Now guess these three rookies seasons.

Nobody bothered to guess, so before I forget who they were actually supposed to be, they were Paul George, Wesley Johnson, and Evan Turner' rookie seasons.

MKG blows all three out of the water. Stop worrying, people.

Johnson sucks. So comparing to him isn't going to argue much of anything. Turner is not doing very well either. George is a good guy to compare to, because he clearly turned out well and that's what we are hoping for with MKG.

So digging in a bit:

Code: Select all

George:
.542 TS%  / .505 eFG%   /   9.8 TRB%  /   8.3 AST%  /  2.5 STL%   /  1.5 BLK%  /  13.7 TOV%

MKG:
.508 TS%  / .455 eFG%   /  12.5 TRB%  /  10.7 AST%  /  1.5 STL%   /  3.2 BLK%  /  13.9 TOV%

Well, the story it tells is one we already knew. MKG is having a good impact, except he can't shoot a lick.

This was why I loved/hated him in the draft. If he learns to shoot he's going to be outstanding... likely a multiple all-star. If he doesn't learn to shoot he's going to be a role player and and have to come off the bench if he's on a good team.

MKG is an extremely valuable player despite his hideous jumpshot.

He would start for a lot of contenders even if his jumpshot never improved a lick.

If you could rewind and redo the 2012 draft, would you take Beal over MKG?

I think right now Beal has more trade value. I mean he's 19 and hit over 50% of his threes for an entire month. That's hard to do. It's hard for me to justify MKG over him. He just came on too late and Jordan didn't want to gamble I guess, maybe seduced by Hendo. I dunno.

I'd still rather have MKG.

hmm. I think if you offered him straight up for Beal their front office would belt out in laughter to be honest.

Beal is the new flavor of the month I see. I think most of us would rather have MKG

I don't think "Trade Value" is a good means of determining who you'd rather have. Beal scores better (which is not a revelation of any kind), but MKG is pretty much equal or better in every other category (Ok, I'll give Beal a slight edge in assists too).

Burst into laughter? I doubt it, but they wouldn't do it. Not because Beal > MKG, but because they wanted Beal from the beginning. To them Beal was the BPA, like MKG was for us. I remember saying last year that, even if we didn't want Beal, we should keep up a facade that we would take him at number 2 just to see if we could get a team to bite on a trade.

So would I. I think I'd rather have Muhammad, Oladipo, or McLemore over Beal to be honest.

Well I like McLemore more than Beal so passing on him will be an easier pill to swallow if we draft McLemore. Then it comes down to MKG vs. the top SF in the 2013 draft. That's really no contest for me. I'd take MKG over any of them. He needs to learn how to shoot the basketball though. He doesn't have to shoot like Beal but when you pass on a guy who can drill over 50% of his shots from 3 over 2 months and he's only 19? You get that sinking feeling in your gut.

I'd rather have MKG. Don't think you could go wrong with Beal though so it's a fair argument. I have faith that MKG can impact the game in more ways than Beal.

Beal can be a 18-22 point player with good defense and no real weaknesses, but MKG has the potential to be an elite defender and rebounder for his position while also adding some point forward ability. He should also be able to easily develop into a 15+ ppg guy.

People get so hung up on his ugly jumper that they forget he has the potential to add so much production in a number of categories that it doesn't matter if he's not a 20+ scorer on a nightly basis.

Ill up you and say 4 years from now 20 ppg and everything you stated. I honestly believe he will get that jumper to modest status.

But I also want us to draft Victor Oladipo, so..... Yeah.

MKG's peak numbers: 19/10/4.5/2s/1.5b on 47% with prime Wallace defense. Shawn Marion type stuff.

MKG is another in a long line of busts this team has picked...... you guys like setting yourselves up for failure by continuing to deny that this kid is nothing more than a role player. And i would take Beal over him in a hot second and wouldnt look back. Im so tired of the excuses for this kid, he's not a franchise player, or a star he's a role player thats what he is what he was and what he will always be.
