the Felton fiasco should have Cats seriously evaluating mgmt

Post#1 » by fishmike » Thu Dec 9, 2010 6:15 pm

Sure MDA juices his PGs but Larry Brown kills them. Has anyone watched Felton lately? MDA has taken the leash off freeing this guy to attack, push and score at will. He's back to being the uptempo lighting quick PG that was drafted just behind Paul and Deron out of NC.

The fact that the Knicks got this guy for $7mm is insane. Ive watched every minute of his Knick games and I knew he was a good solid player. He's not, he's probably an all star and one of the better defensive players in the league.

Char is paying a lot of money to a lot of average players but they let the best one walk!

I'm happy it's working out for Felts - because it wasn't here and it wasn't going to.

The idea that Felton was the best bobcats is hilarious, and false.

I'm happy for him as well, it's not like I feel like we missed out on something, since he would never have played at this level with us, so good for him to get that kind of opportunity.

He would've never played at the level he's playing in NY here, which is a good thing. I saw a bit of the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter of the NY - Raps game yesterday and he just looked like a better player. He was aggressive in attack, his passing has improved, he's got more confidence, his jumper has improved. He's probably a splitting image of what DJ would be in a different system, as opposed to LB's poisonous BS here.

the problem with ray in charlotte comes down to the fact that we could have never signed ray for the same deal that the knicks got. if we wanted ray it was going to cost us 45+ mil over 6 years. considering ray had played for 3 different nba coaches (bickerstaff, vincent and brown) and had never shown the ability to play at a level above average you cant blame the current management for decided to let him walk.

there are 20 other decisions where you can look at our front office and really question whether or not they are brain dead, but i dont think this was one of them.

for anyone who ever read my dx profile on ray 6 years ago knows i said exactly this same thing, that ray would not reach his potential on any team, he would need a team suited towards his skillset. he finally found it.

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Ray ... port-2692/

What team/coach that drafts Felton will have a bigger impact on his success than the other top point guards in the draft. Felton needs to play for a coach that is willing to let him push the ball and play at the speeds he thrives at. In the right system, Felton can be the best point guard in the draft; in the wrong system Felton just might be average.

as for defense, ray has always been one of the best pg defenders in the league. he struggles with a few guys, mostly ubber quick guys like jennings, nelson, collison etc.. but overall is probably in the top 5 or 10 defenders in the league at his position.

I've watched almost every minute of Felton this season and he's been really good at times and at other times he's been mediocre. But mostly real good since the Knicks went on their winning streak. Last nights first half he was just dominant. However, we need to keep in mind that the knicks have had a very soft schedule which is about to get very difficult over the next month. So in about a month we will see just how good Raymond is with NY. Also, last season Raymond got worn down with all of those minutes (DJ sucked so we had no backup) and it remains to be seen just how well he will do later on this season where the pressure to perform in NY is only going to get much greater. I'm happy for him anyway.

Not to resign him was one of the few good decisions this FO has ever made

I'm glad he's gone

We were a fast-paced team in Felton's rookie season, when he played really well over the final three months. Now, five years later and back to the running game, it's really no surprise that he's playing like an All-Star.
Humble yourself.

Yup.

I've watched several Knicks games and he still makes the same bone headed turn overs that he made here, he still has the same suspect handle that he had here, he still can't run the P&R like he couldn't here.

The extra 4 or 5 shots a game he is getting in NYC sure is helping his stats - as is the fast pace.

In saying that, his tear drop has continued to really come along and much like most of last season, he's finishing better at the rim on layups than he did for his first 4+ years here.

End of the day though he is such a likeable kid and he tried, what was, his best for us while he was here - it was just that his best couldn't cut it so it's great to see him doing well now.

I don't mind that we let Felton go but I am a little annoyed that we haven't found an adequate replacement / spot starter and that we didn't even try to go after one in the offseason... I know some of y'all will say WHAT ABOUT DJ!?

But to be honest... As much as I want to like him, I'm not sold on the young fella :-/

I am happy with DJ. Just need a new coach that cares about offense.

I was sad to see him go but it was the right move. Certainly not a fiasco. Glad he's doing well. I don't see him as an all-star though.

And while I still don't understand the DJ lovefest over here, he's playing well and will hopefully get the support of his teammates at some point. It is most certainly a problem when the team captains don't have his back. Hopefully that changes over time.

The 4 playoff games didn't make his career, but he was horrible.

Likewise, these 20 games won't make his career, but he's been solid.

To this point, his career has consisted of 6 decent years, wavering between mediocre and solid. Time will tell, but I predict he regresses to his normal self, a guy who is a solid defender (but was torched in the 4 most important games of his career to date), a streaky shooter, and prone to awful turnovers at bad times, and spectacular plays out of nowhere.
