The likelihood of this is slim to say the least, but say we get lucky and land the 3rd pick. Do you guys think Sacramento would be interested in this trade:

Al Jeff, Lance, Marvin, and the 3rd pick for Cousins, Thompson, and Landry?

We'd be really light on the wings if we did this trade, so we'd have to make another deal to balance our the roster. That would be easier said than done, but even if we struck out the big cap hike next off-season would give us the room we'd need to sign or trade for another wing.

I'd go ahead and throw Zeller and next year's 1st in there if it helped.

I still doubt Sac would move him

Jazz FAn here in peace. Jazz want your 9th pick. Can we give you teh 12th pick and take on Lance Stephanson's contract for it? Any sweetener needed?

Lance expires and since his value is at an all time low I'd rather just see if he can improve.

UNLESS one of the top FA's want to come here and reach out to us, but that ain't happening.

Agreed. The problem becomes we won't know about FA until after the draft so we don't know if we need cap room or not. I do not see using the pick to dump a contract without knowing we are going to get someone.

You don't have any pieces you would trade that can get you to 9.

I always found it annoying when people say they come in peace. As if they're going to get cussed out for asking a simple question and conversating. Just a pet peeve

Honestly I find this an interesting idea. Drop 3 spots in the draft, open up cap space (can be used for both free agents and other trades), and IMHO addition by subtraction for Cliff and some of the other players.

In all honesty I would do this trade unless someone like Hezonja fell in the draft (and assuming the Jazz and Hornets don't move up in the lottery). My reasoning is that, given the cap jump in 2016, this is the year to be aggressive in the FA & trade markets. Trade gives the team the ability to do that.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Trade a 9 million dollar expiring contract to move back in the draft? Right...

His expiring is basically worthless since every team in the league will have substantial cap room in 2016.

I'd do 9th and a tightly protected 2017 1st for 12th and Rodney Hood, but I'm not sure whether you would. Take Brian Roberts+Marvin instead of Lance.

His expiring is basically worthless since every team in the league will have substantial cap room in 2016.

But contracts will also be larger. $9M will be like 10% of the cap, nothing to sneeze at. That's like $6M under the current regime.

Kind of beside the point though because the point remains that it doesn't make sense to move down just to dump an expiring.

I'd rather trade completely out of the draft than move down. I'd actually rather trade out completely period. Just not sure for whom yet.

Ah, good point. I still don't like it but I can see where you are coming from.

If we're going to attach the 9th to an expiring contract I definitely want a long term piece coming back. It will be interesting to see how the draft plays out because there is definitely no guarantee that whoever we end up drafting will suit up as a Hornet. A lot of teams will be interested in Johnson and WCS, the question is what would they be willing to give up to get them?

I think you will hear Boston calling trying to move up come draft time.

Not sure what pieces Ainge will be offering though but it's been reported multiple times he wants to move up.

Just posted this in our prospects thread, looks like it would've been better to post it here:

CHA: Roberts, #9, 2015 2nd
BOS: Olynyk, #16, #28

With #16, take FO's choice of PGs left on the board - Jerian Grant, Cam Payne, or Tyus Jones.
With #28, take FO's choice of wings left on the board - Justin Anderson, Tyler Harvey, Aleksandar Vezenkov, Anthony Brown, etc.

Boston gets to move up, we get to bring on a nice PG prospect and improved big depth while still being able to take a chance on a shooter. Can't imagine BOS will be too excited about Roberts with Thomas, Smart, and Pressey already on the roster, but Roberts is expiring so maybe they'd think it's worth it to move up.

Thoughts?

I would wonder if Olynyk alone is enough to move up 7 spots...
