Re: "Guys?" The Bismack Biyombo Thread
as we all know Clifford has stressed defensive rebounding, a staple of a good defense, and we've been good at it grabbing 77.1% of rebounds at our basket (we're second only to Indiana's 77.4). Meanwhile, Biz has been praised for his rebounding this season as his rebounding percentage has really gone up and he does seem to get a lot of rebounds in traffic judging by the eye-test.
However, it turns out that he's way worse at securing defensive rebounds than Big Al is. We, as a team, grab the most rebounds (78.4%) when Biz is on the bench and the least (74.8%) when he is on the court. That's a difference between the league's best rebounding team and the 16th best rebounding team. Interesting stat...

Re: "Guys?" The Bismack Biyombo Thread
I know some will say that Biz's stats are hurt by him playing alongside Zeller. It seems like that's the case for most of the part (I suppose Biz still has a bit to learn about jumping at the right time and sometimes rather going for his assignment to box out than jumping for the ball). But then again some of you have also previously blasted McBob's rebounding numbers. Well, we as a team don't suffer from McBob being on the court rebounding-wise. It just goes to show you how empty "rebounds per game" can be. Josh might not get a lot of rebounds but he's a lot better (because of his experience and strength mostly) than Zeller at boxing out his opponent. McBob barking at he ref (he's actually our most animated player, isn't he?) after he was supposedly fouled on a tough box out is a daily occurrence.

so what does this say about jefferson's empty stat-padding non-contested rebounds?

Not much. The starters are pretty good as a whole of boxing out or drawing opponents away from the boards so Jefferson gets a lot of them.
I think Biz's contested rebound problem is still plagued by the same problem he's always had, when he's on the floor he has to sacrifice rebounding position a lot to alter/block shots at the rim b/c Sessions and company are turnstiles. That being said, I don't mind Zeller alongside Biz b/c what rebounds Zeller does manage to get are enhanced by his ability to semi-start the break immediately with the whole bench unit being very good in transition. That's something that a lot of people don't appreciate with McBob is that part of the reason why Al gets so many easy rebounds is b/c McBob's ability to turn a rebound into a fastbreak as a ballhandler can hurt an opposition that lingers around for a chance to crash the boards. Al doesn't have to worry about contesting for a board b/c the opposing team generally secedes it to him in favor of making sure Charlotte has to score in the half court.

I suppose that I have to admit that I was wrong for blasting him to that degree.

Biyombo in his limited role is proving that he can be a player in this league.
Worst case we've got a 20mpg backup 5, who is among the best rim protecters in the league for the next 12-15 years.

I agree that the chances of him being Ben Wallace are slim to none but he can be a starter in this league imo.
I have faith in him as well, and I think he can be a solid starter in todays NBA since the center position is about as diluted as the SG position, but he still has a good ways to go. Al Jefferson is the best thing that ever happened to him.
This. I am perfectly okay waiting till 2016 for Biz to finally break through, because that's the year Al expires. That gives him 5 years in the league, 3 with Al, Clifford, and Ewing. The only thing that frustrates me is that Clifford refuses to play him and Al together even though they're perfect fits.
I think it would a huge spacing issue

Re: "Guys?" The Bismack Biyombo Thread
prediction of a future blog from bonnell:
Haywood Nearing Return
Brendan Haywood will return to action this week after missing the first 60 games due to a stress fracture. Haywood should immediately provide front court help for the Bobcats, who are thin at the center position since they traded Jeff Adrien to Milwaukee in a trade deadline deal. Haywood's return will most likely push reserve center Bismack Biyombo to the end of the bench. Biyombo has been a disappointment this season averaging career lows in points and rebounds. Coach Steve Clifford called Haywood the team's best post defender during training camp, something this team will need during the upcoming playoff push. Haywood's return could be the final nail in the frustrating career of Biyombo, who will most likely not be resigned once his rookie contract is finished.
Notes: The Bobcats passed on several centers in the previous two drafts, such as Andre Drummond, Nerlens Noel and Maryland standout, Alex Len, for fear that it would cripple Biyombo's development.

When the two play together you play walker, Tolliver and Neal/Ridnour/Pargo alongside them. Boom. Solved.

Re: "Guys?" The Bismack Biyombo Thread
We frequently see Biz just demolish a defender with his off-ball screens. Well, not only does it look good but it is efficient as well as he ranks in the top10 of the best screeners in the league.
It's a screen-shot of an ESPN insider article (can I do this fats?) so it would be too long for me to post it using the [img] tags. Moreover, you sort of need to read most of the article to understand the numbers:

Biz might be our 4th or even 3rd best player by next season (if he isn't already)

elite rim protector, elite screener, good (getting better) rebounder (saw his name a few times in the sloan paper on rebounding).

Biz is a ballplayer now. He also held us down as a starter when Jefferson was injured this season. I would love to see how we look with him and Jefferson on the floor at the same time.

Biz is looking like a good pick at this point, I think he needs another season but he's a future starter imo.
