I think he will be an excellent role player, but this team would have to become top three in the east with him putting up monster numbers for him to become a perenial allstar. The only reason I don't advocate trading him for another pick is the fact that he lives here in the off season and is committed to being here and getting better.
Hendo isn't undersized at the 2. He just isn't, he's 6'5" and stronger than some 3s.
I met Gerald Henderson when he was here at Duke. He is not 6'5. I am 6'0, and he was only barely taller than me. I'll give him 6'4 reluctantly, but he seemed a whole lot closer to 6'3. JJ Reddick looked taller to me.
I'd trade Kemba before Hendo. I think he's got more upside and he's already that closest thing we've got to a "first option" on offense, while also being solid on D. I just hope he continues to get underappreciated around the league so we don't have to pay him too much in 2013 to keep him.
Kemba will not net us as much as Gerald will. There are a crap load of teams craving a defensive two. There are not many teams looking for a undersized point guard who can't shoot.
He will probably be our 3rd scoring option when the rebuild is complete but that is fine. He can be our James Harden.
If Hendo was the player Harden is I would never want to trade him. Harden is putting up better numbers as the third option on the Thunder than Hendo is as our first option.
Another reason Kemba is a better trade candidate is that Hendo is in his third year and is still less well known than Kemba. Whoever got Kemba would advertise it like a big deal because he's a (relative to Henderson) big name. We're about to get two top 5 picks, we'll have plenty of high profile talent soon enough. I think we should keep guys like Henderson who help you win games. Not that Kemba can't do that, but his high profile makes him better trade bait.
Less known by fans. Nba scouts and gm's have been tracking these kids since middle school. Trust me they all know who Gerald Henderson Jr. is.
