30 Point Threshold - Noah Vonleh Thread

Noah is more athletic and stronger than Bosh was at that age. He also has shown more range and ballhandling skills than 19 year old Bosh. Bosh's overall offensive game was much more developed though. I think Vonleh will be a better defender and rebounder with a fairly similar but probably not as good offensive game. I think he can be just as good as Bosh but more because of his superior defense and rebounding potential. I also agree he will be more of a power player than Bosh but I see why people compare the two. Their games definitely have some similarities.

Noah can shoot which makes him way different from Nene and Tisdale. Maybe a Chris Webber type big man would be appropriate. Played with power but also had good range on his jumper. Similar length and size as well.

The problem is there are a very small number of players with his skill set and size. I mean he took over a three a game at Indiana and hit at 48%. Most guys who shoot like that at his height are rail thin and more SF than PF. That is what makes this so hard to do. You almost have to compare him to really good players because you can't find a mediocre player who has similar size and skill.

I guess we will find out in about 2-3 years. I don't foresee him playing hardly at all this season. Maybe some spot minutes here and there, but Zeller and Williams have the PF spot on lockdown for at least this season, unless he can get minutes over Williams which I doubt at this point. We do have some rather talented players down low in Vonleh, Zeller, and Biyombo. Hope they pan out.

True. It would have been nice to have him last year when getting playing time for developing players was more a priority. May slow his development a little bit but he will still be ok I think.

Depending on what happens this off season with Jefferson and Biyombo we very well could be rolling out a Zeller/Vonleh duo next year.

Probably wouldn't be pretty right off unless they have amazing off seasons.

He needs more core strength. The one thing he does have going for him is he has a huge ass. May sound kind of weird, but he can use that thing to create himself a ton of space in the post. Kind of like how Diaw does, except hes way more athletic.

I still can't decide where he'd be best. His lateral quickness seems a bit lacking for guarding PFs where you have to deal with perimeter players more but his game seems too versatile to be restricted as playing as a traditional C. He's the nebulous PF/C for me right now.

Dear lord, he makes the two guys behind him look like middle-schoolers (with beards). I think he has good athleticism but it is more smooth athleticism as opposed to explosive. He clearly has some lift judging from his combine numbers but he doesn't explode off the floor the way some other guys do. His combine statistics make it seem like he should have athleticism close to the Blake Griffins or even Cody Zellers of the league. He clearly doesn't launch off the ground like those guys but he has some sneaky athleticism. If he maintains that while his body fills out he could be kind of scary. He is probably going to be a beast when he is 21/22 and I can't even imagine what he is going to look like when hes 25/26.

Chris Webber!? haha, that's really something. not only in a sense on putting a very high ceiling on the guy, but comparing him to a guy who's basically the only point-center to ever play in the NBA (the 93-94 Dubs team was so fun, Nellie had both C-Webb and Billy Owens bringing the ball up the court). I don't see Vonleh being someone similar to him at all.

Webber is not perfect but he was as close as I could find to someone with some power in his game and range on his shot. Everybody keeps throwing out names like Tisdale. Problem with that is that he didn't have the range. If you can find a guy who had the length and power it looks like Noah may have plus the shooting range then I am all ears.

Edit: Would a none crazy Derrick Coleman fit better? How about a more athletic version of Brad Miller?

NBAdraft.net has his comparison as Jamal Mashburn.

Mashburn was a similar size to Vonleh and Jamal had 3pt range and long arms but he was a better passer.

So maybe Noah is a bigger/better rebounding/defensive Jamal Mashburn?
