My thing is if a guy looks lost in Clifford's system how do you tell if it's the guy being dumb or Clifford's system? Bismack would get benched for fighting for offensive rebounds some games. Mo looked great until he started doing what Clifford wanted. It's not real intuitive basketball.

Agree. I think it's natural to say he wasn't ready because he's not here and we want to feel good about why. With that said, to me he always looked out of sync. Every time he played well during the last part of the season was in blow outs or meaningless games, and it wasn't in the context of normal game situations.

He could be great. I really don't know what his future holds.

I've convinced myself that he must be stupid as it helps me accept the trade, please don't ruin it for me.

I like to think of him as Lennie Small from Mice and Men.

He sits on the sidelines muttering "I'll catch it and I'll shoot it, and I'll swat the ball away"

Could be good, could suck. Never saw him being great. His athleticism was and is rather overblown.

Possibly too depressing to follow. This is the equivalent of a guy breaking up with his girlfriend because she was getting fat and wearing sweatpants everyday, then following her on facebook to see she lost weight and is now dressing sexy and dating guys who make more money than you. I'd rather just dig my head in the sand and pretend Vonleh was never drafted by us.

It was obvious Vonleh was going to be pretty good. No 7ft player I can remember with a solid shooting stroke and that sort of rebounding ability has failed to be at least starting caliber. He wasn't ready last year, but he was only 19, what did anyone expect? Vonleh definitely was out of defensive position and had much to learn, but the result was not any different in practice than watching Maxiell be in the right spot but still get scored on consistently because he lacked size. Clifford was just an inflexible douche when it came to the rook all year long, no surprise since we all know his lineups are shaky at best and wtf at worst. He sabotaged the value of a rare prospect (young player with legit big-man size/athleticism AND legit stretch-shooting ability) whose skill set in today's league should be in high demand. Not that we should ever even consider trading a player like that, he's tailor-made for the way the league is evolving. The Blazers got that guy for a dude who was bolting town anyway in 12 months and has no place in a rebuild, they really capitalized.

Vonleh's going to be really good for Portland. He was not worth sacrificing for the win-now pipe dream, but whatever, we done **** up and there's no taking it back. I agree with Fats, I would rather watch him from afar and not keep a thread going when he inevitably turns out to be a pretty good player. I'd rather keep his example in my back pocket for eternity when we have future discussions about the pro/con of win-now hail marys.

Why do we have a thread about this guy? Did we ever have him here? He would probably be our best 2-way prospect if we did, what a stud. Why cant we have players like this.

Dude looks like a savage out there in the summer league. Not going to be a popular trade in the future to say the least. Batum better step his game up for Cho's sake.

It's closer to taking her glorious hotness home at bar time...then waking up the next morning and realizing she's *exactly* the same person you dumped.

A. Good catch, I was not aware he was under 7 feet. His length is elite though, which is more important anyway(You don't block shots with your head). His wingspan is 1 inch less than Embiid's measurement.

B. The vast majority of those guys absolutely do not have a shooting stroke (based on percentages) similar to Vonleh at a comparable age. Especially Robsinon, Aldrich, Mullens and Zeller. Others like Beasley, Williams and Randolph are either tweeners or twigs which is not a problem for Vonleh, he clearly has legit big man size while they do not. Others like Patterson, Speights and Hawes are arguably starting-caliber players although admittedly not starters in an ideal setup.

I still think Vonleh has a combination of physical attributes and basketball skill that is extremely rare, and also a good fit for what the NBA is looking for in big men these days. I will be very surprised if he is not better than every guy you just listed. Time will tell though.

If Portland starts those two, they will have adequate spacing even if they start Henderson and Aminu at the wings. Lillard/M3Y3R$/Vonleh is a lot of shooting.
