Armed men break into home of Stephen Jackson

Post#1 » by countryboi » Fri Jul 23, 2010 12:56 am

Three armed men broke into the south Charlotte home of Bobcats Stephen Jackson and held his wife at gunpoint before locking her in a bathroom and stealing valuables, police say.

The home invasion robbery happened just after 7 a.m. Wednesday at the home on Leamington Lane a gated community off Carmel Road.

The robbery report doesnt list the victims names or say what the robbers got away with, but a police source told the Observer that the victim was Jacksons wife and that he wasnt home at the time of the crime.

Public records list Jackson and his wife, Renata, as occupants of the home. Theyve lived there since December 2009.

Officers have not said why they believe their home was targeted. No one has been charged.

The Charlotte Bobcats declined to comment.

The $1.7 million tan stucco home with three garages is owned by former Bobcats guard Jason Richardson, who was traded to the Phoenix Suns during the 2008-2009 season.

About a year later, the Bobcats acquired Jackson, a talented shooting guard who helped lead the team to its first playoff appearance last season.

Professional athletes like Jackson have long maintained that they and their loved ones are sometimes targeted by criminals. A 2007 Boston Globe investigation estimated more than 90 percent of NBA and NFL players carried guns for protection.

The 2007 slaying of Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, during what police called a random burglary at his home in south Florida, heightened feelings of vulnerability.

In Charlotte in 2005, Charlotte Bobcats forward/center Melvin Ely and two other people were robbed and shot at outside a South Boulevard strip club. Ely ultimately recovered his $30,000 piece of jewelry from a pawn shop.

Last year, Carolinas Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis reported to police that his 1975 Chevrolet Caprice Classic was taken from the front of his home in the Providence Plantation community of southeast Charlotte.

Davis told police the purple Chevy, with distinctive wheels and other upgrades, is worth $136,000. It included a steering wheel that incorporated a football and a photo of Davis. Staff researcher Maria David contributed.

Be thankful his wife was not physically hurt, but I know the event had to be traumatic. I hope they get the SOB's and they rot in prison.

The media doesn't understand why these guys need guns, they assume all these athletes who just so happen to be black must be thugs. Many of these guys come from the hood, and the reality is these men need to be able to defend themselves. These guys are targets even in their own homes. Let me come across a nice stack of money. This is one of the reasons why I just recently moved from Charlotte to Rock Hill. CRIME. No place is safe in Charlotte. Even in South Park where you have so many people having their cars broken into. And now this on Carmel road, gated community and they still break in. :nonono: Charlotte is going downhill...

Thank God everyone is OK.

I too am glad that Mrs Jax is ok.

And call me crazy, but Jax's wife is one of the last people I would want to bust in on and jam a gun in her face.............considering she is married to Jax!! If they find the dudes who did it I have a feeling that Jax might know some people that might know some people who might settle the score in a very, very bad way.

Jax is one of the last guys I would want to try to mess with ... especially if it involved messing with his family.

Still this is a terrible thing, and I feel for Jax and his wife.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Horrible. Luckily his wife is not physically injured, hopeuflly nothing traumatic will last long. Would be horrible for Jax to lose another member of his family this way. It sounds horrible but I'm actually glad Jax wasn't there (maybe they waited til lhe left, 7am?!) as he would most probably tried to do some heroics and things may not ended so well.

Get well Jackson family.

This is crazy! How the hell these three men did rob Jack's house in a gated community and at daylight?!

I hope the cops will catch these robbers ASAP and get them to jail.

This is traumatizing for Jack's wife. I wish her well and hope she can get over this incident soon. I also hope that this incident would not affect Jack's focus and preparation for the coming season.
