again. You don't need to be some athletic freak to be a good center.

Uh, Zach Edey weighs 50lb more, is another 3" taller, 4.5" longer wingspan, and 3" longer standing reach.

Kind of a wild comparison.

About the same as comparing Kalk to someone like Brandon Ingram. It's like saying "Well Bill Walton was white and he was pretty good"

Kalk has very limited hops, will never be quick enough to extend perimeter D, and has too long a wind up on his shot to be a regular 3 maker. But his base skills, good reads on blocks, passing, sorta average rebounding and good hands will help him have a place in the league. Experience will help him adjust and improve. But he’s not a starting 5 now or likely in the future, nor was he drafted as such.

I have to say I haven't been very impressed with him so far. He's just so limited with what he can do for you. I mean yes there is a time and place to have someone like him on the roster. But that's not someone I'm playing 24 minutes a night. There are certain teams where he will simply be unplayable. i think he starts the season as the third string center, He's there until we are basically out of the playoff picture or until we make a trade or until someone gets hurt.

To me Kalk has some expected, as-advertised weaknesses - he's a poor rebounder and drop coverage exclusive - but the unadvertised weakness of his physical weakness has been unexpected. He needs to get on Tiddy's strength and balance regimen asap.
