IMO, this is the best offseason the Hornets can hope for. It’s ready to compete, but also filled with a bunch of young, high upside talent.

Turn DeVonte Graham sign and trade into a three-way deal where the Hornets get Markkanen.

Then flip Washington + Rozier for Myles Turner.

I could see this, but with Mason Plumlee backing up Myles and Richards being sent out as part of the deal.

The ultra deep rotation:

Melo - Ish - Riller
Oubre - Bouknight - Martin
Hayward - McDaniels - Thor
Markkanen - Bridges - Jones
Turner - Plumlee - Carey

Looks good on paper, and I'd be ok sacrificing TRo to make it happen (although our 3pt shooting from the SG position would take a hit) but I'd much rather Washington as the starting PF than Markkanen.

Could the framework of the idea remain the same but Markkanen go to the Pacers and we keep PJ?

I don't see Bridges backing up either of them but that's just me.

Yeah, you'd be trading offense for defense at the SG position, which I think is a need, but you're right that it's a significant shooting dropoff.

Fair enough - and Bridges in the starting line up at PF significantly improves our defence over PJ as well.

I'd rather have Rozier/PJ than Myles, personally.

I'd also rather see if they can trade Rozier for something of value at the deadline and not have to lose PJ in the process

I'll be honest - other than seeing him light us up for an average of 26/6/2 I don't know a hell of a lot about Oubre (other than he is a fox).

I did see he has something like a 7 foot wing span. Is he known as a good/great defender? And if so: On ball? Off ball? P&R?

I thought I saw something somewhere that questioned his BBIQ?

Like I said, I'm not saying I think one way or the other, because I really don't know.

Did a deep dive into vids, stories and advanced stats post-signing and it's a lot of up and down - he seems to be a good defender in ways (for instance, he appears near elite in deflections, and very good at defending near the rim, etc.). If you want a downside view, check out the very thorough story I linked to in the Oubre thread (with vids). WTF - here it is:

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/kelly-oubre-jr-lays-another-egg-for-warriors-who-have-few-alternatives-and-no-margin-for-error/

A sample: "To say Oubre lacks vision would be an understatement. When he's not running into stand-still defenders, he's at times literally running into his own teammates. The number of times he's wandered directly into Curry's off-ball path this season is startling. "

Solid defender. Not great and not bad, but pretty decent. Wingspan is over 7 feet I believe and with his athleticism at the 3 can be very disruptive on the ball. Has a reputation as a fairly low IQ guy which I can see as he had 73 turnovers and only 70 assist last season. All that being said he's still young, crazy athletic, and a huuuuge upgrade over a Martin, and I think there is still potential in there.

He's basically a more athletic, more experienced, way better in transition Cody Martin

I'm not crazy about the signing but if we get the Suns version then its a great signing

I know he had better stats there, so that's what I hope as well, but I remember Suns fans who noticed when he was out or Johnson was starting instead, they played better and the ball moved. That was one of the big reasons they felt they played so well in the bubble.

I do think he's a good signing as a bench player, not overly happy if he winds up a starter somehow.

Here's a fun fact:

Kelly Oubre is actually younger than the Martin twins

So isn’t there a set time today when certain transactions can commence (thought I’d heard 6PM)? Perhaps that is the point where some of these rumored convoluted deals can commence and be consummated. Waiting and hoping we make a deal for Lauri or Myles Turner. We can make these happen if the deals are not too demanding.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I would rather package a first round pick with Washington rather than Rozier.

Cody's a far better passer and about the same as a rebounder, gave us a positive net rating last year (1.0 vs Oubre's -4.6) but only played half as many minutes. Best thing about Oubre over Cody is Oubre gives us a better chance of replacing Hayward's scoring if he goes down.
