Came here to ask the same thing. Did he lose money in the GameStop thing?

Dolan didn't want to lose some of his competition for worst owner (amongst the twitter crowd types)

i have a bad feeling these guys are going to be at best equally as bad as MJ (the running jokes will continue as Gabe Plotkin is set up to be portrayed as a giant clown in a couple months in Dumb Money) or far worse. Plotkin seems almost like a caricature of completely out of touch mega Wall Street douche except he doesn't even have the capital to really set this organization up for success any better than MJ as far as I can tell. If he was a failure as a hedge fund manager to the point where he had to shut down his firm why on earth would anyone think he can run a basketball team. His current business as far as I can tell is Tallwoods Capital, with a website that looks like it was made in literally 5 minutes on a WordPress template https://tallwoodscap.com/about-1

I agree. I get small money vibes from these guys and I don't think they're buying in to be competitive. I think they saw an opportunity to make money and that's it.

I have 0% faith in these dudes and their commitment to winning.

We should get relegated to the gleague.

Didn't you guys wanted MJ to sell the team?

to someone new and wealthy maybe, and preferably someone who has even a faint connection to the Carolinas

hard to envision a ton changes just because the ownership percentages went from 60 MJ - 40 undercapitalized Wall Street loser to 60 undercapitalized Wall Street Loser - 40 MJ

even Tepper would be probably be better than these guys, at least he's not afraid to burn some cash

Count me in the camp that has low expectations for new ownership. I'll believe they actually want to compete and put a good product on the court if and when they actually invest in what's required to do that.

The main motivations of wanting MJ to sell are

1- He can't meddle in basketball stuff anymore.

2- New owners hopefully invest in the team more seriously.

But MJ is staying as a part owner and the new owners aren't exactly rolling in money. So it's unlikely anything major changes. MJ is still going to meddle when possible and the new owners seem like people who buy sports teams for their portfolios, not to make them successful.

So, yeah. The new owners turning things around is definitely a "I'll believe it when I see it" thing.

I'd have a lot more confidence if Plotkin wasn't already an part owner. I think our best chance at real change are from the other new owners from outside the organization.

I think MJ will eventually sell all his shares and go buy the Bulls or an NFL team.
The new owners haven't talked about MJ in any type of front office role and all that has been said is MJ still owns part of the team and would remain in control until after the draft.

I expect the new owners to probably implement a new coach and gm after this season unless we have a great year.
The changes won't be over night, but I do expect things to slowly turnover and they 100% will implement their own people.
The one guy was part owner of Hawks at some point, so wouldn't be shocked if we poach a few of their scouting/front office folks over the next year.

for me one of the new majority ownership guys switching his investment from Atlanta was another disappointing aspect of this transaction; are the Atlanta Hawks the team from which we want the Hornets importing basketball minds?

No. They just traded one of their key guys for a bag of Lays Original and a 2nd because they kept giving out a bunch of contracts and **** their payroll.

I mean this is it. The expectation is we'll be better run because new ownership will hire new management that is more qualified than being related to MJ.
