There is a good chance nobody else is going to offer big money. I would offer him 15 like PJ got and just see what happens.

That's the same as telling him you don't want him back. Aint no way he's taking $15m and it would surely be an insult. Offer should be $25m if we're doing that and don't be surprised if he gets more. Fans ALWAYS under go under what the expected contract is in these discussions. Just expect something much higher than you think every time for every guy. It's like 90% of the time it works out that way.

fatlever wrote:i dunno. it's just a hunch. maybe the new onwers/new gm just aren't that keen on miles as a person due to his off court issues? or don't see upside in a guy with declining athleticism as a 3rd guy in the offense making 30 mil? or maybe they just want more flexibility? maybe they want him at 20-25mil but are't willing to go to 30? or maybe they view miles as part of the culture problem? i really have no idea.
like i said, just a hunch.
personally, i'd bring him back and operate as cap team like jmac mentioned. we can always move him later, if needed.
I think the fan community has one sense around "off the court issues" and the ownership and management group has another. They know a lot more than we do and I expect it to not really be a factor in their thinking. They're going to decide from a basketball perspective, as they should.

I don't think this ownership group is going to accept losing Miles for nothing. They'll either sign him to a contract he's happy with or execute a sign and trade with another team that can return us some actual value (like the Jazz).

Why trade for something you can sign for free?
I was thinking sign n trades are only options for teams who can't afford to sign him outright?

LMAO
Good luck with that. No disrespect to PJ, but Miles is clearly more talented as a player.
His agent Rich Paul will get him the best deal available. 15mil is a slap in the face in today's market for a 20ppg scorer just entering his prime.

Well if anybody is familiar with a good slap in the face, it'll be Miles

The Jazz will want to move salary if they're serious about Miles. And if I were him I'd be much more interested in playing for the Jazz than I would a team like the Pistons.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
The Jazz have 45 million in cap space.
1. They don't need a sign and trade.
2. I wouldn't really want to do a sign and trade with them, if you want to sign Miles you have to take his contract into cap space, we aren't taking back a guy you don't want so you can sign Miles and someone else.
If Miles walks we still have 30 million in cap space, sign and trading him and taking back someone like John Collins is adding no value. If we had 10 million in cap space? Sure because Collins would be better than the guy we could sign outright, but in this scenario no.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
In other words Miles is likely our best player we can get in FA. So we might as well keep him and potentially trade him down the line if we want to move on.
Anything below 30mil for Bridges is a win for us imo. Saying that I still think he will get above 30 because Rich Paul is one of the best agents in the game at getting his clients paid.
Fred Van Fleet literally got a max contract last off-season. That's Cray Cray!

What's the board consensus here on what Jalen Smith nets in new contract? If Miles walks, wouldn't mind sliding him into the 4.

Meh, decent guy as a stretch 5 off the bench. He only played like 15 mpg for the Pacers this year, don't think he is a starter in the NBA.

Downgrade for sure, but if Miles walks, we're definitely shopping the downgrade bin.
EDIT - just noticed he did spend almost all of this time backing up Turner at 5. Always thought of him as a 4/5 rather than a 5/4.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
We really are going to let Miles walk and be bad again this year. Then when Miles is playing well for his new team we can list off all the excuses why it was a better fit there and how we are better off picking in the top 7 again next year.
See Batum, Pj, Oubre for reference.

@jmac
and if miles agent says 5/150 (no team options) or miles walks to [team]... what is your move as hornets gm?

I'd do that deal, $30m in 3 seasons will be like $20m now

The most any team can give him is 4 years. Including us I believe since we don't have his full bird rights.
But yeah 4/120 is probably fine with me if some other team is willing to give him that. We really don't know, teams might be offering him 3/60 and all this other team news might be pointless chatter.

Re: Prodigal Son: The Miles Bridges Thread
Only Hornets fans would think man we have a top 75 player in Brandon Miller. We are ready to compete, let's get Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball outta town and surround Brandon with role players and we can win a title lol.
and I love Brandon
