Geez Liver, you are FOREVER defending this guy, and forever saying that all it takes is practice. I wish people would quit treating him like teflon, same as the president...nothing negative sticks. MKG is NOT a good player, and may never get to a point when he will be an effective shooter in the NBA. His minutes are woefully down as is his production. If he hit a "rookie wall", I'd say he's rested enough to be over that by now. Problem is, hyphen is just not very good. Again, that doesn't mean he will not improve, cause I know he will. BUT...very few players in this league are able to go from s*#* to shinola, much less all-star status, when their first year exhibits this much of an issue with their shooting. Yes, he's too young to call a bust, and I'm not saying that. But please, let's at least be realistic about the kid. Early returns suggest he will be an average contributor (at best) on offense, and that's a shame considering he was the #2 pick.

MKG is a good player. He is not the player that you wish he was. He is what he is. He is not Glen Rice. He is a less athletic but smarter version of Gerald Wallace. Is that a classic number 2 pick? Of course not, but in last year's draft that was the best available pick. He may never be a great shooter, but an nba small forward does not have to be a great shooter. He just has to get his shot respectable. That is the gap that you are over looking. He plays strong defense as a 19 year old rookie. He will get better. He gets to the rim almost at will. He will get better. He makes passes like a veteren. He will get better. To put it in perspective to appreciate MKG you can't think of him in terms of the player he is now and where he was drafted. To appreciate MKG you have to think of him in terms of the player he will be at 26. Which is seven years from now. Seven years! Do you really think that he will still be shooting as poorly as now in seven years? Seven years ago MKG was only 12.

Average contributer on offense? Maybe. But the great players all turn defense into offense.

i think we have like 3 alleyoops all season. kemba and sessions arent giving the ball up on the fast break to anyone.

I think I know the cause of MKG's struggles. MJ's probably Kwame Browning the $h!t out of him.

Doubt it...Jordan's a dick but he knows better than to down talk his own rookies

MKG Believer/Hater Thread

Post#845 » by JMAC3 » Sat Feb 16, 2013 5:50 am

With everyone giving up on MKG lately because he has had a somewhat disappointing first half to his rookie season. I figured we needed to make a thread where his haters can come in and simply say they do not think he will be good, will never fix his shot, only a role player, over drafted, wasted pick, or they just dont like him.

The point of this thread is to not let people off the hook when MKG shows major improvement next year, and then everyone who hates on him now can act like they never had doubts. Tons of people hated Kemba last year and thought he would never amount to anything, but sure is funny how everybody loves him now and never doubted him.

This is just to have a written record of his believers and non-believers, so we know who will be eating crow. So simply come in and write no more then a sentence or two, You only get one comment in this thread, so no flip flopping.

Be a man and do not sit on the fence, pick a side.

BELIEVER meaning he will be one our best players , top 5 in his draft class, and future all-star talent.

Thank you. MKG will be just fine.

Except for being an extreme overreactor, there's no real problem in not being a believer in him.

I am a full believer in MKG.

I think he was a bit of a reach, I wanted Drummond via trade down. I do think he'll develop a competent jumpshot and that he is probably a top 5 pick, definitely a top 10. I like his chances of being a star/borderline All-Star.

I can understand fans being a little restless, I said the same thing about Kemba last season and he is fine now, the only problem with it is that the pessimists tend to piss on the optimists and when players pan out, shut the **** up and pretend they were believers the whole time! If the bust, we never hear the end of it.

We suck, we are drafting winners...It'll take some time for them to adjust.

I think the biggest problem is that on teams as bad as ours it takes a Kemba/Sessions/Gordon alpha type to have the "gonna get mine, no matter what" mentality, guys like Gerald and Gilly are the "gonna do what needs to be done, to win" mentality.

Players with Gilchrist's mentality are like glue with nothing to stick to!

I think the problem lately is that our "super fan stans" have been pretty silent! Where you at Stun! We also really need a dose of the Jaruff stone cold reality right now.

This is the single biggest reason I'm unfazed by MKG's struggles this year, apart of course from the fact that he is freaking 19 years old. Kemba was a champion in college and took time to adjust. I honestly don't see why it should be any different with MKG. I think since he's younger, he'll take a little longer and may not break out until the 2014-15 season. For me, it's a matter of when he'll break out, not if.

Did anybody listen to the podcasts TBJ had over the all-star weekend? I don't remember which particular one it was, however, they did mention MKG having a tough time during the media sessions. Apparently some female journalist wanted him to read some slogan or something of a piece of paper that would reference the company she works for and he had the toughest time doing it. He kept mumbling and screwing up and the whole thing seemed to take long, was unnecessary and annoying that Skeets (one of the TBJ guys) almost wanted to step in since he felt bad for MKG.

I can't watch any videos of him doing anything with the media until hes alot better. It just puts a damper on my entire day and makes me feel horrible for him.
