CHA-ORL Trade

I was hawking Jax & to some degree Diaw on the Jazz,Magic & trade boards & Orlando seemed very interested in getting rid of Arenas(I wonder Why?) I hit them back with this, what do you think? I'm interested in opinions, is their enough value for each side? Would we do it?

Charlotte trades: Diaw,Jax,Diop,Cunningham,Livingston & a 2nd round draft pick
Charlotte Receives: Arenas,Bass,Clark & Orton

Orlando Trades: Arenas,Bass,Clark & Orton
Orlando Receives: Diaw,Jax,Diop,Cunningham,Livingston & a 2nd round draft pick

Why for Orlando?
You guys take on 2 bad (shorter)contracts for your mammoth 1,
Jax will replace Richardson,
Diop can play backup center in limited minutes for Dwight,
Diaw is an upgrade at the 4 in terms of offensive & defensive skills,
Bball IQ & versatility & will play very well with Turkoglu & their rebounding
weakness will be covered by Dwight.
Nelson,Livingston & Duhon are a strong PG unit,
Livingston adds versatility & a dangerous mid range game,
Cunninghams game will fit with Dwight aswell.
He has a dangerous mid range jumper aswell.

Why for Charlotte?
We take on a massive koncack with Arenas but his game will fit with our team,
Silas encourages our players to shoot & I believe he needs a coach that will
give him offensive freedom to gain his confidence which will hopefully raise
is production to a decent level (16,4 & 6) is his contract worth that? hell no
but at least he will be able to play with either Augustin or Henderson on
the court at the same time. The 3 of them would be a good rotation with
Arenas getting to play his preferred gunner/chucker combo guard role again.

Bass is a proven competent player in the L, He will be a good backup for Tyrus Thomas & DJ white would get minutes too thus giving us a strong rotation at the 4 aswell.

Clark & Orton are young, have potential & fill positions of need for us.
I know you magic fans are high on them but this is a good opportunity to
reak down Arenas' contract, improve your team(I believe you guys are gonna
win the chip next year if you do this) & shed salary over time.

I already told you that you're nuts if you think we would take Arenas and his contract

No way. Areanas is no where near what he used to be esp for his contract.

It's not horrible because I like Clark and Bass...and I was a proponent of taking Arenas from WAS for the last year since it was apparent they were desperate and it was clear the Bobs were going to give this whole making the most out of the current team thing a go. He would have fit well.

But not anymore. Too risky to take his contract.

Well, you guys know I love Gilly...

Fact: He comes here and regains his pre-Wild West Washington form.

Drop our second round pick and change Orton with Ryan Anderson. It's still a huge risk to take on his contract but it also makes one hell of an expiring in a few years if he doesn't pan out. I'm not really concerned with the cap space because a marquee free agent will not sign here. If Gilbert recovers (with 40mpg and being "the guy", I think he will), Agent Zero will be legit again.

Did I mention that I love Gilly?

I'm with Jaruff on this one, I think Gilbert could be a factor on this team & his Salary doesn't scare me, we've got to make the minimum team salary somehow. He will produce with minutes & confidence.

Countryboi, you don't think this is not blowing the team up?

DJ/Arenas
Arenas/Henderson/draft pick(SG-SF)
Clark/TT/draft pick(SG-SF)
TT/Bass/draft pick(PF-C)
Brown/Orton/draft pick(PF-C)

This team is very young but is better than what we have at the moment in terms of talent & potential. I would rather have Orton than Anderson on our team. I think Orton will be a starting Center in the L in about 3 years. He would fit with our team well.

While I wouldn't want him as a talent (and wouldn't want him taking Henderson's minutes), I may do that trade just because we can use the early termination clause in his contract after next season to immediately clear about 20m off our cap.

On the other hand, if we could trade Diaw and Jackson for something more useful than just cap space (prospects or draft picks), I would probably prefer to do that. Otherwise, switching out longer-term contracts for Arenas's contract and terminating it early would be better for the team's payroll.

People forget how great he was before the injury. He was worth $20m back then.

People forget how great Grant Hill was pre-injury...doesn't matter unless we switched into an alternate reality where he was never injured. Arenas, for whatever reason, is a shell of a his former self, and is lucky to be valued at 1/3rd of his current contract. I still might entertain the idea of trading for him given the salary implications, but he could probably go back to putting up 22ppg and I'd still terminate his contract early.

Yeah, that knee injury doomed his career. Kind of like Livingston's except Liv never got the contract before it happened. Ironically, wasn't both of those knee injuries against the Bobcats?

I think Gilbert is what you see today, I don't know that he can return to form.
