Bobcats busy on trade front

The Charlotte Bobcats are " very active'' in various trade discussions around the NBA, according to a friend of mine in a front office.

Considering who said that, I'm confident the perception is accurate and that if the fellow knew more he would have said. The guy said he's been told the Bobcats seem willing to increase their payroll if they can do something to significantly improve themselves.

That suggests they're willing to take some financial risk. That surprises me a little, and I wish I knew the nuance. I got the sense owner Michael Jordan was pretty reluctant to go into luxury-tax territory, and I can't argue with that reasoning for a team slightly better than out of the playoffs and still losing lots of money.

Maybe what they're talking about is more long-term financial commitment that spread the risk over several years.

At minimum, it's obvious they're busy over there, a nice contrast with the sense of head-scratching a few weeks ago when coach Larry Brown was wondering whether he wants to come back. At least from the short time I've been around Brown the past week, he seems energized and engaged by the work. Larry's passion gets everyone else excited, and that's the energy they need to become viral.

If he's suddenly willing to open up his wallet, then that can only be a good thing. It means that he's willing to make a big, immediate push over these next two years and HOPEFULLY it also means that the team will continue to establish its identity under Larry Brown. This news coupled with the information regarding the FO's mission to upgrade the PG position... hey, maybe they're looking at Gilbert or Tony Parker? They're certainly the most available clear upgrades.

(sweet dear lord don't let this be a sign that we'll be trading for Hedo...)

I said it before and I will say it again. They are about to trade Tyson and they called him to let him know. He and his people don't like that fact and they put out that false rumor that he may opt out if only to scare other teams into looking at other options for now.

LB was not taking all that time off to talk to his family. He wanted a guarantee that the cats will make trades to improve

Tyson can't opt out until July 1st right?

He's still got his trade value despite whatever he's talking about...

Can anyone else feel a Hedo trade coming very soon?

Who know's why Tyson went public, maybe he was weighing up his options of being traded to any team, or becoming a free agent and choosing which team to go too.

But he had to opt out before July 1st, and can only trade him after July 1st and obviously as long as he doesn't opt out, so him going public doesn't really affect his trade value.

I'm wondering if Al Jefferson could be in our future? Per the rumor sites, he seems to be getting lots of attention in trade talk leading up to the draft. They need a center in the worst way, and plan to start Love at the 4. What combination of players do you think we could make a deal with that includes Jefferson?

Or do we even want him?

I do think Chandler is likely part of any deal for AJ. But I want some cap relief, and AJ buries us into the future. If a trade sent out some dead meat like Diop, along with Diaw, for Jefferson and Sessions, I might go for that. AJ has a post game and rebounded at 9.3 laast year.

You "might" go for that?

Are you serious?

This shouldn't surprise anyone, the team has not been shy about trading players since LB got here...

People need to stop including Diop in any trade where we receive any talent back what so ever, the only way we're trading Diop is if we get a similar amount of bad contracts (hard to imagine) in return or if we are giving up talent. It's safe to say that no trade involving Diop will be bringing back Al Jefferson.

btw, I wouldn't worry about bringing in Hedo, not while LB's the coach anyway....

If only McHale still had a job in Minnesota's FO...

You've got nothing to worry about, that other guy (Kahn?) is even worse. Remember, the dude who took 8237138787 PG's in the draft (none of which have done anything so far)?

Jefferson seemed to have a quiet year coming off that injury, but damn he would be a nice change at the big man position for us. He is more of a PF and I'd imagine they'd want a S&T involving TT though.

I'd be really interested if they're trying to find a way to get a Boozer. We need quality at the PF/C spot badly. Centers don't grow on trees, so I doubt we get anything there but I would not consider a big long term contract with an all-star caliber guy burying us with cap inflexibility. You don't need it when you're a good team. I just hope they don't do something dumb, such as getting Hedo - what a horrid contract.

Chandler matches salary with Jefferson, but what else could we add to make it enticing?
Gerald Henderson? hmmm not really. Would be nice though.

I've been trying to think of trades involving Diaw, but I honestly can't think of a team that might want him. Am I being overly critical, can anyone think of a team that would like a player like Diaw?

You might go for that? I'd go for a trade where we sent Diop and Diaw to Minnesota and we actually just got back dead meat - maybe some chicken breasts and some hams.

Chandler seems to be getting a bit of play on other boards. I saw a few Cavs fans speculating that if they did a S&T for Bosh without giving up Jamison (they were assuming Varejao and Hickson would have to be included instead) that they would want to trade Jamison to us for Chandler.

I think our best bet with Chandler is to keep him atleast for awhile if he does not opt out. Any trade right now will come with a heavy discount because of uncertainty related to his health. If he can show 06-07 numbers again then we might want to keep him and if not we can at least get something of real value for him. I highly doubt the Cavs would give up Jamison for Chandler during the offseason.

I do not want Jamison. After his performance in the playoffs and, frankly, last season, I'm convinced he's not much help here.

I think that he would be excellent in Jersey - especially if they land one of the big name FA wings like LBJ, Wade or JJ.

A line up of Harris - JJ - T.Will - Diaw - Lopez would be pretty sweet IMO.

I also think he would do well in Chicago. Again, if they land one of the big name wing FA's then he would slot into the 4 spot really well.

Rose - Wade - Deng - Diaw - Noah

And I think he could work well next to Bogut for the Bucks while helping Jennings with ball movement.

Don't Knicks just want all former Suns players?
