In case anyone is curious, here's what a full, 5-year max contract with ascending 7.5% raises under the projected $94M cap looks like for Nic.

28YO: $26.56M
29YO: $28.55M
30YO: $30.56M
31YO: $32.54M
32YO: $34.53M

Total: 5 years/$152.727M
Average: $30.545/year

I know people are ok with maxing him but seriously. Just threw up in my mouth at those numbers. I wish max deals could go back to those players who are legit max players.

This makes sense.

And to think Spartacus, Gannicus and Crixus didn't even get paid for entertaining the crowds of Capua 2000 years ago.

I think we may be able to talk him down from a full max since we know he likes it here, but if it's the difference between him staying and leaving, max that motherfudger up

Man, we could have had Hayward at 10M less. F the Jazz for matching.

I like thinking about the damage we'd do with a four man unit of Kemba, Batum, Hayward, and MKG. Yeah we probably don't go after Nic with Hayward there but still it's fun to think about.

With that said, Hayward is about to make even more than Nic will. Hayward's contract is up next summer and his max contract will start somewhere in the order of $32 MILLION.

They only have tim for two more years though. Still a good deal, but his payday is coming. We have to remember the salary cap has essentially doubled, it went from 58 to 113. So every contract in this new market, simply divide the number by 2 if you want to compare it to what it was worth in the old market. We offered Gordon Hayward 63/4, so basically 16M year. Take Batum's contract he's about to get, let's just say it's the max. Divide it by 2 and it's almost identical to what we offered Hayward on a per year basis. And Hayward and Batum I don't think there's much separating them. If you were cool with giving Hayward that max a few years ago, you should be cool with giving Batum the max tonight.

Personally I think Hayward is better, as he is more consistent in filling up the stat sheet and doesn't disappear for games like Batum does. However, he's never been in the playoffs so who knows.

I would be hesitant to give Batum those numbers. We had better go all in and get Lee and Marvin if we do that.

Yeah, I think I'd prefer Hayward by the slightest of margins but there simply aren't many players like Batum. Kemba, Marvin, Cody (**** it, we counting it), Lamb even, etc all had career years because they were playing next to one of the league's elite facilitators. There's a reason terrific franchises like the Spurs and Warriors were itching to get their paws on him. I salivate at the thought of MKG playing next to this guy, his offensive game should take the next step solidifying himself as one of the best young players in the league. Lose Batum and I don't see how we win 35 games next year. We're back in that territory of being bad, but not bad enough to land a franchise changing player in the draft. If we asks for the max absolutely give it to him.

So our "Big 3" (Kemba, MKG and Bats) would account for $50mil of our $94mil cap?

Leaving $44mil to fill out the roster.

Of that $44mil around $30mil is taken up by Cody, Frank, Lamb, Hawes, Daniels and Belineli.

Kemba
Bats - Belineli - Daniels
MKG - Lamb
Frank
Cody - Hawes

So we'd have $14mil left to find a back up PG, back up PF, back up C and depth players.

And dudes like Marv and Lee are getting $15+mill?

Sheesh......

Dude, if you could have been there to experience the jet ski accident I had, you'd think about riding with something to protect your chest and neck. :)

If Nic is gonna get that kind of max. Just let him walk, that is just too much of cap space to spend on someone at his level. He is not a superstar yet. Damn i hate this situation, overpaying everywhere.

It's just the reality of the times. The numbers look bigger but they're no different from any other year when compared to the salary cap.

Case in point:
