you cant have this level of performance 2x in a row and not expect consequences. maybe he makes it to next season, but that leash is very very short from here on. hot seat commencing.

If he is kept, next year is a make the playoffs and show defensive improvement or you are gone. That’s if he doesn’t get canned soon.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
If we go into next season with the same coaching staff, I might check out like DY_nasty
At the bare minimum, they need to reset all the assistants and start over. But I feel the players have already quit on Borrego and it will show in exit interviews.

Borrego is the MKG of coaches: he’ll be here years longer than he deserves to be. That leash seems like it’s infinite.

JB is lucky our owner is cheap as hell and doesn't want to pony up for a higher quality coach. JB is the best you can get with our budget. He can stick around getting dunked in the playins for the next 5 years and still keep the job
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Quin Snyder might be available if the Jazz lose in the first round. He'd be first on my list.
We should have hired Udoka. We hired the wrong Spurs assistant.

I agree on Snyder. Avery Johnson might be worth having a chat with.

Hell Frank Vogel would be worth reachin out to. Atleast he might teach them some defense and can't play Carmelo at center (unless god forbid we sign him)

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
Came here to throw my hat in the ring on the fire JB thing. Dude does not have what it takes to lead us to playoff wins. I’ve seen all I need to see. Maybe he’ll be there one day, but it won’t be in this stint as a head coach. I really hope the org looks at this with facts and not false hope.
I also don’t even value lottery picks anymore. We either waste them by picking the wrong guy or waste them by not playing any of them. If we don’t win a top 4 pick, package that **** up.
Speaking of which, I’ve seen enough of Terry Rozier to know with certainty that he is best suited for a scorer off the bench kind of like how we use Kelly. Problem is the franchise thinks he’s their centerpiece and gave him a **** ton of money. Trade him for Randle or something.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
On one hand I feel like it's unfair to judge him when he's always had a doo doo or inherently flawed roster full of guys who don't play defense.
On the other, somebody in the FO needs to share ownership of the back to back embarrassing performances in the play in, and I think Mitch has done slightly more to warrant sticking around than Coach.

Kupchak can continue to draft but his non-draft roster moves have seriously been worse than Cho's, **** him.SWedd523 wrote:On one hand I feel like it's unfair to judge him when he's always had a doo doo or inherently flawed roster full of guys who don't play defense.

Larry Brown cost money.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
Here are some names to think about (if our FO has the spine to make a change)
Quin Snyder - will be highly sought after if he and the Jazz part ways, especially by Lakers
Sam Cassell - hot assistant rising up the ranks and apparently a good leader, but no HC experience
Jerry Stackhouse - ditto
Juwan Howard - huge risk/reward
Mike D'Antoni - tends to flame out quickly but could be good here after always being in high profile stops
Mike Brown - I can't stand this guy but has coached good defenses
Frank Vogel - despite this season is known for defensive schemes
Phil Handy - darkhorse candidate in the mold of Borrego
Kenny Atkinson - wouldn't mind him
David Fizdale - seems like an ****
Jared Dudley - would be a shocker but is a very smart player and well liked
Adrian Griffin - would love this hire, Nurse lead assistant and the Raptors play hard
Alvin Gentry - no from me dawg
Mark Jackson - no thank you
Scott Brooks - no
Steve Clifford - lol
Dave Joerger - wouldn't mind one bit
Terry Stotts - possible but would prefer other candidates
There are only going to a few openings this offseason (Kings, Lakers are definite - Jazz, Hornets, Knicks are possible but not very likely) so now would be the time, there are a bunch of candidates looking and we'd get a good deal
My favorites from this list are Snyder, Cassell, Atkinson, Griffin, and Vogel

Mitch builds a roster about as well as Helen Keller could build a house of cards.

Re: Over The Top: The James Borrego Thread
For me, Borrego cemented his lack of skill with the rotations in this play-in game. He took out LaMelo and PJ early, only to sub LaMelo in a few minutes later in the first quarter. PJ played very well for 4 minutes and then subbed out, and he didn't come back til the very end of the quarter. Miles was taken out for a solid 25 minutes of real time before his second sub in. No wonder he was **** ice cold. This is the biggest game of the season, we needed a short rotation and players playing long stretches of time to get in rhythm. We actually played four bench players and Rozier in a playoff game. The starters were disjointed and there was no flow at all. Too many different lineups. Like what the **** Borrego.

We should've hired him what seems like at least twice.

I agree, he’s so stubborn in sticking to his pre scripted plan. No game sense or ability to adjust mid game. He takes the one guy out producing anything in PJ and puts in a guard. So now, already struggling to score and struggling to rebound you got smaller and less offensively capable. Why not bring Cody in for the ice cold Terry at that point in the game? Why leave Mason in there so long in the first when Trez is obviously more equipped to be effective in this game? Why continue to run Terry at point?
We aren’t asking for much. Just making the damn playoffs finally would’ve been enough no matter how bad we got beat. But to not even be competitive in a do or die game in back to back years??? Um no.
