found this link at RoF. its from sportingnews.com. seems as though the dog and pony show is finally heating up and we are seeing some marketing rewards of having mj has our owner
http://www.sportingnews.com/nba/article ... or-bobcatsVideo game maker 2K Sports has signed its first NBA team sponsorship deal with the Charlotte Bobcats, an agreement that comes as the company features Bobcats owner Michael Jordan on the cover of its upcoming "NBA 2K11" game
The Bobcats have a multiyear deal with Jordan Brand and are looking at a major enhancement on the apparel side. The team is working on a new partnership with Hanes and is in discussions to expand its current deal with Gatorade.
"With Michael in place, our portfolio transcends the regional market into a more national player," said Bobcats President and COO Fred Whitfield. "When your owner is on the cover of the ("NBA 2K11") video game, you can't have any more synergy than that. We also are in dialogue with every one of his partners and are closing in on a number of deals."
A year ago, the team had about 55 sponsors and had sold just 350 new full-season tickets. But in the past 12 months, the team has added more than 35 new partners, with another double-digit increase in new deals expected when the 2010-11 season begins.
The team this summer already has also sold 1,500 new full-season tickets and has a season-ticket renewal rate exceeding 90 percent, putting the Bobcats in the top 10 among the NBA's 30 teams in both categories.

The last quote is the most promising. I think it would be a realistic goal to lead the league in attendance within the next five years (as we did for so many years in the 90's). Season tickets are a start to that.

I hope this isn't just a honeymoon period. Obviously the trend will slow down but this is extremely encouraging news.

Would it be fair to say we have the owner with the highest profile in the NBA?
More so than Cuban?
More so than the Maloofs?
More so than Allen?
More so than Buss?

Yes we instantly had an owner with a higher profile then any of them the first day he became owner.

I dont know. My fear is that alot of layperson type fans will be confused and/or disappointed when this team idles or even worse, possibly takes a step back during the next year or two due to some of the shortsighted moves by the FO.

this. To be honest, I doubt we will make the playoffs next year if we don't improve our roster

Now mj needs to somehow incorporate this to his maketing efforts.
More viewership.

Of course.
It's
Michael Jordan. It doesn't get more high profile than that.

Sure Jordan is one of if not the best basketball player of all time, but:
Cuban, well he is Cuban and everyone knows Cuban.
The Maloofs own Vegas
Paul Allen is worth something like 18 BILLION dollars
The Buss family and the Lakers are etched in stone.
As an owner (not as a guy who did amazing things on the court) is Jordan the most high profile?
Heck, 80% of fans outside of the Bobcats fanbase still think that Jordan is our GM and don't even know he is our owner - but I bet 99% of all fans know who own the teams I mentioned above.

It doesn't matter what they do. EVERYBODY knows Michael Jordan. My grandma knows Michael Jordan. People all over the WORLD know Michael Jordan.
Can't say the same for the rest of the guys.

Precisely. This is my point. Even if people think he's the GM, it doesn't matter. He's Michael. An icon, a hero to some even. Even with Cuban and the rest, everyone knows Michael in this league. There's no question he is as high profile as they come, and the results of this will be very noticeable very soon, if not already.

I think you guys are missing the context of the question.
I didn't ask if he was the most high profile person or the most high profile front office guy or the most high profile sporting identity or the most high profile song and dance man.
No one thinks Cuban, the Maloofs, Allen or Buss are their teams GM's.
Is he the most high profile owner - and if a zillion people think of him as only our GM, then I would suggest he was not. Maybe that will start to change though.

No I'm not missing the context. I'm saying it doesn't matter what think his job/property is. If anybody hears the name Michael Jordan, they know who it is. If that same person nears the name Maloof, it's likely that they don't know who they are. Same goes for Buss.
To put it differently, if you were to make a list of every owner in the league and show that list to a group of people, I'd wager that the majority of them would recognize Jordan's name before anybody else's

Conversely if you listed all of the teams with the owners names next to them but left the Bobcats, Kings, Mavs, Lakers and Blazers blank asking people to fill in who the owners of those teams are, what sort of answers do you think you would get?
