No need to already be defensive IMO. We're all happy he's here.

lol so true!!! leave the baggage at the door. The hornets fans have been really positive and welcoming.

high salary - compare it to scrub Austin Rivers' salary and only the stupid will hate.
starting job - embraced the backup PG. who blames the backup PG for losses?
big cities - their media put him under the microscope. blowing up every weakness (example ESPN ranking Ish Smith higher than him wtf)

damn - spot on. he wants to prove his worth now i guess. honestly I was very surprised when he chose hornets but now i am really happy he is here. now he is underrated which puts way less pressure than being overrated and having high expectations.

the very least we can expect of him is to pull out 11ppg/4ast. now can he do better for himself? for his teammates? that's what the board here wants to see and know.

im curious to see also what kind of team chemistry the team will have. is MKG an energy/intense guy? i think every team needs a kind of person that energizes the team like that.

can he do better than 11ppg/4ast? considering that would be his worst statistical season if he were to contribute that, the question should be how is he going to be utilized and how much PT will he see.

Williams was playing around 25mpg backing up and playing next to Kemba once Kemba came back from his knee injury while averaging around 11 and 4.

I'd expect Lin to log around the same.

Lin averaged 11 and 4 in the worst situation possible on the Lakers (Kobe ballhogging, Nick Y/Carlos B chucking, tank mode benching).
Lin averaged 13 and 6 during his first year with the Rockets, which was a good system for him. I'd expect around 13 and 6 this year too unless there is Al or Kemba are injured, in which case the numbers could go up.

He also averaged 32 MPG that year, which seems highly unlikely if Kemba is healthy. The last three years he's put up between 14.9 - 15.7 ppg and 5.2 - 6.8 apg on a per 36 basis. I'd expect numbers similar to that here in Charlotte, with his actual production being proportionately reduced by the amount of minutes he actually plays. Honestly I don't expect him to play more than 25 MPG barring injury to Kemba or maybe one of our starting wings.

damn - i think he might play closer to 28 mins though if they decided to play lin and kemba together at times, or in the 4th. I think he was getting less minutes near end of his career on the rockets, but he would get more minutes if he was featured to close with the group (just like on the lakers as well)

Judging by the scoring on this team, they would want and probably prefer lin to play more in the 4th.

I'd imagine Lin would be pretty disappointed with just 25 mpg this year since he averaged 25.8 with the Lakers in a tanking situation.

If Cho, Clifford, and Lin talked, and they all came away happy and on the same page, it's hard for me to believe that Lin came away happy thinking 25 mpg. Assuming a 10-man rotation for argument's sake, we know that Kemba if healthy is a lock for about 34 mpg. MKG should get around 30 (he's never averaged more than 28.9)

PG: Walker (34), Lin (14)
SG: Batum (24), Lin (16), Lamb (8)
SF: MKG (30), Batum (12), Lamb (6)
PF: Zeller (24), Williams (24)
C: Jefferson (30), Hansbrough (9), Hawes (9)

Hmmm...I'm not sure how this will all work out.

Might want to check the depth chart thread, more folks have been guessing at PT allocations in there.

At this point it's a crapshoot though.

yeah, I checked that thread but they haven't really gotten into minutes distribution (except for one person), only the depth chart.

I don't think it has been posted here, but a few days ago Lin's dad gave an interview to a Taiwanese newspaper about why Lin chose the Hornets. Here is a rough translation:

http://m.appledaily.com.tw/appledaily/article/sports/20150722/36678949

Papa Lin shared Jeremy Lin's soul-searching process to join the Hornets today. He revealed, "The key to Jeremy Lin's decision to join the Hornets was how his heart had been touched by the team's head coach, Steve Clifford, who also emphasized that Jeremy would be given his deserved minutes and the control of the ball on the court."

Papa Lin also said, "There were approximately 8-9 teams, including the Pacers, Raptors, Spurs, Mavericks and Grizzlies, that had contacted Jeremy Lin in this year's free agency. The Grizzlies had even offered a 3-year contract intending to "tie him up". But considering that the salary cap for each team would rise by a large margin in 2016-17, Jeremy Lin's agent hoped that, instead of getting tied up by the Grizzlies, he would re-enter the free agent market next summer to look for a more lucrative contract."

Sneaky Grizzlies, looks like they tried to tie up Lin and/or Mo Williams with 3 yr contracts but both escaped. Lin to the Grizzlies would have been interesting.. but it looks like he picked Hornets cus he really trusts Coach Cliff.

Lin would be a good player off the bench, but he'd also be a decent starter...

Can we ban discussion about Lin starting? Its going to get unbearable during the season, might as well set ground rules now
The Lamb flock's vision has come true.

He's not going to start unless Walker gets injured.

it really doesn't matter how Kemba's health is... even when healhty, he still shoots below 40% from the field, he is a poor defender and an average assist guy. the Hornets will never amount to something until they move past Kemba being their best player... luckily, Jordan got Kaminsky to fall on his lap, that was luck, as if the universe was desperately try to help MJ the GM, at last.

Walker isn't our best player.

Where to begin...

A) Good defender
B) Not our best player
C) Jordan isn't the GM

I didn't even bother. These Lin fan boys may end up making me do a 180 and become the biggest Walker fan on this board when it's all said and done.

A) I understand the lowered standards about what a good defender is...
B) good news, he's not. whew...
C) makes sense with the better basketball decisions happening to the team...
