Jordan brand

Post#1 » by thesneakysneak » Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:11 pm

I have a few questions to throw out there. How much influence does Jordan as an owner have now over guys that are part of the Jordan brand in bringing them in through trades and free agency?

Does he have any advantages in being able to give a Jordan brand player more money through sponsorship deals to come to Charlotte ? eg more cut of money going to a player though product sales or make a somewhat smaller market guy a feature of an add campaign? (see Hamilton feature heavily in the Jordan commercial)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C2nkm_PSyQ

Or perhaps the ability to give an upcoming player his own shoe line if he comes here? (DJ Augustine even has a shoe on Jordan brand).
This could potentially be quite a good bargaining chip in bringing in players who potentially want more money than our cap enables also.
For example hypothetically speaking, if player x's market value is around 8mil on the market would they be interested in 6 mill plus kick ins from endorsements from Jordan brand and a potential add campaign around them and a nice shoe deal for a sweetener? what pro athlete doesn't aspire to their own shoe and media campaign if pays?

Subsequently here are some of the players signed up to Jordan brand:
Anthony
Paul
Wade
Ray Allen
DJ Augustine !!
Bibby
Finley
Hamilton
Juwan Howard
J Jeffries
J Johnson
Kev Martin
Q Rich
Bobby Simmons
Josh Howard
It seems intriguing that two of the upper tier guys there are the rumored targets this off season. plus i know Hamilton has been brought up a whole lot in old trade talks especially due to the LB connection.
Would you think its beyond reason that free agents would be drawn here allowing smaller contracts but better endorsement deals?
i can also see it being Jordans style to get guys on his brand together on the same team for the potential marketing purposes. Anything to it?

It was one of the concerns when he bought majority ownership of the team. Other owners didn't want him using his brand to attract players or give him an unfair advantage.

I'm pretty sure things were put into place to not allow that to happen.

I am intrigued as to how they could actually stop it though. Again hypothetically, why couldn't he sign up a young guy for a comparatively speaking, ludicrous endorsement deal to current market while signing him cheaper to an NBA contract? Where is the arbitrary cut off point where another team would call shenanigans?

I wonder what is to keep Jordan from branding the team somewhat. I know they have a jersey deal with the NBA, but it would be pretty cool if the team name was changed and he released some team shoes. These Jordan's GDub wore for a minute were pretty sweet. I actually have a pair unworn.

I think it would be the same as the Timberwolves contract thing. They made the penalty so hard (didn't they miss out on 3 1st round draft picks?) that it stops teams from doing it. I guess the T.Wolves were just silly enough to try it on? I would assume that there would be some serious penalties sent Jordan's way if it was found he was bucking the system.

I'm sure that if in two years the Bobcats signed CP3 (when he becomes an UFA) for a flat rate of $9 mil a year some serious questions would be asked by other teams and a lot of questions answered by MJ.

I think the risk would be way too high.

I was beginning to think I was the only person that liked the 11's!! I've had like 3 different pairs that I've worn ragged playing ball. Unfortunately, they're way too expensive to get nowadays so I've been "stuck" using my Hyperizes.

Fats, there's no way I could wear low tops when I play. I've landed awkwardly on people's feet far too many times to risk it any more.

Yea the 11s are the hottest Jordan shoe ever made. I got them when they re-released them.

fat- I play in low tops too I feel like it gives me better movement. A lot of players in the league are switching to low tops too.

Ankles get turned as much in high tops seems to me as low tops. Just ask the last guy who tried to guard me... :o

Jordans are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever worn. I bought a paid of XIIs a year ago and they I felt like I bag of cement on my feet.

then I gave it another try and bought the 2010s a few months ago. I sprained my ankle twice in those.
Now I went back to good old Nike and got a pair of the new Hyperize. They are okay, but the best shoes ever made are still the Huaraches 2k4.

I had a pair of XIII's and thought they were too stiff and didn't have enough padding for the base of my foot.

ive been playing in low tops since i was in college. last year was the first time i sprained an ankle bad enough to keep me out. it probably would have been fine but i compounded it by trying to run a 10 miler 3 days later when i was training for half marathon and i ended up on crutches for a few days and no running or hoops for a month. maybe ive just been lucky or maybe i have ankles that dont sprain much. i mean, some guys i play with are walking sprained ankles. its guaranteed they will have a sprained ankle before the day is over and they come out wearing ski boots.

speaking of hoops, man i miss it. i havent played since last november when we lost our gym due to youth rec leagues.

It's true that you turn your ankles in high's as much as low's, but when you have high's you can lace the shoe up tight and keep it from swelling so it doesn't hurt. In low tops, there isn't much you can do about it.

The cover with MJ on it is awesome. Especially the top of the box ;)

Lebron's shoes were the most uncomfortable ever!

I co-sign on the Hurrache 2k4's I still wear those and only to hoop in so they'll last forever.
