Shane Battier, always love that guy since he was a Rocket. A true leader and warrior, i won't be surprised if he becomes a head coach in this league someday.
Oh and f*ck you Sasha Vujacic.

I just had to pick the next guy as he is one of my all time favourites. It wasn't his best year and wasn't the standout on the team stat wise but I don't really care. Bird and co would've loved the way he plays the game.

For expansion I'm picking Crash, Gerald Wallace 2004/05.
11pts, 5.5rebs, 1.7stls, 1.3blks.

For my rookie category I am selecting the greatest Hornets in franchise history, Larry Johnson. LJ was a complete NBA player when he arrived in Charlotte as a rookie. His two best seasons as a pro were probably his first 2 seasons, prior to his back injury that changed him forever. How much fun would it be to see Magic throwing lobs to a 22 LJ, back when he could jump thru the roof. LJ gives me yet another player who can make plays for others as well as finishing at the rim with authority. LJ was the perfect mix of power and agility. He'll fit perfectly when Team Fats goes small with the lineup of death.

Team Fats selects Larry Johnson, Rookie, 1991-92
19.2ppg
11.0rpg
3.6apg
49%FG
83%FT
Rookie of the Year

Team Fats

PG: Magic Johnson 85-86, 18.8ppg, 5.9rpg, 12.6apg, 1st team All NBA, All-Star
SG: Ray Allen 08-09, 18.2ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.8apg, 41% from 3, 199 3s made, All-Star
SF: Michael Cooper 86-87, 10.5ppg, 4.5apg, 38.5% from 3, DPOY, 1st team All-Defense
PF: Karl Malone 96-97, 27.4ppg, 9.9rpg, 4.5apg, NBA MVP, 1st team All-NBA, 1st team All-Defense, All Star
C: Moses Malone 82-83, 24.5ppg, 15.3rpg, 2.0bpg, NBA MVP, Finals MVP, 1st team All-NBA, 1st team All-Defense, All Star

G: Manu Ginobili 07-08, 19.5ppg, 4.8rpg, 4.5apg, 40.1% from 3, 156 3s made, 6th MotY, All-Star
G: Otis Birdsong 80-81, 24.6ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.3apg, 1.2spg, 54%FG, 2nd team All-NBA, All-Star
F:
F: Larry Johnson 91-92, 19.2ppg, 11.0rpg, 3.6apg, 49%FG, Rookie of the Year

You could actually go small with your point guard as centre :D

as promised...

0:22, 1:12 and 1:44 for some sweet passes (he made a total of six assists which came off him attacking the rim and finding a guy for a layup or dunk).

check out 1:12 and 1:27 to see some surprisingly clueless defense by Fats's defensive stopper Michael Cooper.

For my next pick, using my Rookie pick and going with Blake Griffin. Honestly I can't believe he's still available, I thought he'd already been picked. His rookie season he averaged 22.5 points, 12.1 boards, and 3.8 assists, was a unanimous ROY (first unanimous winner since David Robinson in 1990) and was voted in to the ASG by coaches (the first time coaches voted a rookie in to the ASG since David Robinson in 1998). At one point his rookie season he had 27 consecutive double doubles, which was the longest streak by a rookie since Elvin Hayes in the 1967-68 season.

Blake opens up some interesting lineup combinations. He continues our strong rebounding and gives us a dynamic scorer and playmaker off the bench. His athleticism will be even more effective given all the passers on my team.

I hadn't noticed this (obviously I spent my Rookie pick a long time ago). Had considered taking him that time I selected Grant Hill.

Great pick. Especially this late. I had him in my top 3 for that spot when I was picking but that was just because of personal fit and preference. Not becuase of what kind of year he had. That's a steal this late.

with my eight pick I'm picking a guy who has been flat out robbed from a spot in the Hall of Fame.

Justin Kubatko (who created basketball-reference and does HoF breakdowns) has always called him one of the most deserving guys not in the HoF. His statistical probability of making it to the HoF at bk-ref is 0.870 (that marks him basically as a lock for the HoF). His teammates like to support his case (like my latest podcast guest Joe Hassett, shameless self-promotion). And as you can imagine - I also support this argument.

I select.....

Image

...Closer - Jack Sikma 1987-88 - 16.5PPG, 8.6RPG, 3.4APG, .922 FT

Just an intelligent, all-around center who at the age of 32 will bring some calm demeanor to my otherwise showboaty bench unit. At this point he's just 2PPG, 2RPG and two seasons removed from 7 straight All-Star appearances.

(15&12 for a championship team, 7 ASGs, 10-year prime of 17.0PPG, 10.8RPG and 3.4APG for 7 playoff teams, superb longevity as he basically didn't fall off a cliff - the case for Sikma in HoF, btw)

And most importantly - I add ANOTHER capable passer to my team. Teams that pass the ball tend to have good chemistry on and off the court.

Team Chris Mullin's Fade

PG: Gary Payton 1999-00 - 24.2PPG, 6.5RPG, 8.9APG, 1.9SPG, 177 3s (league leader), All-Defense 1st, All-NBA 1st.
SG: Grant Hill 1994-95 - 19.9PPG, 6.4RPG, 5.0APG, 1.8SPG, 0.9BPG, All-Star, ROY.
SF: Chris Mullin 1989-90 - 25.1PPG, 5.9RPG, 4.1APG, 1.6SPG, .372 3P%, All-NBA 3rd.
PF: George McGinnis 1976-77 - 21.4PPG, 11.5RPG, 3.8APG, 2.1SPG, All-NBA 2nd.
C: Hakeem Olajuwon 1989-90 - 24.3PPG, 14.0RPG, 2.9APG, 2.1SPG, 4.6BPG, All-Defense 1st, All-NBA 2nd.

Bench:

PG: World B. Free 1979-80 - 30.2PPG, 3.5RPG, 4.2APG, All-Star.
G/F: Tracy McGrady 2003-04 - 28.0PPG, 6.0RPG, 5.5APG, 174 3s (.339 3P%), All-NBA 2nd (role depends on match-up).
C: Jack Sikma 1987-88 - 16.5PPG, 8.6RPG, 3.4APG, .922 FT.

He looks like the professor in Saved by the Bell The College Years that stole Kelly from Zach.

Nice snag Lamar. Getting a center that can shoot FTs like that is a rarity. Can play him at any point in the game, obviously with Hakeem it's not needed but it sure is a damn luxury with all the other stats and skills Sikma brings.

With most of our teams being rather old-school, I imagine that some matchups might have two-center lineups going at it. I mean, with the way Coolio spoke about the Laimbeer pick, all of you might have to get ready for a Sikma vs. Laimbeer "Can't Jump Over a Phone Book" matchup at the 4, haha.

So was Robinson a rookie twice?
