NBA Expands Technical Fouls For 'Overt' Player Reactions To Calls

The NBA announced the guidelines for technical fouls will expand to include "overt" player reactions to referee calls.

The rule is intended to prevent excessive complaining from players.

When players demonstratively throw their hands in the air or demonstrate how he was fouled by hitting his own arm, a technical will be issued.

Even if a player excessively asks about a call in a civilized, referees are instructed to issue a technical foul.

The only good thing coming from this would be if they would apply this rule to Dwight Howard without exception. He might not see second half of game in several games.

Yesm, trade Jax NOW! We'll be lucky to get 10 minutes per game out of this guy.

These new rules are ridiculous. They represent an HUGE overeaction to the level of smack talk going on in the league. Yes, I'm sure it's irritating to have these reactions and conversations on every other call, but they took this thing nuclear with these rules.

I think that's a good point doc. If they are really going to do it, then they have to do it all the way. That means that guys like LeBron, Kobe, CP3 etc are all in as much trouble as lesser known players.

"Laws are for poor people,"

There is no chance at all that this rule will be applied to Kobe, Lebron, Dwight, etc. You really think that the NBA wants Kobe getting kicked out of games in the second quarter? The second tier and below will suffer the consequences...

Yup, that's what I think that this rule would be a great tool to ensure Kings-Lakers like series outcome subtlier way.

Just imagine it: "You excessively asked about a call in a civilized way - you are send off! "

However, Dwight is stupid enough to get some techs along the way regardless.

on a semi-related note - i am all for the idea of not fouling out of games, just giving technicals and/or ball back after 6th foul.

They tried this in the local Australian league once. It was a joke and had to be stopped after a few weeks.

There were tech's getting called everywhere it made a farce of the game.

Yea, I don't think that would work. What would prevent Dwight Howard, for example, from getting 10 fouls but staying in the game. I'm sure Orlando would give up four points to keep him in there.

This is too funny.

Probably a cover their asses rule for the shammockery of the game that was made by the refs ejecting Perkins last year during the ECF's.

I do agree that too many calls are argued too frequently and players need to man up, but on the flipside a majority of NBA refs are gloriously turrible at their job.
