Re: 2016 Scavenger Hunt Draft (Fat's pick)
With all these superstar offensive players, every team will need a few elite defensive players in the lineup at all times. In the 80s, Michael Cooper was considered one of the best defenders in the league and perhaps the best wing defender in the league, although Sidney Moncrief might argue that title. Cooper obviously knows how to play next to Magic and guard anyone from PG to PF allowing Magic the freedom to pick the ideal defensive matchup. Two things that most people don't know about Cooper is that he was both a great passer as well as a very solid 3pt shooter.
Team Fats selects Michael Cooper, Champ Bench, 1986-87
- Defensive player of the year in 86-87
- 1st team all-defense 86-87
10.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 4.5apg
38.5% from 3pt on 231 attempts
Yes, Cooper was so good defensively, he won the DPOY award will only starting two games.

Re: 2016 Scavenger Hunt Draft (Fat's pick)
I'm picking my power forward who has shown the ability, smarts and commitment to adjust/sacrifice his game to fit in with other stars to win.
I'm taking 09/10 Chris Bosh with the southpaw category.
In his last year at Toronto he averaged 24pts, 10.8 Rebs, 2.4 assists and a block.

Had I gone with Stockton over Dirk then Bosh was going to be my next pick. The big question for me was to go with higher scoring Raptors version or with the Heat version after he learned to shoot 3s.

He could shoot 3s in Toronto too, just didn't shoot many due to being the target inside. He shot 36% in 9/10

Wade, Paul and Bosh, are you trying to make us hate your team?

We should also do a thread on the PC board, just to see who impartial outsiders would pick.

yosemiteben wrote:My team has the shooters, facilitators, and high BBIQ guys to be the best offensive team the world will ever know. We all know this. The Achilles heel as my team is currently constructed is its paint defense. A lot of teams have softy PFs that LeBron can handle defensively, but he can't be our team's answer to the elite offensive bigs we'll face. We need a big man that can help us on the boards, but we especially need a man who will own the paint on defense, a man who will put fear into the soul of anyone who dares approach our hoop.
Who is this defensive terror?
With my fifth pick, I use my Big White Spliff pick to select 7'4", 275 pound Mark Eaton, the destroyer of worlds.
In 1984-85, Mark Eaton won DPOY while averaging 5.6 blocks per game. He also pulled down 11.3 rebounds per game. He did some other stuff, but I give zero poops about that because on this team Eaton is going to block shots and grab rebounds and laugh in your face and insult your mama. Eaton is a guy that knows his role, won't ask for shots, and will do all of our dirty work.
My starting five is complete:
PG: Fat Lever
SG: Reggie Miller
SF: Peja Stojakovic
PF: LeBron James
C: Mark Eaton
I have to assume Eaton is the cream of the big white stiff crop. Kudos.

He made eight 3s all season. That 36% number is deceiving. Especially since he shot 24% in 08-09 and 10-11. He was still a great player but he did not have 3 point shooting in his repertoire at that time.

Re: 2016 Scavenger Hunt Draft (Ians pick)
Thats the reason I didn't take Bosh, I couldn't find a year where he was really good. He's a steady all-star type and I don't think he's as good as McGrady or Gilmore, the two I was considering. I figured McGrady would clash with Kobe in end-of-game situations
