Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Lamelo guarding more 2s and 3s next year. Sure he can play pg on offense but D doesn’t have to. You don’t see Luka guarding 1s.

Wouid make more sense why we have all the guards and lack of 3s. Everyone is thinking about offensive positions.

Similarly Curry and NSJ both could guard smaller guards. Green is a good point of attack defender.

Defensely it *couid* look like

Lead ball handler - green, Micic (Mann) Williams
Small wing - Lamelo, tre Mann, NSJ, Curry
Any wing - miller, Cody, leaky
Big wing - miles, grant, salaun
Center - Williams, Richards, Gibson (grant, salaun)

you put melo on the mkg of the other team, let him guard the shame corner. never should be poa defender. works in first 3 quarters. down stretch he'll get put in switches until he's stuck on ball.

Probably right but it assumes no more compelling offers for Micic. Vasa is an interesting piece so I can't rule out listening to some of the offers.

Nuggets already surveyed the market for Reggie and determined negative value. Denver also was rumored to be offering Nnaji for Micic.

That offer alone (if true) would make me hesitate to pay to move Reggie.

Moving Micic as positive value instead of Reggie at negative seems to be the better play. Plus Vasa is owed through next season, and his value increased after the deadline (especially if Nnaji is a real offer).

No I don't think we'll trade him, we'll cut him if nobody wants him as part of another multi-team trade for salary purposes.

He hasn't been introduced yet, so there's something going on.

Micic is also on a 1+1 TO contract, and is worth his money anyway, so idk what the rush in trying to trade him is.

He's better than Reggie too.

Another interesting player to monitor is Koloko. He was coming along nicely before the blood clot issue - showed a lot of promise. Know he's been working his way back and just played at a FA showcase in Vegas. https://www.si.com/nba/raptors/former-toronto-raptors-center-christian-koloko-works-out-for-nba-teams

Mann should be PG2. We have a contract decision on him, with Tre heading towards restricted free agency. We should see how he looks in that role before we invest.

1- LaMelo (32)- Micic (16)- Reggie(x)
2- Green (28)- Mann (18)- Nsj (x)- Curry (x)
3- Miller (32)- Martin (16)
4- Miles (32) - Grant (68) - Tidjane (x)
5- Mark (26) - Richards (16)- Grant (6)- Taj (x)

2ways
KJ Simpson, Leaky Black, (Jake Stephens)

Looking at the depth chart that has zero mins played for NSJ and Curry... are we sure Tre Mann isn't potentially the guy moved? He is an expiring contract and might have some value to the right team.

Also, Josh Green can play some SF if needed which could open mins up at the 2 for someone else.

So Mann (23) needs reps at PG2 and NSJ needs reps at SG2, but no, because Micic? A shorterm piece?

I for one, hope we double down on our longterm plans.

I'm not moving anyone Mann's age or burying NSJ in Greensboro on account of a short-term piece.

We are at 15 players under contract right now... salary ranks 27th/30 teams.
We are #1 in dead money too at 8.1 million.
Neither one of these scream a team trying to compete.

We still have our 7.9 million Room Exception.
A few things to note with this, we can either sign a player into that or we can actually trade for a player that makes under that and not send out salary (new this year).

That is interesting because that means teams could do the same and accept Reggie Jackson or Micic into that exception without sending out salary.

Eligible teams that either have room exception or full MLE still available.
Houston, Washington, Brooklyn, Memphis, Toronto, Cleveland, Portland, Sacramento, Indy, NO, Spurs, Detroit, Utah, OKC or Orlando.

Reggie Jackson is apparently expected to be waived. The roster has basically taken shape and the depth chart is starting to look more clear.

starters: LaMelo ~ Green/Martin ~ Miller ~ Bridges ~ Mark
bench5: Micic ~ Mann ~ Martin/Green ~ Grant ~ Richards
depth: Curry ~ Salaun/NSJr ~ Gibson
GBoro: NSJr/Salaun ~ Simpson/Black/Stephens

I maintain that Gibson is a complete waist of a roster spot. Hes not capable of playing at all and is basically purely an overpaid assistant coach that also takes up a roster spot. Someone like Biz would have made more sense in that role because as of now they don't have a remotely serviceable 2nd center if Mark isn't healthy. I don't have a problem with Richards as a backup, but Richards + Gibson would be the worst center rotation in the league by a large margin.

Biz and Gibson are equally bad. I can't really get upset we signed one over the other.

All but like 5 NBA teams are going to be lacking center depth if their starter gets hurt.
So yeah it doesn't shock me we don't have 3 quality centers on the roster.

I don't want either in the rotation, so I'm not going to get real worked up about this.

Also, we are unlikely to be a playoff team so I have to think that the attractiveness to sign up to be an out of rotation C for our team must have been extremely low for anyone that wants an NBA career that extends beyond next season.

Indeed, despite the good things our new coach and GM have done, they are not maneuvering to make the playoffs. Coach Lee says he doesn’t try to set limits, or caps, on what is possible. But he knows the opportunity this upcoming draft represents, the still precarious nature of health for Mark, and the open question on Melo’s ankle long term. Therefore, if we get near preseason and don’t see much of our starting center, don’t look for some aggressive trade to save us.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

If were down to biyombo or Taj playing meaningful minutes at all were screwed anyway. Both are terrible.

Boomers Coach doesn't use role players much, can see Exum and Daniels getting more minutes due to their point guard abilities

Gary Trent signs a minimum deal. I feel like we should've beaten that just for the wing depth and extra trade piece
