Assessment of Capt. Jack
After having Stephen Jackson for a year, what do you guys think of him. Is he working out for your team? Is his contract a fair value? Is he still arguing with the refs over no-calls? And anything else y'all like to add.
This is coming from a Warriors fan. Jack had his flaws, (and was playing under bad circumstances), but he was baller and always brought that toughness, which is now non-existent on the Warriors. So I just came to check up on him since I haven't seen much of your games.

Re: Assessment of Capt. Jack
I think Jax has been all that and more for our team. He brought an immediate presence, a go-to scorer that we haven't had. Early in his time here he hit some big shots to win the game and uttered the now famous quote "...I make love to pressure..". Well, that put a swagger in the rest of the team. He and Gerald Wallace really got along well, primarily because SJ acknowledged Crash as the Alpha male here. They present a formidable duo most nights. We would not have made the playoffs without the Captain.
Yes he still argues with refs, but Larry Brown pushed him back from that, and helped him realize how he only hurts himself and the team. Jax really respects LB and likes playing for him. He's working out (per LB's request) to lose weight so he can be quicker at the 2-guard spot (and improve his stamina). He'll always be a volume scorer but when he gets on a roll he can be deadly. Pretty good defender also.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Assessment of Capt. Jack
There are a lot of things to love about Jax. Bassman nailed a good one:
It's a tribute to Jax that he was able to transition into the team easily and seemingly not step on toes. He's that sort of team mate. He respects guys like Crash and Felts because of how much they care and how hard they work and he is willing to fit in and be a part of that rather than come in, make a lot of noise, proclaim himself as "the man" and force others to fit into him. I admire that about Jax.
There are things that are frustrating. He does still argue with the refs too much rather than focusing on the live play, he tends to go cold and stay cold from the floor and the more cold he is the more he tries to shoot his way out of it. He goes for the flashy pass too often rather than the simple pass.
I'm not a fan of his contract. $8.4 mil, $9.2 mil and $10 mil is a lot of coin for a dude well past his prime and heading into his mid 30's, but I think that his standard of play will keep up over the next couple of years which will make him a nice trade chip as an expiring contract to a contending team in a year or two if need be.
All that said, we are a MUCH better team with him a part of it than we were when we didn't have him.
I'm happy he is a Bobcat.

While he can shoot us out of a game or two, he will win us many many more games when he is on his game. He did so last year, and I expect the same this season. Getting him in Charlotte was a great move.

Re: Assessment of Capt. Jack
S-Jax turned 32 in April and showed no signs of slowing down. Dude was playing 40 minutes a night and doing everything. After the season he just had, you would have to say his contract is a bargain and many teams would love to have him.
Solid two-way players with his leadership skills do not grow on trees. As long as he doesn't go crazy which he probably won't do because of MJ's presence, S-Jax is great for team chemistry. He also said he loves playing for Larry Brown.
Now if we can get a solid point guard (Mo Williams), add a big man (Anderson Varejao) and a good shooter to the bench (?), I think we can win 50 games this season.....thanks in large part to S-Jax's presence.

Re: Assessment of Capt. Jack
Is he working out for your team?
Absolutely. He fits in great and complements Wallace well. He improved an already-good defense to be the best in the NBA.
Is his contract a fair value?
It was last year, when he was only making 7.6m. This year he'll be another year older and it'll be 8.5, which he's still probably going to be worth. I'm not so sure about 2011-12, when he'll still have another year on his contract, will be 34, and will be making over 9m. By then there will be a new CBA and it's not clear what that kind of salary will look like comparatively (though I think it's going to make the contract more, not less, burdensome).
Is he still arguing with the refs over no-calls?
He nearly led the league in T's last year. Really not that big a deal though.

He's the best player on this team. We need another one of him at PG.
I doubt we win 35 games without him, especially with Bell being injured.

Re: Assessment of Capt. Jack
i love everything but the careless turnovers. those drive me mad sometimes. its like he sees a pass but it takes a few seconds for his brain and hands to get on the same page. the player who was open is now covered and ends in a turnover.
i love his defense. if he loses some weight and gets quicker he's gonna be that much better on defense. his length is tough for other guards.

I'd like to see him work the post a little more. He actually has a very nice post game where he uses some nifty spins to get to the rack.

Jack always exceeds expectations during his 1st 18 months with a franchise. It's those next 18 months when the big-time trouble starts.
Stay tuned

Yeah well was it his fault Ron Ron jumped into the stands and defended himself and his teammate. It was ARtest's fault in Indiana and he personally apologized and bailed out on those guys.No trouble after his first 18 months in Indiana. Was it his fault the Warriors didnt re-sign Baron Davis in what should of been a no-brainer signing???The team had no chance of being relevant again with B diddy not there so they decided to rebuild and unfortuantely Jax did not want to be a part of that.By the time Steph Curry developed and they add some more pieces they might have been able to push for an 8 seed out west.Maybe possibly this year with David Lee on board but wouldnt u rather have him be a Bobcat this year??All those guys like Al Harrington,Jason Richardson,Mickael Pietrus and Matt Barnes had moved on so why should he be punished and put in a situation where a chaotic Golden State Warrior franchise had no idea what there tryna do.He made the right decision there and as for Charlotte he will be fine here.He likes Jordan and Larry. If he woulda stayed in San Antonio same thing. He likes the coach and he likes discplined structures.Without Jack the Cats would be no more than a 30-35 win team.Im not gona go into the Atlanta and Jersey days cause he only spent a year there each and definitely wasnt "harmful"while there.
