Can we offer a package that trumps the knicks in getting melo?

He wants NY. NY wants him.

and of course we are able to offer a better package than NY, but it would leave us with a D-League roster

We had a better chance of getting CP3 then Melo, and that didn't happen... Don't see him coming to CLT.

I'm not a big fan of Melo, don't think he would fit in with the Bobcats(unless you blow up the whole team). The knicks offense would be a better fit for him.

he would be better off in denver than coming here. melo in charlotte w/out another superstar means he will be leaving for NY at the end of the season.

He ain't coming here so no need to speculate. Now if he does go to NY in a trade, Denver will probably blow it all up. Meaning we could possibly get in on Billups and Nene.

To be honest, I would be happy to get a one-year rental of Melo but I would want to dump some contracts in the process. Denver wouldn't do that so it eliminates him coming here.

Now, if we could get Anthony and Billups, I would change my tune a bit.

I'll try and find the quote from Bill Simmons' book where he said Melo would NEVER play for LB after the National Team debacle a few years back

Seriously, these threads are kind of pathetic. We are not trading for a superstar, and if I were to pick the least likely players to come to Charlotte, Melo would be top 5.

You hush. Glen Rice, Jamal Mashburn, and Eddie Jones will always be superstars in my heart. :P

But you're right, even with MJ, Charlotte is not an ideal location for any of these guys. Our best players are drafted or we trade for them. It's been that way since the Hornets came into the league and works the same way now. Wallace? Expansion draft. Jax? Traded here and under contract so he has to play. Flip Murray and Larry Hughes? Typical "star" free agents that a Charlotte team can pull in.

I agree. If Melo wants out the Nuggets should cut all the big contracts.

if they trade Melo + Balkman for Curry + Azubuike + Gallo + Randolph + pick

than we have a chance to aquire Nene + Billups for Dampier + Nazr + DJ + Hendo

Denver would win big cause they would have 22M expiring of there own (KMart, JR), recieve 14 M expiring from NYK (Curry, Azubuike) and get 7 M expiring from us (Mohammed) + a 13 M instants salary dump (Dampier)

And they will recieve a bunch of young talent Gallo, Randolph, DJ, Hendo

Larry Brown would receive his favourite pg and a real low post C

Our starting 5 would be
Billups
Jackson
Wallace
Thomas/Diaw
Nene

Our bench would need some backing up ... a backup C, Sg (possibly Hughes)

Why give up so much and not make them take Diaw? We give up any hope we have of a future player and financial wise? All players on the wrong side of their careers in big deals. Think about this a little bit. It won't happen though I'm just saying.

Only chance we'd have is if we already had CP3 somehow OR if we are able to clear enough cap space to offer CP3 + Melo in 2 years. We'd still need to compete with the Knicks though unless they end up not having the cap room to do both by then.

Basically, this is all extremely rare and we're going to have to hope we draft a player of their caliber one day.

:o :D :D Yes we can offer a package and sign Mello if Michael does the deal himself.
I believe the nuggets would take Diaw and Wallace for Mello. Leaving us with dollars to sign him to long term deal. I don't know any other team including NYK and ORl magic that can offer this kinda value. Throw in DJ for Ty Lawson (or Dampier/DJ for Billups if necessary)
Both Teams Win.. Both make playoffs

  Trade Checker 5671181 after September 13th? Is it possible?
Denver signs and trades Mello.... and Billups
Charlotte sends Dampier Augustine Wallace and Diaw

Why Charlotte-- they get the star player and 13 year veteran point(1 Year expiring) We can resign him next year or go after a younger veteran free agent point
Why Denver--they get Dampier(1 year expiring) point in Dj to pair with Lawson and Wallace to step into Camellos position along with Diaw who Western confernce teams hate to play against.

The only other option is Felton and Gallinairi from Knicks and I'd take Wallace over Gallinairi anyday. Diaw can play 3 postions and Augustine backs up Lawson who starts +++ Denver gets a Big expiring contract next year in Dampier.. Its a no Brainer and MJ can pull it off and convince Mello.
Lineup
Billups-Livingston-Collins
Jax-Hendo-Carroll
Mello-Brown-Mcguire
Thomas-Najeri
Nazr-Diop
Sign a D league 4 and 5 to round out 15

Return to Charlotte Hornets
