Two huge contracts for a pair of expirings, Ben Gordon, and a 1st? No thanks, Hump is paid only slightly less than Gordon yet not nearly as effective.

To the original offer (Lopez for a 1st), I'd rather use that pick on Noel - who I'm really not that high on - and see if he develops than kill our cap space with Lopez.

Humphries is a better player than Gordon. no real way around it. Gordon is one of the worst defensive players in the nba. humprhries additionally would be, by far, our best big man immediately.

Agree to disagree, but him being our best big wouldn't be saying a whole lot. I wouldn't be opposed to swapping he and Gordon simply because it better fits our needs, but at the cost of our a 1st rounder? And being hamstrung by Lopez's monster contract while jettisoning a couple expiring deals? I'll pass.

1st is obviously for Lopez. I think the 2nd option i proposed is more likely anyways and that version does not have us taking on humphries. pretty hard to argue that a gordon - humphries switch doesnt help us.

Lopez salary isnt really ridiculous at all. I think a lot of people group "max contract" players into the same bucket, but Lopez's salary the next 4 years is far more reasonable than say Rudy Gay or Dwight Howard. There are a variety of reasons why that is the case, but this is a fair deal for brook, IMHO.

Brook Lopez salary
12/13- $13,668,000
13/14- $14,694,000
14/15- $15,719,000
15/16- $16,774,000

I'm not a Brook Lopez fan but I'd live with that trade. But, I'm pretty sure we can't trade our 1st round pick except on draft day b/c it technically belongs to Chicago.

I wonder if Dwight would come to Charlotte if we allowed him, instead of our GM, to hand pick our coach (joking). Oddly enough I think that regardless of who he chose we would still win more games.

My problem isn't necessarily Lopez (though I'm not really a fan), it's that we'd be putting all of our "eggs into one basket" so to speak. We should have a high draft pick AND a good amount of cap-space this off-season. By making this trade we lose both of those assets on one player that, really isn't that great. I'd rather use the pick on a good young talent, and then spend the money on a big in FA.

so let me get this straight. We lose our starting SG, our best 3 point threat/ bench spark, and a 1st rounder to get a mediocre Bigman who isn't prolific on offense or defense... While we are at it why don't we trade away Kemba Walker to the Lakers that way we get **** even harder by this trade....

Oh and since we are playing NBA 2k13 we might as well try a Diop for Lebron James straight up trade while we are at it.

So basically nobody is willing to give up anything of value for the primary scoring threat on a team in contention for an NBA title at a position of need for us, not to mention?

I can't help but think of how much Lopez would open up the perimeter for Kemba and McLemore/Shabazz.

I don't like the contract but it's not like we are Memphis. We don't have 3 players making big dollars long term. Lopez hurts flexibility on a team like that. On a team with our cap space, his salary is not an issue.
It has been written...

if we're going after huge contract bigs I'd rather just be patient and wait till the offseason and sign them ourselves rather than give up assets to take them on right away for no purpose

Im not a fan of Lopez because he isnt the great rebounder/post defender that we really need. He also has a terrible contract. I would rather give Greg Oden or Al Jefferson (not a great defender- but he isnt DJ White bad either) a run.

In response to the Lopez ideas i would love to have him on the team, we nned a low post player more than anything....

But just a random small idea that popped in my head how about a trade of something like Diop/Rwilliams to Denver for Mozgov/W Chandler. Nothing thats gonna shake the earth but if we cant move Diop for a better player or bigger deal i would atleast like to get something for him. Here we get half a season to look at Mozgov and see if he can help going forward and we add Chandler somebody that can put the ball in the hoop, something else we need. I know we are loaded on the wings but I dont expect both Hendo & BG to both be back here next year, atleast one of them is getting moved. As incentive for taking on the remaining years of Chandlers deal maybe we can poach a first rd pick from Den as they have alot of young players like Hamilton, QMiller & Fournier that they still need to develop and they are more built for right now or if not a pick maybe we can get one of those young guys thrown in

Lopez is a good idea that is not going to happen. Everything I have heard says that the Nets love Brooke and want to keep him. Not to mention that if he were traded in a move for Dwight the lakers would probably insist on Brooke coming to them.

Love the idea. For Diop and Williams you bet I'd be willing to take a look at them. If we could get a pick as well even better.

I think we should do that trade. I think Denver might, but that trade could really change things up in Charlotte.
