Mark my words if we trade DJ Augustin it will be...

Mark my words if we trade DJ Augustin it will be the biggest mistake in our franchises short history and we will sincerely regret it.... Why you my ask?
Kid was a baller his rookie year..
the reason for his sophmore slump was he was injured in the tail end of his rookie year and that carried over to the off-season, with him pursuing his degree at texas it never gave him the chance to get back into shape... he was finally being able to regain his form towards the end of the year and started playing good again..
Why he will turn it around this year?
all the reports from training camp and his personal interviews has showed he has the eye of the tiger, and the ambition to become an elite point guard in this league.. and I think that is his potential... He will be a better point guard then Felton was, and he will be a better player for our current system... he will be a zone buster and him and TT will develop to be a deadly combo.. he says he wants to earn the respect of his peers and coaches.. and the only way he can gain that is by becoming better on both sides of the ball.
I was an advocator for trading DJ for Devin, but after these training camp reports i'm confident that DJ will become who we thought he would be after his rookie contract.. and he will surprise a lot of people.. and it may have been a blessing in disguise for the trade to fall through.. I really do think he will get the MIP this year..
now if we could only trade diaw for a center

Even if we do trade for an established starting PG I don't want to trade Augustin, C is going to be what it is but we need to trade Diaw for a starting PG.

DJ needs to be the starter.. hes finally getting the ambition needed to be elite.. we don't need to trade for a PG, just focus on getting a C and we'll be good.. if we trade for a starter PG I think DJ's confidence will be crushed for good

We're talking about the guy who was crushed by Flippin' Flip Murray and Larry Hughes.
But I'll agree with you in that we should give him the opportunity to start. We took him in the draft knowing he might be Felton's replacement if he left in free agency. He did and DJ is Plan B. If it doesn't work out, we have Livingston signed to a reasonable deal. I've been for a trade the entire Summer but it's October now. If we were going to deal him, the NJ deal was the last opportunity to do so. With training camp started, it makes no sense to send him off now.
Augustin doesn't matter because much of the offense will still go through Diaw as it has in the past. I'm not going to call him the next Rondo but I think he can have a similar impact on a team of veterans. Throw him in there, see what he does, and hope for a good outcome.

Big mistake, yes. Biggest mistake? C'mon. Nothing will top the 'stache over Roy.

This is true. I remember yelling at the TV when Morrison's name came out.

Augustin is my third favorite bobcat after Wallace and Diaw. I'd be sad

I'm a DJ advocate,he will be better this season for us if LB eases up his grip just a lil bit on his nuts.

Stun, I appreciate your view, and getting excited about some early press about DJ's attitude. For all the issuyes I have with DJ (and continue to have), we absolutely should not trade him for the sake of trading. We'd need to get back a PG that we are certain is an upgrade. I felt Harris was that, and I still think Calderon is likely better also. After that it gets foggy. Would Jarret Jack meet that requirement? That's a tough call, but he's a player that starts to even out with at least the potential of DJ, especially given the difference in salary. Same issue with Calderon..who's more proven and talented but has an enormous salary.
I hope for the best, I really do. It would be awesome if DJ would "get it", play better defense (at least adequate), learn to command and distribute the offense, while hitting shots to help us regularly.
I also agree that our best scenario would be a trade of Diaw and whatever for a true starting 5.

Put it this way,put Jack's confidence in DJ and he becomes an all star level player.

DJ is going to beast it up this year. Glad we didn't trade him. I think DJ and Shaun will lock it down at the PG and both have breakout years.
http://www.newsobserver.com/2010/09/30/712828/augustin-morphing-into-bobcats.htmlDiaw on the other hand.... I would even be willing to trade for Marvin Williams at this point. Hope Boris has been saving some money b/c it's his last year as an overpaid scrub.

He has a player option after this season and I'm assuming that he'll take it, so he has two more years of being overpaid.
If we don't trade him, I think there's a possibility that we offer him 5-6m over a few years to get him to opt out. He does provide a lot for this team.

I see DJ as more of an undersized 2, if it has to be this way I hope he proves me wrong!

I remember DJ having some pretty good preseason games last year. He had like 30 pts one game and in another he had I think 25. Also had a couple other good ones too. So I don't know how much stock we can put in preseason. The bottom line with him is obviously confidence, but he needs to be more CONSISTENT. That's what separates the good from the bleh. Ray became more consistent last season and thats what DJ is going to have to do. If he's here, he needs to bring it EVERY NIGHT, not once a week.

Guys - don't get too excited. During training camp everyone has high expectations. Every team out there is talking about how their own mediocre players are going to turn things around and get to the next level this year. It's the nature of training camp. The only foundation for speculation is past performance and DJ hasn't proven anything yet. We all know what we have; an undersized, offensively minded point that is defensively limited and proven to be a poor distributor. I hope DJ shows us all something as well, but a couple of blurbs from a Bonnell article about how he now participates in team chants is no basis for predicting some dramatic turnaround.

My caution here is that it's one thing to talk the talk, but people don't suddenly change their personality, or their core character. DJ admits he's shy and not assertive ( = not a leader). He's already demonstrated that he's not the toughest guy out there (he wilted under LB's coaching and critique). So my caution is to not get wrapped up in the warm and fuzzy things coming our of camp. Part of this is happening, and part of this is Bonnell projecting. DJ still has to prove it, he has to prove it all night...prove it all right...( say's The Boss).

Warm and fuzzy??? Whose getting warm and fuzzy.I want DJ to do better and he has to for us to return to the playoffs and boosting his confidence is the 1st step in order for him to do that.I've always thought DJ would be a starter in this league,so these "warm and fuzzy" responses coming out of camp hasn't influenced my view of him as a player one bit, although it is good to hear he's starting to step up to the plate.
