I know one thing - by the end of the year, he will not be the 416th best player in the NBA.

Watching him in Summer League he had that look of an all-star.... not in the flashy sense, but because he is so fundamentally solid at what he does. It was like a Spurs late first round pick.

Come to think of it, I think if the Spurs had that 30th pick instead of trading it for S-Jax they would have taken Taylor

They drafted a better version of him in Kawhi Leonard just last year. If JT is 75% of Kawhi Leonard, I am going to be a happy, happy man.

Speaking of which, anybody think Leonard is ranked inside of 100? I think so.

JT is on a rookie scale, the first two year is gauranttee and the last two are team option.

Kawhi is good. He was one of my favorites in the draft last year, but he was made to look much better than he was playing for the Spurs last season. You have to know that on that team Kawhi was the very last guy defenses zoomed in on.

I'm not really sure how they are the same player at all... could you elaborate?

Both are wing players who hit threes, defend at a high level, have good athleticism, and from what I've heard, both are glue guys.

Yeah but that's like a solid 1/5th of the guys in the NBA.

Analysts projected him as a first-round pick. So did Davidson coach Bob McKillop.

In a four-point Vanderbilt victory against Davidson last December, Taylor scored 30 points.

“He’s as sleek and as smooth an athlete as you can imagine,” McKillop says Wednesday. “He’s a slasher, he can stop and hit the 3, he can catch and shoot, he’ll sneak in and get offensive rebounds, and defensively he’s a connector.”

By connector, McKillop means Taylor can guard both guard positions as well as small forward.

I've said it before forget Shabazz, Hendo's starting job may be in trouble before the end of the season.

Taylor isn't near Henderson right now..

it won't take long to get near Hendo's level. he's not exceptional or anything. No 3pt range, ok defense, not much dribbling ability or ability to break his man down and get to the lane. He's actually very replaceable on a decent team.

Would love to see Taylor become a bruce bowen like player from the 2 position. Then if we get lucky and get Zeller to pair down low with Biyambo, we can actually start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Lol so Jeffrey Taylor goes from challenging Henderson (saw them both tonight, Taylor isn't near Henderson, not even in the same stratosphere) to one day being a Bruce Bowen type defender? I think Taylor will be a nice player, lol but come on now....

Why is that so hard for you to believe? He is a rookie. Hendo has five years of experience. We shouldn't even be having this conversation. Yet the coaches are already raving about his defensive ability and three point shooting, and he hasn't even played a game yet. Hendo has never averaged more than 15 points per game. That is not a high ceiling for a talented rookie to eclipse. Hendo is hardly DWade. If Jeff is as good as advertised he could very well be challenging Hendo by season's end.

Hendo is by no means untouchable as a starter. He has Ben Gordon and Jeffery Taylor behind him that will push him. He was the best player on the team last year, but that's not saying a whole lot. Now we have two new talented guys that could be better than him. We'll see. To discount that possibility two days into training camp is just short-sighted.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

This year is probably Hendo's greatest challenge.

I'm going off a couple things when I say Bruce Bowen style defender from the SG position.

- It's what he did in college. His college coach raves about his on ball defense.
- it's what he did in summer league. Yes i know it's summer league but his defensive aggressiveness and ability to stay tight in front of his man was impressive.
- Lastly now the coaches are talking about it, and when Dulap gives his defense the biggest compliment of all the players so far, that should say something too.

All three of these things add up to my excitement for his defensive prowess. If it was just one of those, I would not mention it, but when things start adding up like this, you have to say it's a possibility he really could be a great perimeter defender.
