I think I will probably pass on NBA2k this year, and wait till they finally fix Rebounding and remove stat caps (aka allow a player to average 5+ blocks a game if he was good enough to do so), oh and till they fix on ball D.

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
I'm 9-of-50 shooting in the last six games. Being a 6'4 PG sucks in the game when you're trying to score inside. Luckily I'm averaging 9 assists in about 22mpg. My shooting %s also suck because Doc Rivers decides he wants to play me at the 3 or 4 every now and then.
I'm adding Jordan Hill, Brook Lopez, and JR Smith to the unstoppable list. Kobe's pretty easy to defend. He jacks up about 35 shots a game and if you wave a hand in his face, he'll brick contested 20 footers. Hey, at least it's realistic.

I know that previously I said that I'm no longer playing the my player mode however I tried out being a 6'9" small forward with range (like Glen Rice) and it turned out to be really fun (I have always been playing as a center, since I love blocking shots and playing in the post). I improved his handles and passing so he would be a cross between Odom and Rice, basically Lamar Odom with range. I usually go for about 10-14 points, 7-10 rebounds, 5-7 assists, yet to crack the triple double mark though.
So being a marksman I can give you some advice. Don't force it, at the start of the season I also struggled and at times I got pissed because my percentage was so low, so I tried to shoot myself out of it and it only made matters worse. Take the shots you know you can make, but don't try too hard.
I also would advise you to learn your form perfectly. Part of the problem was the fact that I picked up this shooting motion which I struggled with, so my release wasn't always perfect. I solved the situation by buying Ray Allen's form, which I love so much, and learning it quite well.

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
my 1st experience with playing 2k series in 2 years... got on the game, immediately created my played - named silky. 6'4", 190 point guard. i was going to try to play a few practice games next, but NO the game took me straight to the rookie showcase game. i had not even looked at the controls at this point. luckily it feels like they are about the same as previous versions.
i got stuck on the team with davis, barnes, henson, and waiters. i was guarding lillard and rivers. i had 8pts, 1reb, 9ast, 1stl, 2to on 4-12 shooting. C+ rating. was drafted by the rockets with the 16th pick. i wasnt using the shot stick, sticking to the x-button. i still can't make a jumper past 15 feet. passing seems easier this year. not as many cross court passes picked by the defense. lillard had 14pts, 4reb, 7ast on 7-14 shooting against me. my team lost 71-68.
i accidentally called a nice pick and roll play once. no idea what i did. i mashed the left bumper and some symbols came up, then davis came running over to set a pick, the cut to the rim and i hit him for the easy dunk. i spent the rest of the game trying to do that again, but failed.

The type of pick and roll you play depends on how long do you hold the left bumper. If you release it immediately he is going to slip the screen quickly and cut to the basket, if you hold it a bit longer it's a pick and pop and if you hold it until the end it's the simple pick and roll.

I hate waiters in the rookie game. He always gets open but when you get him the ball he misses the bloody shot.

I put it to 12 minute games at first so you get a decent amount of time even though you are backing up.
as my time increases, I decrease the time of the quarters. makes it more enjoyable

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
I find it easier getting rebounds with my point guard than I do my centre.
I guess its still like SI said:
The player must only grab for the board when he is close to the apex of his jump or something. Annoying.
I'm definitely enjoying playing as a 3pt shooting point guard more than an athletic centre. Its also annoying that when I swap between the builds the name etc doesn't change, its who ever "my player" is at the time.
Was weird having a 7'2 athletic Hornacek.

I hate this so much. I typically like switching back and forth between a guard and a big but in this game it makes that incredibly frustrating.
In terms of quarters I always play 12 minutes for my player.

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
I'm about ready to punch things. Following the Gamecocks loss, I decided to make myself feel better and try to snap my losing streak before I sleep tonight.
Well, three games later, I've got a terrible double-digit loss against Detroit, and two BS losses to the Lakers and Blazers. The Lakers game was particularly annoying because it was probably my best game yet (28/11 with 6/9 3s) but a terrible inbounds play by Paul Pierce with the game tied at 20 seconds left, got picked off and Kobe got the last layup of his 20-something 4th quarter points. We're out of timeouts, and Rondo decides he's going to iso the crap out of the final possession, ignoring me, KG, Paul Pierce, and MKG, refuses to pass to anybody and in the end bricks a contested free-throw line floater like a half second before the buzzer right in Dwight Howard's face.
The Blazers loss hurt really bad too, KG was on fire (had the fire logo and everything), but we're down one with about three seconds left. He's wide open at about 17 feet out on the baseline, which I swear he makes 9 times out of 10 when he's not "on fire". So I get the inbounds from Pierce and immediately pass it to the wide open KG, there's nobody even close to him and he misses and we lose by one.
Sorry, just needed to vent.

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
As far as the gameplay goes, I have to say that I like the progress that has been made from the last game. Contact between players seems a lot more realistic. Per example, my guy is a lanky 6'9 forward and running into a screen by a big guy like DeJuan Blair from a bad angle can end in me falling down. The animation looks so legit that I'm not even angry about getting negative feedback for leaving the shooter open.
I also like that the press defense is finally somewhat useful as you can really make a point guard work for it rather than he can just blow by you like in the previous games. Dragic had a difficult time getting past Tony Parker, once TP made him work the whole 8 seconds to get past mid-court and once he accomplished that, stole the ball and went alone for the wide open breakaway.
The one thing that's still ridiculous is dunking in the my player mode. I mean, my vertical is close to a rating of "60", my height is 6'9" and the dude is somewhat fast and has good mobility. However, I'm approaching April and he still can't **** dunk. I mean, he should be able to put it down off one leg with one hand. I'm not even asking for anything fancy, I just want him to be able to close out a fastbreak by dunking, instead of bouncing off anyone who's in his way just because he attempts layups with no lift off his feet whatsoever. Now, I'll have to spend about three hard-earned batches of those points just to improve his dunk rating. Got it from 30 to 40 and it's still not enough.

My previous post would kind of be an answer to your question. The contact and collisions between players seem much more realistic, while the previous years they seemed to be annoying rather than realistic. You would just be in disbelief after your player chose such a crappy way to make contact when going for a layup and didn't even get the call.
Other than that I suppose both 2K12 and 2K11 are still very enjoyable.

this brings up one of my hates. I read how size makes a difference this year, bigger players will be slow and cumbersome no matter how much you try to increase their stats.
I thought I would try a big 300 pound 7'2 centre to see how it goes and what you said annoys me the most.
He keeps getting bounced around by smaller guards. I should be like Shaq bullying my way through, but instead I'm constantly bumped away from the action and out of position. really annoys me

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
what should i spend my money on? are there any categories that make more of a difference than others? should i bother spending points on things other than the point increases?
so far i havent spent any of my points. i wanted to play enough games to have a good idea of where my player needs help.
through 4 games my player is averaging 8.5ppg, 4.5apg, 2.0rpg, 60%fg in about 14 minutes. my last game i got 23 minutes and put up 13, 7 and 7.
i am having fun with this game so far.

Re: Official NBA 2K13 Thread
right now i am playing on the 2nd one (pro i think). as i mentioned earlier, i suck at 2k games. i figure i will bump it up a notch once i get used to the controls. my team (the rockets) is 4-0 so far, so maybe its time to increase the difficulty. nobody can stop kevin martin. every time i sub out of the game he scores like 20 points. when i am in the game i usually force the ball inside. patterson must love me. if asik was better i'd make him a star.
