I don't recall ever using WS/48 as a stat to prove a player's ability relative to other players. Ranking AJ above most of the other players I mentioned was bad enough. Ranking Thabeet above them just shows the absurdity relying on that stat can create. APM is probably the most reliable statistic out there and Jefferson's APM numbers aren't very good.

Win Shares is a dubious metric at best. AJ had a better WS/48 than Dwight Howard.

You mean the same Dwight Howard who was an utter disaster in LA last year? The guy whose team was out of the playoffs for most of the year? The guy for whom refs had to swallow their whistle for the last month of the season so his team could make the playoffs? Are we talking about that guy? Newsflash: Al Jefferson WAS better than that guy last season. The Lakers sucked last year! Dwight Howard was a big part of that suckage. I'll file this as a "No duh!" stat of the year.

I'd take last year's Dwight over any year's AJ. And you conveniently ignored the remainder of my post that illustrated the significant problems relying on WS/48.

While they were extremely good, it is definitely a stretch to say that they were better last year. I'm not one to make excuses for Dwight, but I put 95% of the blame on D'Antoni for the Lakers flopping last year. Dwight didn't have that much to do with it.

1st team all-NBA - duncan
2nd team all-NBA - gasol
3rd team all-NBA - howard
DPOY voting - gasol#1, duncan#6, howard#14
2nd team defense - gasol, duncan
MVP voting - duncan#7, gasol#12
win shares/48 - gasol .197, duncan .191, howard .134
PER - duncan 24.4, gasol 19.5, howard 19.4
team wins - duncan 58, gasol 56, howard 45

regardless of howard's many excuses, you are going to have a hard time convincing me that howard was better last year than duncan and gasol. sorry.

Votes are historically skewed by team wins. Good players on bad teams usually don't do well.

Measures like PER and Wins are slightly stronger.

That said Howard didn't bowl me over either last year.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

for those of you not following the game thread...

jefferson hurt his right ankle during the game and immediately was helped off the floor to the locker room. he will be reevaluated tomorrow.

post updates here once they are available.

I'm devastated, sounded like he was going ok too.

Hoping for the best obviously.

sounds less like a season-ending thing and more like a we'll see him in a week and a half type thing. which is a relief. the entire roster takes a different shape with him on the shelf.

Obviously not fearing for his career but ankles are a delicate proposition.

No matter his injury there is an upside.

If he's only out for a bit then Bobcats have AJ back to in no time to make a real difference inside.

If he's out for a prolonged period of time then the Bobcats will have more balls for the Wiggins lottery.

One piece of good news, but soft tissue injury could be just as bad. Probably need to wait for an MRI to be sure there is no ligament damage.

Sprained ankle is somewhat good news considering the way some people were reacting when the injury occurred. Then again, Mullens had his season wrecked last year by a sprained ankle. If it's bad enough, it's a real problem.

I hope you are right. They want the swelling to go down before they do further tests. We need Al.

I'm glad by the news, Al is obviously very important for us and our best player.

Ankle injuries can linger so I hope it doesn't.
