this is one of the things i remember specifically about silas. he used to get on the hornets for passing up open shots. he got on jr reid and chucky brown that first year he took over. they were passing up open baseline jumpers. silas made them shoot when they were open and both guys responded nicely. if i remember correctly, chucky brown had a great run after silas took over.
"He was free," said forward Gerald Wallace, who watched from the bench with an ankle injury. "He looked like a little kid at the park, just out there playing ball. When he's aggressive, when he's looking for his shot, it makes things a whole lot easier for all of us."
t's not Silas' intent to make Augustin into Felton, who now plays for the New York Knicks. It's Silas' plan to build up Augustin's faith by letting him be what he is.
"Raymond wasn't nearly the shooter this kid is, but he was stronger and more vocal," Silas said. "At the end of the day, you've got to (accept) they're two different people.
"He's a great shooter - not just good, a great shooter. ...If you have confidence in yourself and know your coach has confidence in you - that's two important things."
"We just tried to run the offense before. Now we run an offense and at the same time we're free to shoot open shots. It's OK to miss and to make shots."

Jesus christ, it's like they interviewed Slam, asked him what he thought augustin needed, and did it.

I think he needs to be allowed to run the offense more by using his creativity and PG skills and also run the P&R more than he has been allowed to more than he needs to be allowed to shoot.

DJ should be shooting every time he has an open shot, it's the one thing he does well. Now can he be a leader and RUN a team, that is the million dollar question my friends.

Battery I cannot say that I expected that from you.... However what you are saying makes sense, if you have a guy with sub-par passing skills but great shooting skills dont make him pass the F*cking ball, let him shoot the dam thing and run the plays through a better passer ie Boris Diaw....

absolutely shoot the ball. honestly it wouldnt bother me if dj was our team's leading scorer. run plays to get him open looks. he is our best shooter by a mile.

I'd take it a bit farther even to say that the majority of the other guys we have arent great or good shooters, that is why we wish to acquire a guy like Mayo, who can shoot and can join DJ in the med-long range parts of the game.... Currently DJ is virtually our only good shooter who is starting.... We need to grab another good shooter like that of Mayo, TWill, or some guy in the draft (Alec Burks, Terrence Jones (he has a good mid game), or ect)

I'm up for the team to nab OJ Mayo. Both Augustin and Mayo can compliment each other since both can spot up and shoot as well as distribute.

He'd be the best starting shooter on most teams, I'd wager. Jack can shoot and so can Boris, but they can't make them as well as DJ. I'd love to see DJ get to 18-22 PPG. He has the tools to do so on this team, he's the closest thing to floor spacing we have.

problem is, i'm not sure dj has the scoring mentality to put up that many shots, even though he could shot a lot more and still get them in the flow of the offense. he wants to defer so much.

We'd have 3 distributors if Diaw was still around. Assuming Jax is gone they're also our three best shooters. I guess they can pass to each other

That was a HUGE problem with LB's slow arse 1960's offense. There wasn't nearly enough shots to go around.

DJ's defense is really showing up as a problem under Sials. It's killing the team. Even when his man isn't scoring directly DJ's causing the team defense to have to scramble to cover for him usually leading to some other opponent taking an open shot.
His shot is looking amazing. He's running the team well. He does a good job bring the ball up the court and keeping his dribble under pressure. Those areas look amazing under Sials.
The D though ... it's a big problem.

Maybe I'm wrong but actually from my point of view his D-fence is getting stronger, its just when the kid is tired it really shows, I believe that if we were to delegate more minuetes to another good PG then he would be fine. Now realize that I'm not saying that he is a great Defender or even a good enough one.....

My impression is that he cheats off his man too much when they don't have the ball. The other team usually ends up figuring this out over the course of the game and starts to take advantage of it. DJ also seems to get burned by the faster guards. He seems a step slower which is why his cheating hurts him so much. He's not fast enough to recover.

Well quick guards are going to blow by just about anybody because contact is not allowed. He should put up more of a fight though.

Name 5 guards in the league faster than DJ. It's not the speed or the quickness, it seems like it could be the footwork. That's something he can improve on.
