We did not pick this guy over Shaq or whatever. He is 19. Give it time.

No, but we did pick him over Clingan who fit BPA and a need given our C rotation. I won’t live that down unless Salaun happens to break out and is still on this roster when it happens.

I'm not of the belief that we'd be better off with 2 injury prone centers in our rotation. One is enough for me.
And Clingan isn't exactly lighting the world on fire for his own poor team. He's barely in their rotation.
But in any event, the narrative by a lot of folks critical of picking Salaun was he has no skills / doesn't know how to play the game of basketball / is a complete project with nothing to contribute. I think that has definitively been disproven, his defense is more than serviceable, he knows how to space / fill lanes, and he helps on the boards. He definitely has his moments where he looks out of sorts and has a long ways to go to be a consistent creator off the dribble, but he looks like he knows where to be on the floor.

Doesn't matter, Clingan would be scoring 20 and grabbing 20 boards for us. Ignore his 3 4 pt/5 rebound games in the last week.

Buzelis was the clear pick. Hoping for the best however. He’s young

Yes, thanks for your unbiased opinion on the matter.
The guy shooting 40% from 2 and 32% from 3 while averaging 4.7 ppg. Future star.
42% at the rim too, which is bottom 1% in the league
2.9 ppg over Bulls last 10 games, dude is catching fire!!!

Most of these are improvements on Salaun, let’s not forget.

yeah, Salaun is looking like a massive flop, but Buzelis isn't the dude I'd lose sleep missing out on

The only thing he has proven is that he isn't a rotation player or anything close.
He has some good things you can't teach, but unfortunatly he doesn't have a lot of things you can teach, like skills. He is not an nba level ball handler, every time he puts the ball on the floor is a new adventure. He is not an nba level passer. He rebounds ok but not at a level that is going to impact the game. He is not an impact defensive player.
I hope he turns it around, but there is no reason to think he will. The percent chance that he will be a complete bust is practically 100%. His stats are very simmilar to 19 year old Killian Hayes. It is very hard to not be a bust at 19 years old in the nba unless you are very good.

The numbers would say otherwise.
76% DEF EPM, which is tied with Ryan Dunn among rookies for the best.
That doesn't just happen by chance.
Also, 8 rebounds per 36 is pretty strong for a non-center.
Passing wise he is fine, his assist rate is higher than Knecht, Matas, Holland, Risacher, Edey.
His turnover % is basically league average.
The finishing, shot creation stuff is lacking but 55% at the rim is workable.
Matas is shooting 42% at the rim.
He is going to be one of our better shooters by year 3. The form is there, the volume is there, the confidence is there.
He is going to finish the year top 10 in 3pa and 3pm among this rookie class.
Most 19 yr old NBA players aren't good outside shooters.

All this tells me is your eye test and mine are radically different, and that you are ignoring any statistical support that suggests he has some skills that he's showing.

Yall are just talking about what you hope he can become. He is one of the wost players in the league. Giving him 19 min a game is a big part of why our record is so terrible.

One of us is showing stats, which is what he is now. Not what he is going to become.
The other is just spouting off random stuff with no tangible numbers other than you think he stinks.

Maybe writing a kid off in his rookie year's a little premature?

I will be genuinely floored if this city sees a second Bryce Young turnaround.
That's not a fair comparison for Bryce though since he was actually good at football in college.

Re: Eye of the Tiger: The Tidjane Salaun Thread
Salaun has shown good defence, good energy and can hit the open 3.
the team is hoping for more, encouraging him to remain aggressive and try stuff.
but i think at least you have a rotation 3 n D player.. if they were trying to win now, you would give salaun strict instructions to not try anything but play his role and he would be fine.

I really don't mind Okogie and Jeffries eating into his minutes honestly, despite both being really short forwards. Salaun is just so in over his head.

Come for the atrocious, clumsy footwork, stay for the dismayed Charles Lee finally realizing what we all have realized for a while now.

Peterson must feel even more dismayed. Feel bad for him. Salaün is one of the most uncoordinated prospects we've seen since JT Thor. It gets no better on the offensive end.
It has been written...
