Trade Proposal With Warriors

Post#1 » by Bassman » Fri May 21, 2010 5:04 am

Someone who lives in SF posted a trade idea in the Observer, claiming the Warriors are ready to deal this guy for the right scenario. He proposed Tyson Chandler for Monta Ellis and Anthony Morrow. First, I seriously doubt that gets done, but it is an interesting concept. Clearly the Warriors are all in with Curry, and Azubuike is likely their main man at the 2 for the long term. I'd love to put Ellis on out team as the starting 1. Certainly he's no pure PG but we have multiple guys that the offense runs through here (Jax, Diaw). Monta's scoring would be a huge lift here, turning our dynamic duo of Jax and Wallace into a three-headed monster!! If Ajinca could turn into any sort of post threat to combine with Nazr & T2, we'd have a team. Envision Diaw as 6th man, plus super subs DJ, Henderson & UPS...

I know Ellis would eat into a large part of our future cap relief, but he's a young player who should bring the bacon home for a long time. It has the makings of another "steal a deal" where a team doesn't want a quality player and might be willing to part with him for pennies on the dollar. I doubt it, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

An Ellis+Jax backcourt gives you the most inefficient scoring you've ever seen.

No thanks, we need a real point guard.

If we trade for any Warrior not named Curry it better be Anthony Randolph.

Not in love with this idea, but it's something. According to their PERs, Ellis had roughly the same season Okafor did, except Okafor is a capable defender, while Ellis has some short comings on that side of the ball. Ellis gets paid slightly more than Mek, so if the idea was that we had too much money locked into one player with Okafor, seems like it would apply to Ellis as well. Scoring and height get overpaid in this league.

In the end: pass

On the bright side, if we had Jackson and Ellis both jacking up 45+ shots on any given night, Gerald would be the first 6'7 guy to average 17+ rebounds per game.

Liking you more and more with every post you make Nasty!!

I'd pass on the deal as well. I'm still not sold on the health of Ellis since he blew his leg to pieces.

If a team doctor for Charlotte checked out Ellis and said he was fine, then I would strongly consider a trade of TC and TT (S&T) for Ellis and Anthony Randolph.

Depends on if that is the same doctor for Charlotte that checked out Tyson Chandler before we traded for him and said he was fine I say!!

Very good point! Yes, the Bobcats better have a new team doctor.

People should post salary info with trades like this, obviously talent wise it's a win for us, but it all turns on the salaries....

Monta did have a pretty crappy season last year, but the year before his scooter accident he was super efficient for an almost 50 win team. Given that we are not exactly swimming with scorers, maybe we should think about it.

btw, Isn't Morrow a FA right now? He would have to agree to the S&T then right? We should just switch him out for Reggie Williams who is a better player anyway:)

do you believe that LB can get through to ellis and help refine his shot selection and reduce the turnovers?

I do. I am more intriqued as to what LB would do as a starting lineup. Ellis, Jax, Crash, Randolph and Nazr? Does he go smaller and try Ellis, Jax, Crash, Diaw (or UPS) and Randolph? All I know is that we would be very athletic.

Ellis on this team with LB as the HC would be a complete disaster IMO.

ya'll are lunchin if you dont want to bring ellis aboard, or do we wanna live the first round all over again. Felton is a nice point guard, but not even close to being better then ellis. He is a better scorer which is a main reason we got put out in the first round, more athletic, and with a ellis, sjax, and gforce big three we will be a team to recon with next year.

Ellis isn't a point guard. Also, he hasn't been asked to play defense since his freshmen year in high school. He's not going to magically learn how to guard people anytime soon.

The reason we got put out of the 1st round was defense, turning the ball over, and THEN scoring. If you pair Monta with Jack again you're setting yourself up to see possibly the most inefficient backcourt duo in NBA history.

We would also have the two most turnover prone players in the league in our backcourt, in addition to our already horribly turnover prone team.

No interest at all.

If this trade is offered, you do it. You then ship Ellis off to Memphis for OJ Mayo and extras as Memphis wanted to do this year.

It's like when Atlanta traded for Rasheed Wallace; he played one game and was gone. Just because we trade for a guy does not mean that we have to keep him. Think of it as OJ Mayo + Morrow + Extras for Tyson Chandler. That's almost as good as the deal the Rockets received for McGrady.

You mean except for the part where Ellis shot over 50%fg with 20ppg scoring back before he was asked to carry a terrible team?

Return to Charlotte Hornets
