Not Grisman, but these Bela Fleck tunes are probably the closest to the feel of that track:

That Bela Fleck album is one of my top 5 albums of all time.

Are you familiar with Mark O Connor? I have this song on CD and its just ridiculous, seeing it live is even better. These cats are just playing at crazy speeds.

Its a shame the pedal steel is so heavily related to country music. I don't really care for country, but I love me some pedal steel. Its beautiful.

I've seen Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, I think 4 times, from back in the 90s. 92 Hoard Festival at Carowinds, 94? at App State, 95 and 97 at a place called Green Acres. 95 is when Sam Bush played with them. We camped out behind the stage. Got to meet the band and got autographs from Fleck, Victor Wooten and Future Man. That was awesome. I might have to make a top 10 Flecktones list. :)

Man, that 16/16 track was also really good. Excellent choice YB.

I've actually only seen them live once, way after you did. I saw them and Umphrey's McGee play in like 2008 or 09 at Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary. It was a great venue, and at the end they did an encore playing Stomping Grounds where Umphrey's was on stage and they all took turns passing around the solo, was a great musical moment.

Have you ever watched Bela's documentary Throw Down Your Heart? Guessing so, but if not you should definitely check it out. He also did an album at the same time and it's a staple in my house:

Been listening to Carlos Henriquez's The Bronx Pyramid (2015). His tunes are rangy and open, and while the melodies hark back to the heydays of Miles & Herbie's cool jazz, the warm & woody instrumentation gives it a freshness. The whole affair burbles along above latin rhythms. The bowed bass in Joshua's Dream gives a chamber jazz feel, and the sax solo channels Dexter Gordon's Parisian days. Elegant and classy, this is jazz at its timeless best.

I do not know who that is Snidely, but from your description I'm excited to give it a listen!

Really enjoyed this Snidely, and particularly enjoyed the title track - really the highlight of the album IMO. Got it on my "Check it Out" Spotify playlist.

That album reminds me of a couple of my favorites:

Avishai Cohen - Continuo (album name)

Avishai Cohen - Colors (album name)

Omar Sosa - Eggun

Cool I'm glad you like it. Agreed on the title track.

I like Avishai Cohen. I have his trio album 2008's Gently Disturbed. It's not on spotify but itunes.
I was not familiar with Omar Sosa, but really like this tune and plan to check him out further. Thanks!

Every time I come in this thread I realize how different my taste in music is from everyone else haha.

Though I do have a lot of fun going through what everyone posts and listening on my drives to and from work.

I vote we have new music Tuesdays where someone posts a relatively obscure album for us to listen to (extra credit from me if it is easy to listen to at work).

Last Tuesday (9/13), Snidely picked Carlos Henriquez's The Bronx Pyramid (2015).

Anyone up to make a selection for today?

Nice, hadn't seen that. I knew they announced the album recently but didn't know they released a track too, gonna have to check it out.

My pick is Afrobeat at its finest: Fela Kuti and The Africa '70 with Ginger Baker - Live!

I also liked it, YB. Are you a big enough fan of Fela Kuti to have a favorite album of his? If so, which one is it? Or is this one?

Man, this is tough. I've narrowed it down to about 10 albums.
