A ruptured Achilles tendon can mean a year or more off the court!!
Do we get any sort of insurance kick back or are we screwed?
(P.S. Had to clean up your post cb.)

If the injury is covered by insurance then it might actually be easier to get him traded to some teams .... like the Clips for instance.

Except that the insurance would only last this season and then they would be on the hook for the rest of his contract.

This is neither here nor there since there's probably not a shot in hell anyone would touch that contract and, even if the stars did allign, any team acquiring him in a trade would from us would be doing it for salary reasons, not for Diop's basketball prowess (i.e. if we insisted on his inclusion in a Gerald Wallace deal or our FO sends him out for part of a greater deal where we end up with a contract that is even worse.)

The really sad part is now Gana is done, we are really lacking in the big man dept as we are only left with Nazzy and Kwame - and two C's aren't enough.

I think it is around 8 month recovery time...I do not know how it is with insurance, I know after player miss 41 consecutive games, from 42 game on his contract is covered by insurance, I think it is 80% but Im not sure.
...................
Found some article about that:
http://ns1.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91909Every team in the NBA and NHL, under terms of their respective Collective Bargaining Agreements, must take out temporary and total disability insurance on its top five salaried players each season.
Insurance steps in to pay after a covered marquee player misses at least 41 NBA regular-season or 30 NHL regular-season games due to a single injury.
Hmm, Diop Contract is CHA 6th highest, so it looks that means he is not insured? But reading the article it looks like 5 highest payed players MUST be insured and other can be if club decides.
Talking about Diop and trading him... this injury could be good for new team because Im sure teams could get some money out of insurance at least for his last 2 years if he would be injured.

This is really sad. I was just complaining about our injuries and now this? I feel like the Blazers without all the talent

At least we're no worse off than they are for it.

"If there's any consolation to the franchise, it's now likely disability insurance would cover a large portion of Diop's $6.48 million salary" -- Rick Bonnell
We are likely to get a roster sport and injury excemption, like Miami got with Haslem. So all in all, this could help us. With the money MJ saves on not having to pay Diops salary, he can afford to spend a little extra to try and get a player with that exception we are likely to get from the NBA. Not sure who we coudl get, or how much the exceptio could be worth, but this could help. Sad to see Doip go down when he is playing his best and really was interesting to watch. Luckily for us though, Kwame was on the bench and he had actually been playing really well. I thought he should had gotten some playing time to begin with, so i'm glad for Kwame and we could get roster spot and money. Lets see what happens with this.

I hope they sign another big. Tyrus gets great minutes at center, but he's really not that thick. He's gonna get tired or injured banging with buys like Big Z.

Jarron Collins just got let go by the Clips. Tough to find a big body like that at this point in the season. Jump on it, and he's insurance and 6 fouls.

Trade Tank for Dexter Pittman.
Dexter Pittman has something no other Bobcats big man has ever had and something we need.

This sucks! Just when he's playing a bit decent lately. Now we're down with Kwame and Nazr. Though we can't rely too much on Nazr because of his age.

I can't believe some of you actually feel like this has much of an impact. Can someone show me Diop's stats since he's been on this team?
