i think the biggest strength of a Zeller/Vonleh lineup is that one should be able to drive past their opponent, Zeller with his speed and Vonleh with his skills

@SteveReedAP
Clifford believes Vonleh can build his game around rebounding. Reiterates that he is very young, has a ways to go.

Lol, I'm gonna need one of Fats' Clifford-isms in regard to Vonleh still having "a ways to go."

[Clifford on why Vonleh only played 23 minutes in the meaningless last game of the season, instead of the 30+ that was mentioned a few days earlier]

"Well, um, you know... Look, Noah is a good kid. I wish I could have played him more minutes, you know. I had planned to play him about 30 minutes last night, but, um, you know, Noah missed the first 5 minutes of the early morning shoot-around yesterday because, um, he had to get his ankle re-taped. Look in this league, and Al and Marvin will tell you, in this league, you know, having taped ankles is important and um, so are those morning shoot-arounds. Noah was only able to get up about 200 shots yesterday morning, instead of the 215 or so that we had planned for him. You know, Its really hard to get heavy minutes when you only get 200 shots in morning shoot-around. Look, Noah is going to get his minutes eventually. In two or three years after Jason, Marvin and Al have retired, he should be ready."

I feel like it's still too early to be certain Vonleh will be really good, but I do like what we've seen so far. I especially like the fact that even though he can shoot it from deep he's not afraid to mix it up down low and get knocked around in the paint. A lot of stretch bigs are allergic to contact, Vonleh seems to be fine with it and I think that's a great sign. The footwork on his spin move into the middle of the lane seems very advanced as well, and he manufactures quality shots using it. Bricked a bunch of them in a Biz-esque manner, but still, he's getting the looks and hopefully he can start finishing better in years to come. Also think he's got decent vision for a big man. I remember a couple bad turnovers where he didn't see defenders when trying to kick it out to the perimeter, but at least he's not just getting the ball with tunnel vision like most young bigs. Seems to get at least a few points per game just be crashing the boards, I want to see him play with MKG just to see the havoc those two would wreak on the offensive glass.

Lots to like about Vonleh. He better be getting 15-20mpg next year, the potential is obvious.

Anyone on the Suns roster/picks than interests you guys for a Noah Vonleh trade?

I think a Marvin/Vonleh trade would have to be made salary wise since the Suns wouldn't take back Lance

fit wise the Morris Twins, especially Kieff, would be a good fit

they would win you guys a lot more games, especially in the East

what do you guys think?

No thanks. I do not think there is an easy trade for Vonleh due to his lack of playing time and high ceiling.

I understand completely

How about

Bledsoe for Vonleh/9th pick/filler?

Value wise I think that's pretty fair

Nah. Bledsoe would shoot below 40/30/80 here and isn't even a true PG. If he was a great shooter and had no injury concerns, he would be a great two-guard, but those are major problems for him. I don't trade Vonleh for him straight up.

Yeah Phoenix is also short what we really need. If we give up that much we have to have a high level starting SG coming back.

I don't know about that, I like Vonleh and am high on him but I've always been a big Bledsoe fan and I'd love to plug him in at SG. I'd think about it.

I'm a bit of a Bledsoe fanboy though.

Cripes, I was only joking yesterday when I said Clifford's plan was big guy grab rebounds.

Can we aim a little higher than rebounding???

So we want Zeller to concentrate on his 3 point shot and the PF that can already do that to build his game around something else...

I can picture cliffy hitting the pipe with J.R.

he doesn't like Noah, building your game around rebounding basically sounds like "you should be a garbage man" like Reggie Evans or something

Cliff said Vonleh is already a really solid rebounder and that can earn him PT now. He gave the guy a compliment and you guys are ripping him. What'd you expect him to say?

Noah was a great rebounder in every limited oppportunity he got this season and it still didn't earn him PT over Jason freaking Maxiell...

It's so nice of clifford to say this AFTER our season is completed.

Clifford is full of ****

That was at best a backhanded complement. The safest route would simply to have been more generic. What Cliff does with those kinds of statements is make himself look bad because he seems to over focus on one or two things. If all Vonleh did this year was work on rebounding while not getting even 5 min a game, then Cliff effectively stunted Vonleh's growth and increased the odds that the young man will be a bust. Now I *hope* that the staff really did work on more than just Vonleh's rebounding, but Cliff sure didn't make it sound like that.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

It's really amazing considering he was one of the most productive rebounders in the entire NCAA a frosh.

Obviously needs to work on it...
