Put your own grade next to each of these trades.

1. Bobcats trade rookie Kyle Weaver to Oklahoma City for a 2009 second-round pick. Analysis: The Bobcats used that pick to draft Derrick Brown, a definite keeper.

2. Bobcats trade Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley for Boris Diaw, Raja Bell and Sean Singletary. Analysis: Diaw and Bell both started immediately and Bell's expiring contract was key in later acquiring Stephen Jackson.

3. Bobcats trade Matt Carroll and Ryan Hollins for Gana Diop. Analysis: Desperate for more shot-blocking, the Bobcats overpaid for a center who still hasn't panned out.

4. Bobcats trade Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown for Vladimir Radmanovic. Analysis: Morrison, a former third overall pick, was a bust. Radmanovic was later packaged into the deal for Jackson.

5. Bobcats trade Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler. Analysis: Okafor wasn't a good fit with Larry Brown and this reduced long-term payroll responsibility.

6. Bobcats trade Radmanovic and Bell for Jackson and Acie Law. Analysis: They finally get a go-to scorer for an offensively limited roster.

7. Bobcats trade a protected 2016 second-round pick for center Theo Ratliff. Analysis: Ratliff filled in as a starter in the late-season playoff run.

8. Bobcats trade Flip Murray, Law and a future first-round pick to Chicago for power forward Tyrus Thomas. Analysis: Thomas is an exceptional athlete, arguably the best in franchise history.

9. Bobcats trade Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca for Matt Carroll, Eduardo Najera and Erick Dampier's unguaranteed, $13 million salary. Analysis: This eliminated the Bobcats' luxury-tax problems, but they had to take on Carroll's and Najera's contracts.

Very nice. But it's a basically minor trade in the scheme of things. I don't think we can grade it yet.
BigSlam wrote:2. Bobcats trade Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley for Boris Diaw, Raja Bell and Sean Singletary. Analysis: Diaw and Bell both started immediately and Bell's expiring contract was key in later acquiring Stephen Jackson.

Jason Richardson was nice and all, but I never identified him as a Bobcat. And Jackson will hopefully retire as one. B+
BigSlam wrote:3. Bobcats trade Matt Carroll and Ryan Hollins for Gana Diop. Analysis: Desperate for more shot-blocking, the Bobcats overpaid for a center who still hasn't panned out.

We paid **** for ****. I guess we have a warm body to get Center minutes. F
BigSlam wrote:4. Bobcats trade Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown for Vladimir Radmanovic. Analysis: Morrison, a former third overall pick, was a bust. Radmanovic was later packaged into the deal for Jackson.

Despite radmanovic's usefulness in the trade I wish we had Shannon Brown still. C+
BigSlam wrote:5. Bobcats trade Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler. Analysis: Okafor wasn't a good fit with Larry Brown and this reduced long-term payroll responsibility.

Larry Brown always says he wants centers who will block shots and blah blah blah, and that's what Okafor was. But I guess he knows his system better than I do. C
BigSlam wrote:6. Bobcats trade Radmanovic and Bell for Jackson and Acie Law. Analysis: They finally get a go-to scorer for an offensively limited roster.

This was the best trade in Bobcats history. Tons of upside, the only thing that could have made it better is if Jackson was younger. A+
BigSlam wrote:7. Bobcats trade a protected 2016 second-round pick for center Theo Ratliff. Analysis: Ratliff filled in as a starter in the late-season playoff run.

I can only hope we get a similar vet center trade going. B
BigSlam wrote:8. Bobcats trade Flip Murray, Law and a future first-round pick to Chicago for power forward Tyrus Thomas. Analysis: Thomas is an exceptional athlete, arguably the best in franchise history.

Tyrus Thomas is NOT Stromile Swift 2.0, and I think he'll prove that by the end of the season. A-

F. We might as well have kept Chandler and found a better trade partner. His contract expires the year after next or this year anyway. D

1. Bobcats trade rookie Kyle Weaver to Oklahoma City for a 2009 second-round pick. Analysis: The Bobcats used that pick to draft Derrick Brown, a definite keeper.

Honestly, who cares? Brown is an end-of-the-bench player, so is Weaver. Brown is better, I guess, but it's not like this has a serious impact on our fortunes. B? Whatever.

