Collins vs Javaris

This epic battle deserves its own thread.

who do you want?

at first i was thinking collins since he is younger and seems to be a better playmaker. assuming he can get his weight under control he might have some serious upside. however, with livingston seemingly destined to battle injuries all season, i am now thinking we might need javaris' size at some points this season.

preseason game 1: edge javaris

Cut Javaris, Collins, Najera and Miles and sign Flip Murray.

Isn't a bit too early to pick who we want? Kind of hard to pick one when we haven't seen them play.

Almost. Sign Murray and Larry Hughes. Then run that magical chuck-o-licious back-court.

Fact: Crittenton is younger than Collins. He also has NBA experience under his belt. That makes him the obvious choice.

This is tough. Collins is the better pure point. He also doesn't lack in confidence and could be a diamond in the rough if he shed several hundred pounds (he looks ridiculous).

Crittenton has the size, speed and experience, but his ceiling, to me anyway, is lower. Experience is a good and bad thing. He's made his rookie mistakes, but he's also shown his limitations. He hasn't cracked rotations for any serious minutes in his time in the league.

I vote for eating Najera's $$$.

Alright, I vote to keep both and cut Najera because DJ sucks. How's that? Cut Matt Carroll too!

Crittendon has the edge so far.

No need to change my vote because we need all the point guards we can get. Don't act like you didn't witness that horror show from DJ last season.

I want Collins to win the job, but LB and rookies do not mix well. Critt is more of a LB type of bench player (a guy everyone thinks sucks but LB loves).

waiving Eddie should be done no matter what. I would rather see them keep a project BIG like Rodgers and let him play in the Dleague then keep a guy like Eddie who will have no role

It's alright; we know you're not a big fan of hope and change.

Im gonna take the road less traveled here but if Livingston cant practice or play on consecutive nights than keep both & cut him and get a big man which is our biggest need anyway!!

If Collins can keep his weight under control/trim down i'd go with him.

gotta give the slight edge on game 2 to javaris. neither player did much but collins had more turnovers and less assists.

At this point it's Javaris..no contest. Does Collins have some potential? Yes, but so did McMay. If Collins can't get his weight under control after all the work in summer league and coming into camp KNOWING this is what he needed to do, then forget it. Quit wishing on a star, putting these guys into a hope category. We need production and results. Javaris is better now, and will be better downstream. His ceiling is not ultra high, but I don't want him to play starter minutes. If he is then DJ has busted for good and we're in deep doo (we are anyway but we're all filled with hope for DJ...).

Too much hope here with this team. We HOPE that Boris can play with consistency and produce like a starter (THAT'S not showing up after 2 preseason games). We HOPE that DJ will suddenly develop a leader's mentality and direct the team like a pro (he's shooting OK but we're waiting on the other part...still possible). We HOPE Nazr, Diop and Kwame can form a posse that holds the fort at the 5 (early returns are incomplete but the forecast is grim).

I don't want to add another HOPE log on the woodpile. No Collins.

I always have too optimistic hopes before the season. So adding plus one hope is not that big of an issue. The big problem is that after just a week in the regular season all of those hopes will vanish.

I think it is a bit absurd that we have 4 pg's, and all suck.

DJ is not starter caliber (he could be a decent backup though). Livingston can't even walk. Collins is fat (even LB said in a training camp interview that Sherron can't drive past anybody on the court ... maybe LB left out Livingston). And Crittenton ... seriously ... the guy never averaged more then 3 apg in a season, his best is 2.6 (he played 20 mpg that season) and his all time average is 1.8 apg. For a backup pg. If we sign him he will be more of a backup sg.

It's been decided! Sherron Collins will be our third PG.

I was hoping that Crittenton can make the team. He has the handles, size and defense to be steady at the PG position.

Bobcats Release Javaris Crittenton

October 15, 2010

Charlotte Bobcats General Manager Rod Higgins announced today that the team has waived guard Javaris Crittenton. In four preseason appearances, he averaged 3.3 points, 1.8 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 13:27 minutes.

Crittenton has played in 113 career NBA games for the Lakers, Grizzlies and Wizards, averaging 5.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 16.4 minutes. The two-year veteran was initially selected by the Lakers with the 19th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft.

The Bobcats roster now stands at 17.

The Charlotte Bobcats, who became the NBA’s 30th team when they joined the league in 2004-05, finished the 2009-10 season with a franchise-best 44-38 overall record (31-10 at home) and first-ever playoff appearance. The Bobcats host the Detroit Pistons in preseason action at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16 at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, SC.

I honestly don't see us keeping Tank either.

I'm sure that we'll end up signing some sort of NBA vet PG as our 3rd stringer (like Brevin Knight/Lindsay Hunter/Chucky Atkins type) who LB will over use when he thinks the ship needs steadying.
