For some reason I think trob will be a hustle player with a good midrange j but won't be much of a threat scoring on the block.

If we trade down and get an extra pick is anyone interested in a guy like pj3?

I think people more fall in love with a 6'11" dude who is coordinated and doesn't fall over himself when he runs than any real star potential.

I don't want to trade down because I want to be sure we get T-Rob but I'd throw everythign except Kemba nd Biz to get Pj3 on this team, I feel that there will be 3 Franchise players from this draft, AD, T-Rob and PJ3

My thinking would be take a sg like lamb and put pj3 at the 4. We would be pretty long with those 2 and biz. Pj3 needs quite a bit of coaching but he has the potential to be a vital cog.

Fraschilla had some interesting things to say about him today. He says his motor is fine but he wants to be a sf in the mold of a Rudy gay. Fran told him that he is a 4 and he needs to embrace playing in the paint. If he comes into the league with that mindset he can be a very dangerous player. I am interested to see how he interviews.

CHALLENGE FOR DRAFTNIKS

This is only the second year that I've paid really close attention to the draft, so I'm deferring to the expertise of some of you that have been at this longer than I have. I'm tired of hearing about how prospects compare to NBA players as the NBAers are NOW. I care more about how the top prospects compare to NBA players when they were prospects. I think it's absurd to criticize an 18 year old for not having talent comparable to a veteran, like: "Beal doesn't have Wade's penetration," well, did Wade even have Wade's penetration when he came into the league? It seems like every season the "experts" dismiss a draft as being weak, and then we see several break-out players from all over the draft board. This may be confusing but, basically: What NBA players do this year's top prospects most closely resemble at this point in their careers? (eg: when they were prospects). Still confusing, so I'll just throw out an example that may be completely off but maybe it'll make more sense.

Fake Example 1: Instead of comparing Beal to Allen, he seems more like an Eric Gordon when Gordon was coming out of college.
Fake Example 2: Instead of Howard, Drummond seems more like Andrew Bynum when he first declared for the draft.

Those may be off but maybe it makes more sense? I think comparing the prospects to guys when they were first coming out makes more sense than comparing them to vets...and maybe it'll give us a better idea of what they'll develop into. Just a thought. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to find apropos comparisons for the top prospects, and any other you wish to include. Good luck.

Sure. I'll also put my veteran comparison in parenthesis.

Barnes: Marco Belinelli (Calbert Cheaney)
Beal: Ben Gordon (Eddie Jones)
Drummond: Bynum (Samuel Dalembert) - I feel Bynum would have put up Drummond numbers had he went to college instead of the pros.
Gilchrist: Josh Childress (Shane Battier)
Jeremy Lamb: Wayne Ellington (Marcus Thornton)
Perry Jones: Renaldo Balkman (Al Harrington)
Lillard: Rodney Stuckey (Rodney Stuckey)
Marshall: Marcus Williams - UCONN (Eric Snow)
Robinson: Ike Diogu (David West)
Sullinger: Shelden Williams mixed with Charlie Villanueva (Zach Randolph)

John Henson - Hakim Warrick

Jaruff, PJIII has more talent in his little toe than Balkman has in his whole body, now I will give you that Balkman is a helluva hustle player. When I went to the Knicks game last year he was out an hour to an hour and half before anybody else working on his jump shot. His work ethic and heart can never be questioned.

Balkman had talent coming out. He lacked a true position. Perry Jones has the same issue. HS Rashard Lewis would have been a better comparison for Jones but that's going back a bit far. Maybe Bostjan Nachbar but that's also going back pretty far. Perry has skills but I don't have confidence he can apply them well.

Terrence Jones faces the same problem but I think he'll have a much better NBA career.

I agree wholeheartedly with your premise. I'm gonna limit myself to current players.

Barnes: Caron Butler/Luol Deng/Martell Webster* (this one is tough, nobody with comparable game and falling stock is really playing right now)
Beal: Chris Duhon/Wesley Matthews/Michael Redd
Drummond: Dwight Howard*/Andrew Bynum*/Jeremy Tyler/Derrick Favors
Gilchrist: Corey Brewer/Jeff Greene/Tyreke Evans (if he played SF)
JLamb: Josh Childress/Nick Young/
PJones: Al Farouq Aminu/LaMarcus Aldridge/Charlie Villanueva
Lillard:
Marshall: Greivis Vasquez/
Robinson:
Sullinger:

I give up.

I bet he'll be a hall of famer. Motor is the most important thing, and it's why Balkman makes the big bucks, you know.

So the two of you think everyone in the top 10 are going to be All-Star caliber players? Starting caliber players? No. It doesn't work that way. Let's break down the top 10 since 2007.

2007 - One Franchise Player, Three Good Players, Three Decent Players, Three Busts
2008 - Three Franchise Players, Three Good Players, Three Decent Players, One Bust
2009 - Three Franchise Players, Four Good Players, One Decent Player, Two Busts
2010 - Three Franchise Players, Four Decent Players, Three Busts
2011 - One Franchise Player, Three Good Players, Four Decent Players, Two Busts

Besides, the guy who posed the question asked:

Fake Example 1: Instead of comparing Beal to Allen, he seems more like an Eric Gordon when Gordon was coming out of college.

I'm sure Stun had a problem with me comparing the next "great thing" (Robinson) to a guy who didn't make it. Look at the college tape. Similar players. Actually, I'd argue Diogu had more talent coming out. At least I'm keeping my hopes realistic when several of these guys don't live up to their All-Star player comparisons. And they won't because a good portion of them never do.
