Obviously because the only way to build a team is to tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank tank and then maybe you go from the worst to best team in the League.

I do not understand. Jefferson was awesome for us and 100% performed at the level of his contract and above IMO. He was garnering attention for All Star consideration at one point.

I agree with you Rich - I look at Jefferson's time as a positive for us.

Alright, next time I see Danny Ainge I'm going to kick him in the balls so hard he will think it's 1986!

Or you can just have Chris Paul punch him in the balls instead!

the issue with Al Jefferson's contract wasn't so much the number but the decision-making process involved in offering it to him. Al certainly played up to the level of his contract, especially the first few years.

the decision to sign him definitely had a positive return, too, but it had larger ramifications on the team's direction that I think inform a lot of long-time fans' exasperation at the Gordon Hayward contract. maybe more than any other inflection point in the last 10 years of this franchise.

I'm not sure that the situations of 2013-14 and 2020-21 are 100% comparable when it comes to "team direction" and "the franchise life-or-death stakes of a high-profile free agent signing," mainly because Mitch Kupchak has drafted quite a bit better than Rich Cho, at all levels of the draft and also the undrafted market.

so it's not quite the same trajectory of the team. that whole situation with Steve Clifford's first three seasons felt like a salmon making it as far upriver as it could, whereas this year's team is still ascending (how high will it end up is the massively open question), and there's been an obvious commitment to building a pipeline of young, cost-controlled talent.

Better yet have Tacko Fall hang from his balls like it's the rim. Just hang until you hear a SNAP! Teach this twerp a lesson!

I get the feeling the front office likes Zeller a lot. If I had to bet on it, I think we are going to roll with who we have at center. Richards and Carey will get looked at extensively. It's going to be real ugly against certain bigs, but I think we'll see how the new guys progress and then make a move at the deadline if it's not working.

I wonder if Riller and/or Richards will get 2-way deals? And if so are we planning on signing anyone else?

Off the top of my head Kaminsky, MKG, Vonleh, Korver, Turner, Dedmon, Lee, Korkmaz, and Waiters are all unsigned. A lot of former Hornets available ....

3 Cho lottery picks unsigned and none yet 28 years old. That's a special skill! And the Nic Batum contract is like COVID-19.

I had wondered over to the Celtics trade board to observe and see if I could learn some of their motivation behind wanting the TPE etc... and I wanted to shares some of my observations for fun.

1. The LOVE Theis, like they think he is just as good as Capela and Turner, claiming he was a top 4 center left in playoffs.

2. They think Indiana was making up false claims that Danny was asking for Turner, Oladipo or Warren. Or that Turner, McDermott and a first was just a lie floated out to the Pacer Fans...lol

3. They have mixed feelings on Hayward, some won't miss him others feel like they are pretty average after losing him.

4. Some have brought up trading us a first rounder for the TPE, some think we should just do the sign and trade for a second rounder regardless what happens with Batum.

5. Their thread management is nuts, basically they just talk about everything in the trade thread, quotes from rookies, books they read, it was a different world.

They treat Grant Williams and Robert Williams like they are untouchable players and would not include them in a deal to get TPE

7. Master Ichiro is over there holding it down for us as the resident Hornet fan on their board.

Happy for Frank. Really didn't like how his last year with us went down.

I'm sure we would have gotten Whiteside or Cousins if this Hayward thing wasn't taking too long

We wanted Harrell. I think he was a good target. We also chased Turner, another good one. We have Hayward to recruit Gobert and we drafted Carey Jr. I still trust Kupchak.

I want Langford from the Celtics, you may discount it but I think having two other Indiana guys on the roster in Hayward and Zeller would be big for him.

I think having a bad player on a $9 million dollar deal (i.e. the Batum stretch) for the next 3 years in exchange for taking a flyer on a decently skilled and athletic wing that was a top 5 recuit isn't a bad deal at all.

Why do some people have beer goggles for Langford all of a sudden?
