The Hornets got their version of Jalen Suggs for the low cost of 2 second rounders. This is the kind of opportunistic pickup made just by being aware of the situation other teams are in. Dallas being absolutely strapped means they had to give up someone they probably rather wouldn't have.

If it's one thing that always drove me nuts about the pre-Peterson/Schnall era, it was that the Hornets weren't good at scouting other teams. Also, I think I'm starting to realize when this org likes someone, they zero in hard. Pretty happy with this pickup -- adding a starter without giving up a FRP or a player is good business.

Josh Green fits the Archetype that I think many have wanted from a player between Melo/Miller. Aggressive defender with size that is a good catch and shoot guy.

Reality though...
Josh Green is a career 37.5% from 3, including shooting 40% and 38.5% over the past two years so I think that will be a good fit.
66% of his career 3s have been shot from the corner where he makes 38%. Offensively he was a 48% off epm. My worry is will he get the same level of open shots playing without Luka who is the best offensive orchestrator in the game.

Defensively is where I am bit more worried after looking into him a bit deeper. He is really low Stocks guy. 0.8 steals+blocks per game for his career... most really strong defenders have better metrics there. Secondly, his EPM scores this year also point to him being really overrated as a defender at 13%.

Regardless I think this is a good risk. If it works out we will look really smart, if it doesn't he still provides a guy that is a high effort defender and could be a long-term Cody Martin replacement.

Josh Green is the same age as board favorite Dalton Knecht, by the way, if we want to talk about potential.

Josh to me looks like he can handle the fastest scorers in the NBA, it's the bigger and stronger ones he has trouble with defensively. This at least (and a healthy Cody Martin) saves LaMelo from Ding-up against primary options at the guard spots. If they do trade for Terance Mann then same thing for Brandon against scoring wings.

Josh had a very good showing tonight against an admittedly poor Chinese team. In the first half he was picking up the Chinese guards full court and half court and generated a lot of turnovers and some deflections. He was giving them fits defensively.

China resorted to running screens in the back court as the game went on to negate the pressure he was putting on their lead guards as a point of attack defender. He does get a bit hyper-focused at times on the ball and can get lost on screens

He also showed some nice bounce offensively and made a very nice pass to Jock Landale.

He's exactly what we're needing at SG.

I don't want to big it up too much as China was very poor but he looked very good and he'll definitely be on the plane to Paris.

Australia will be a very good defensive team, but I think we'll struggle to generate enough offense to medal.

I really love the he's a hornet now. He's the type of player we need and was brought up back in the original trade talks for pj and we got him almost for free. This is a rare win for us. He fits a position of need can shoot, defend, and is only 23. There's alot to like. Now that miles is back thr 4 is solidified, Miller moves to the 3 and Green and Mann hold down the 2 spot.

ESPN gives Hornets a B+ on Josh Green trade. I give the Josh Green trade an A.
I like Green as a value pickup for the Hornets in exchange for a second-round pick that's almost certain to fall at the end of the draft. He's just starting a three-year, $41 million extension signed ahead of possible restricted free agency next summer. That pays him less than the non-taxpayer midlevel exception over that span and takes him through age 26.

In Dallas, Green always had to deal with the specter of the wings the Mavericks passed on to draft him No. 18 in 2020: first fast-starting Saddiq Bey, then later TCU product Desmond Bane. Several years younger than both of them, Green has slowly progressed into the 3-and-D wing Dallas envisioned. He has shot 39% from 3s over the past two seasons and is capable of credibly guarding all three perimeter positions and some smaller power forwards.

The latter skill should come in especially handy for the Hornets, the 29th-ranked defense on a per-possession basis last season. Green would fit well alongside former No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller, giving Miller room to operate on offense and taking the toughest defensive assignments off his plate.

On what his Australian teammates Joe Ingles and Dellavedova have told him about Charles Lee after playing for him in Milwaukee...

“Joe is not a man of many words, but he definitely loved Coach Lee in Milwaukee. He thought he was an amazing coach and he’s very happy that I’ll be able to play under him.”

On what ex-teammate Grant Williams has told him about Charlotte...

“Grant was actually probably one of the first people to call me. He’s super excited. He said it’s a great culture and super fun to be a part of. He said he’s been having the time of his life. He’s super happy. I’m really looking forward to it and looking forward to seeing Grant again. They’ve said nothing but positive things.”

Love seeing these reports. Grant Williams seems to have found a home, back at HIS hometown. He’s reaching out to players, inserting himself and championing the new culture. Green can be an important part of what we become.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Officially concerned. The kid doesn’t know how to shoot an open 3. Runs around like a chicken with his head cut off.

Olympics stats: 37 minutes , ZERO, yes, I repeat, ZERO points, 0-5 from the field, more fouls than shot attempts.

if he is having a subpar olympics remind yourself he is a 37% career 3 pt shooter

And that other than LaMelo the other Hornets guards are 6'0-6'3 so the team needs his size on the perimeter

and that only Cody Martin offers similar on ball defense

This team needs more two way players with positional size and versatility like Josh Green imo

His defense has been good. Small sample size alert.

This has to mean we're getting rid of some of our guards. We have like.... 7 of them?

My guess? Micic

Blasphemy sir! Micic is solid solid solid …. Maybe he’s our 4th guard behind Ball, Green and Mann…. Nick Smith is till too poor of a finisher.

I think Mann and Micic will battle for the 3rd spot. Green is a very, very good defender and does intangibles that doesn't show on a box score.

We have plenty of room for all of LaMelo, Micic, Mann, Green. Given LaMelo has injury issues it's good to have that extra depth. When healthy I don't think any of the other guys are necessarily more than 20-24mpg and Green can play SF as well. NSJ is the one getting squeezed out of the rotation