2. Bobcats trade Jason Richardson and Jared Dudley for Boris Diaw, Raja Bell and Sean Singletary. Analysis: Diaw and Bell both started immediately and Bell's expiring contract was key in later acquiring Stephen Jackson.

D+. Diaw is a long-term drag on our salary, Singletary sucked and never played, and while Bell was a big asset, he wasn't bigger than JRich and Dudley combined. I can never forgive this franchise for giving away the only good pick we've ever made.

3. Bobcats trade Matt Carroll and Ryan Hollins for Gana Diop. Analysis: Desperate for more shot-blocking, the Bobcats overpaid for a center who still hasn't panned out.

F---. Traded a prospect and a half-decent role player for an absolute albatross of a contract on a player who never plays.

4. Bobcats trade Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown for Vladimir Radmanovic. Analysis: Morrison, a former third overall pick, was a bust. Radmanovic was later packaged into the deal for Jackson.

F. This hurt us financially and we gave away a prospect, and Vlad sucked.

5. Bobcats trade Emeka Okafor for Tyson Chandler. Analysis: Okafor wasn't a good fit with Larry Brown and this reduced long-term payroll responsibility.

C. We traded away something for nothing, and it ended up doing nothing for us financially because we took back salary to get rid of Chandler. I will maintain to my dying day that this was not the best deal we could have gotten if finances were what we had in mind, and if play was what we had in mind it was a total bust.

6. Bobcats trade Radmanovic and Bell for Jackson and Acie Law. Analysis: They finally get a go-to scorer for an offensively limited roster.

B. From a basketball perspective, it was great, and propelled us to the playoffs. From a salary perspective, we locked ourselves into mediocrity for the next three seasons.

7. Bobcats trade a protected 2016 second-round pick for center Theo Ratliff. Analysis: Ratliff filled in as a starter in the late-season playoff run.

D. Ratliff played at barely over replacement level for 600 minutes. A bust of a 2nd rounder could provide us that, and there's always the chance for more.

8. Bobcats trade Flip Murray, Law and a future first-round pick to Chicago for power forward Tyrus Thomas. Analysis: Thomas is an exceptional athlete, arguably the best in franchise history.

B. Flip and Law suck, so it's really a first rounder for Thomas, and that's probably worthwhile.

F---. Hurts us long-term and gets rid of another prospect (bad as he may be) so MJ could save some cash right now.

About the Ratliff deal; remember that the pick is top-28 protected so unless we make the finals in 2016 (I believe that's the year), San Antonio isn't getting that pick. We essentially got Theo for nothing.

That Okafor-TC trade really looks like a total wash now.A lot of people got all giddy over it because of salary cap implications....whatever.We have now taken on more salary for players that will hardly,if ever, see the court.TC was never a better replacement than Okafor,it's not like Okafor's making an impression to make the all star team out West, but TC never out performed Okafor while he was here.
We could've made a better deal,but that's what we're all about aren't we,we coulda,shoulda,woulda......sorry.That's why we're the :lol:cats

Y'know what you're right, and I didn't notice "2016" either. It's a totally fine deal. Nothing to get psyched about, but it's not a bad thing.

The Theo trade can't be anything other than an A+. We got a serviceable player for absolutely nothing.

1- Kyle Weaver for Derrick Brown. Weaver was a camp invite with the Bulls who didn't make it, and Brown is on the Bobcats bench. Incomplete. How can you really grade a trade when the player you got hasn't done anything yet?

2- Richardson/Dudley for Diaw/Bell/Singletary. It helped short term, but doesn't Dudley seem like a player who would've flourished under Larry Brown? Jason Richardson is doing fairly good as well. C-

3- The Bobcats trade an inexpensive backup Center and Matt Carroll for an expensive backup center. Say what you want about Matts production before his Dallas rental, but getting Diop was a bad move. E

4- Ammo and Brown for Vlad. I don't view this one so poorly. Shannon wasn't getting playing time and Ammo was (is) a bust. Vlad gave the team some decent production after they got despite poor shooting. C

5- Okafor for Chandler. B Saved money, turns out Okafor isn't that special.

6- Vlad Rad and Bell get swapped out for Acie Law III and Stephen Jackson. Team trades two fill-ins for a guy who led the Bobcats to the playoffs. B+

7- Bobcats trade a probably not existent pick (see stipulations on pick) for Theo Ratliff, needing a Center. B If you get something basically for free...thats a good thing.

8 and 9 are too new
