Is there a curse when it comes to wearing a Hornets jersey and shooting poorly? Surely not, right? Across different roster constructions, player acquisitions, records and coaching philosophies, surely not.

Let's take a look at where this team has ranked in FG% by year (it's actually hilarious).

2024-25 30th
2023-24 26th
2022-23 29th
2021-22 11th
2020-21 22nd
2019-20 30th
2018-19 26th
2017-18 24th
2016-17 26th
2015-16 27th; Playoffs 13th
2014-15 29th
2013-14 25th; Playoffs 9th
2012-13 30th
2011-12 30th
2010-11 22nd
2009-10 22nd; Playoffs 9th
2008-09 18th
2007-08 17th
2006-07 25th
2005-06 30th
2004-05 27th

So, since the Bobcats part of the Hornets franchise was created, among team FG% rankings it's ranked:

- last 5 times
- 25th or worse 12 times
- in the top half of the league once.

Ranked in the top two-thirds of the league in shooting a whopping THREE times in 20 years. That means you're 21st or better. Happened once in the last 16 seasons. Other than 2021-22, the last time this franchise was only one of the 20 best shooting teams in the league...

DJ Augustin and Alexis Ajinca were rookies.

The crazy thing is, as bad as we have been at shooting threes recently, there are still 11 teams in the league that have a lower three point percentage for the year than we do. Now granted most of them aren't stupid to take as many threes as we do. We are ranked 27th though in true shooting percentage.

Majority of those minutes were against the best team in basketball vs Cleveland.
The other 2 are vs a fully healthy Suns team and Sixers were PG and Maxey combined for 73 pts.

was simply posting, no context. something to keep An eye on now that we finally have our supposed five starters playing. I am curious to see if Lee would ever consider moving Cody in the starting lineup in place of green. I think it's important to note that Cody seems to be the preferred option in the closing lineup with the other four. That makes sense since I think Cody gives you more versatility. I think Lee likes having Cody out there with the bench unit. If this starting five continues to struggle I'm curious if he would ever make that switch. It's not like they're going to change out the other four.
But I wouldn't consider changing anything until he gets to see this group at least play 10 games together. Which in itself would be a miracle if those five could all play 10 straight games or even maybe 10 out of the next 15 if they decide to rest some guys on back to backs.

Our DRTG on the season is ranked 17th. We haven't finished with a defensive rating that high in the last 3 seasons.

I'm also encouraged that we are picking up our pace. For most of the season we were like bottom 3 in pace, and right now on the season we are still ranked 23rd. In the last 10 games we are ranked 15th.

In our last 15 games, our DRTG is 7th in the league. Feels like a monumental achievement, particularly in light of the fact that we've upped our pace to 10th over the same time period.

even though Mark is getting owned by opposing bigs in certain matchups (Vuc and Gafford in particular), the fact is that Mark's presence alone in the paint is an absolute game changer. Nobody is scared of Nick Richards

I like Lee stealing the concept from the Celtics of having Mark guarding a non-center non-shooter and just having him roam and protect the paint in drop. Helps force favorable cross matches in transition and also helps with rim protection. Extremely rare that bigs just go to the block and get fed post ISOs and they often struggle with swarming defenses. Seemed like that got to Gaffford in the second half.

I was starting to lose my mind about this. I don't know how its even possible to have went like 1/3 of the season playing a bottom 10 pace with LaMelo healthy.

To think the guy at the top of the main list was a Hornet for a few minutes.
