I say we offer them a second round pick if they decide in the first 12 hours.

Signing Hayward to an offer sheet was so unwise. Now we're stuck sitting around 3 days or more waiting on Utah to inevitably match the deal. We'll be sitting around twiddling our thumbs while the rest of the league is snatching up good players that we should be dealing with.

Better than trading it for cash.

But wouldn't that be the case with any RFA

They will match. The luxury tax threshold will be like 80 million in 2017/2018. Hayward and Favors only would make up 29 of that. Exum will still be on his rookie deal that year. There is also the stretch provision under the new CBA the Jazz can use in that last year if the contract interferes with things.

I think Michael Kidd Gilchrist and a future first would be enough to let him walk. But more than likely Jordan will just take the money and give it to Lance. He might not be available in 4 days though.

We'll if they match we would be eternally grateful if they did it at 12:02. Obviously they won't because we jammed them up

They won't do Cho any favors trust me. They have a history with him when he was running Portland and offered a toxic deal to Millsap. The Jazz were able to keep Millsap, but the Miller's had to take out a loan, ultimately, it ended up being a wise choice.

Well we had better get Lance Stephenson down here as soon as possible and get him to verbally agree to a contract now regardless of whether Hayward signs or not. Finding a taker for Henderson+Zeller or Henderson+Neal+pair of 2nds should not be hard at all given what some of these fools have been signing scrubs for. And if Hayward is in fact matched, then we've got the cap space anyway. He can agree in principle, just like any players who agreed in principle to a contract between July 1st and today.

How do we know he knows everything? For all we know he's the Utah Jazz version of Bonnell

Yeah we'd probably end up doing that anyway, so Utah, you want a free pick?

Yes. But unless you believe there is a real chance that Utah is going to let Hayward go, why sign him? I guess Cho thinks that is a possibility. But every reporter/Jazz fan/Hornets fan out there is saying it isn't happening. So us signing him is puzzling to me. I don't see how we benefit unless Utah does what everyone and their brother is saying they won't do.

I agree that it would be dumb for them to match, but it was dumb that we even offered it in the first place.

Hopefully Zeller or Vonleh can play that stretch four role for us going forward.

It's only dumb because we are handcuffed for 3 days. You're not going to acquire someone like Hayward as a RFA without overpaying.

It's dumb because Hayward has not proven that he is anywhere near worth what we offered him.

I don't want Lance, but at least he has proven that he can be an integral piece on a successful team.

What's the play here when we don't get any of the big targets?

Well yeah if you don't like as a player then yes offering him a contract would be dumb, clearly.

Rodney Stuckey, Marvin Williams, and Brian Roberts.

Are we seriously considering Stuckey?

Goodness, this has turned into a terrible FA period.

No, I just threw his name in there.
