Talking about it on BCP also. Have not seen it myself. If we are trying, then bye bye Crash. I am all for getting Melo if we can sign him to an extension. Then build around him. He is what this team needs - a bona fide superstar. If this happens, it will drown out the Cliff Lee signing in baseball when he gets off his ass and decides whose money he will take. Melo a Bobcat? That would be so cool. Maybe we can put LB in as part of the deal to Denver!

"That's where he wants to be, not Jersey. But Michael Jordan is pushing to get him, too, and save the Bobcats' season," a league source with knowledge of the trade discussions told ESPN.com Friday night.

But for the Bobcats and other teams that Anthony would not be willing to sign a long-term extension with, the acquisition would likely turn into what amounts to a half-season rental before Anthony bolts as a free agent.

Right now, I think I would be fine with Wallace for Melo even if there is no extension. I think there is a chance that Melo would resign with us, because of MJ. And if he doesn't, we could try and do a sign and trade this summer. Worst case, we get him for half a year, bring a ton of fans in, get past the first round in the playoffs, and then gain a ton of cap space in the off season. Problem is, we would have to involve more than just Wallace...who else could we include?

If we could clear out some dead contracts and acquire an un-extended Melo then I would do it. It would be worth it just to have a half season with a legit super star then all the cap space next summer.

It would essentially boil down to a blow up with benefits (assuming Melo could get us to the playoffs again).

This would be a terrible move unless we get something out of it besides Melo for a half season. And I do not trust Michael Jordan to rebuild this franchise.

Saw it on the ESPN scroll across the bottom of the screen. At least it seems more possible than before. Can MJ talk Melo into an extension? That would be awesome! Change the name to the Charlotte Carmelos if we have to in order to get him to sign.

Typical Bobcats - Mortgaging their future to swing for the fences.

I can just see us selling the farm with something absurd like wallace and our next decade's worth of firsts for a half season carmelo rental.

At least when melo walks for nothing at the end of the season, Charlotte will have cleared salary and gained a TPE from Anthony walking.

I'd prefer copious amounts of cap space than draft picks.

Well if we trade Wallace and get oodles of cap space next year and a half year Melo rental i'm all for it. Anything else is a bonus.

Looks like this could be something that goes down in a couple days. In this scenario we would give up wallace and Diaw. So we clear two contracts off the books even if Melo walks. We also give Thomas his starting gig. If Melo does walk, we have tons of cap space to use on our rebuilding process and free agents. If we ever want to be more than a 8th seed we need to take chacnes and rebuild. This is a great way to do both at once.

DJ
Jackson
Melo
Thomas
Nazr

I love that lineup. Bench is the only question mark along with Nazr, obviously. Liv/Hendo/Brown or McGuire/?/Brown are going to have to hold it down. We would need a back-up 4. Maybe Najera coudl fill in though i doubt it.

OK i don't care this team is going nowhere. I want Melo RIGHT NOW. Even if this doesn't play out, it's more fun than actually watching our team play right now. Go get Melo MJ MAKE IT HAPPEN, even for half a year. Getting Melo alone would bring back my excitement i once had for this team last season.
If MJ has enough PULL to get Melo to agree to an extension, that would be HISTORY right there.

Then change the name back to the Hornets and we're ready to roll.

Just doing a bit of brainstorming.

If we did trade for Melo, could we then trade him at the deadline to NYK and make them take all our bad contracts? Maybe get Chandler/Gallo back in return.

Thats some tasty tankin.

Knicks would probably be happy to sit and wait though

Hmmmmmmm, something just hit me.

MJ wants Melo for three reasons:

#1: To put bums in seats while he is here, win some games and maybe even help us make a playoff push - but I think the motive is actually bigger.

#2: MJ wants him here because then MJ can move him to the NYK at the trade deadline for all sorts of goodies which has a double benefit.

#3a: We get prospects and picks to start the rebuild

#3b (and this is the main reason): MJ gets his Team Jordan boy in the Big Apple for maximum exposure for his brand.

This could be a brilliant move by MJ.
Super star for the Bobcats - check
Instant future cap space - check
Pieces to rebuild for the future - check
Team Jordan guy in the Big Apple - check

Then when his other Team Jordan guy (CP3) ends up there in 2 years time with Melo - Jackpot for Team Jordan.

Brilliant.
